​@@Bl4CKDevil5it's exaggerated, but don't underestimate blades. A regular European dagger can take off a hand or cut deep into a skull! A sword emphasising the cut can take off the entire leg, open the torso, or decapitate a horse! A few cases occurred where an entire torso was split horizontally! If you watch test cut videos you can see multiple tatami or pig carcasses be cut inne swing!

Its actually quite symbolic how olmar couldnt cut his head completely off. Even after thorgil told olmar to imagine the moment he cuts off his head. It shows both their resolve when it comes to taking another persons life

That was one of my favorite episodes of Vinland Saga. Really shows how in the old times men would duel over insults to their honor. And Thorgil is a good older brother. I love how he didn't interfere with the duel til after it was over and the other guys tried to kill Olmar. I wish we got to see more of Thorgil. That man is very interesting and unpredictable.

he's not psychopath, he is just a viking and that's how they thought and they culture was like, this is why he was happy when canute tried to kill them, because he knew canute was the strongest opponent in the world and he wanted to prove himself in battle killing the most important man alive. In fact, in that situation, he was the most racional one, that guys and specially canute and his closest warrior (forgot his name), who did a trap to take his father's farm were the real psychopath

He's definitely in the top 10. Top 4 I'm not so sure about. If we're talking combat strength I'd say Thorfinn could beat him given that he managed to beat Thorkell and hold off Snake with just his fists (plus he hit him multiple times, which means if he had daggers he would have won the fight multiple times over), Prime Askeladd could probably beat him, Thorkell could definitely beat him and Thors was by and far the strongest man to ever fight in VS so he could definitely beat him.

​@@thehorse5307 Snake basically let Thorfinn hit him because he wasn't really worried about an unarmed (he's not actually expecting Thorfinn to put up much of a fight to say the least). Had Thorfinn actually had his daggers on him, Snake is going to be much more cautious (also the ways Thorfinn actually landed hits wouldn't be lethal at all), we should also assume that if Thorfinn has his daggers, Snake has a shield (because that's pretty much his fighting style) at which point the advantage is moot. Thorfinn at that time is about on the same level as Snake (who is also rusty just like Thorfinn) so the Thorgil obviously isn't on the same level as Thorkell or Thors (who are both absolute monsters, they never seem to have actually fought and Thors basically sucker punched him while drunk), but given that Snake trained him, he's probably around that level. He'd be a difficult fight for Thorfinn anyway, and Askeladd would most likely win (in his prime, as an older man has would be harder) because he's very intelligent and tactical, he doesn't fight head on if he doesn't have to, and would probably just find a way to get an opening. Even Thorfinn now would have a hard time with Askeladd, he was nearly as fast as Snake (who's probably the fastest fighter we've seen bar Thorfinn himself) but was also both strong and very intelligent. Thors was also incredibly intelligent, but he tended to just use his insane Given the top 4 (in no particular order) are Thorkell, Thorfinn (at the end of the series), Thors, and likely Askeladd, he's probably not in there, but he'd probably come in just behind as Snake (who could also be in the top 4 depending on how you look at it).

This scene shows us a two different types of people. One who think they can fight in a war ( Ketil, Olmar) and the other are those battle-hardened people who have seen its horrors with their eyes but still go and cut down their enemies no matter who opposes them. Tbh, I think majority of the audience comes under the first type since we have always glorified wars and fight. Now that I think about it, its almost crazy people liked S1 more than S2 cuz of the irony that they watch this show which is about non-violence for more violence.
