One of the contributing factors that we commonly see as a problem in performance horses is NEGATIVE PLANTAR ANGLES, which can result in CAUDAL HEEL FAILURE! In this video Lee Olsen CJF explains how we fix this problem and help these horses get to feeling 100% again!

I applaud your knowledge and contribution to helping horses. However, I believe most all performance horses need a break to heal, with shoes off, and the the ability to roam a pasture to regain their natural health again. Most feet and leg (and other issues) are caused by the owners need to compete. It's quite sad for the horses.

Not all horseshoers use what we call "hot fitting", which is when the shoe is placed and basically burns onto the hoof, making it lay flat and balanced! We hot fit the majority of the horses we shoe!

I leave my horse bare foot. However, he has a good sliding stop that I don't ask for while not riding in an arena with good dirt. My thoughts are, it wouldn't be good idea to do it on, let's say, a sandy two track while trail riding. Your thoughts? Thanks

@olsenequinecjf
@olsenequinecjf 11 ай бұрын
So the blue material in the video is Mustads Soft Cushion ComfortMix! It is a dental impression that hardens when the 2 ingredients are combined. It works similar to an insole of a shoe, yes, supporting the hoof while providing some cushioning!

@cattymajiv Hello Narb!! I love it when you say hello!! All the mares are doing well, they are getting nice and fat and still sassy. Fat as in pregnant fat, not overweight fat. I'm very careful with their dietary needs. They are on a grain for pregnant and lactating mares, a little red cell, to keep their blood levels up, some spirea for coat and hoof health and some salt and trace minerals. Other than that, free choice hay of good quality, it's an alfalfa grass mix and they just love it!! I hope you are doing well, and please, always feel free to say hello!! Love Jenn 💖

Great, informative video. I am an old fart now and sad to say, the closest I have ever got to learning something about horse hooves was when I was a little fart. I went across the road that separated my grand parents farm from the one across the road. I went over there for the purpose of riding my friends horse and dang it she didn’t step on my big toe and she didn’t push worth a darn. But I did learn to 1. Don’t ride horses bare foot and 2. Watch where you put your foot cause the horse don’t give a rat’s ass where she put’s her’s! I should have just stayed at my Grandma’s and rode the pigs, they were easier to push around and they fit in our chutes. My cousin and I were in hog heaven, literally, when we rode our rough stock.

Wait what did you just say this horse with conformation problem surgeries and more is being used as a barrel horse. This is the problem with equestrians today they have zero common sense and zero knowledge of the animal called the horse. it is just f**ked up. In fact, I think now his health issues are not conformation I am looking at him, he has great conformation. He is probably being abused and misused in barrel racing. No in fact I know he is. The fact that he has a spine problem and they are still barrel-racing him tells me all I need to know. No, I am not some kind of activist. I love horses. then they are great animals and humans should and can use them for work and ride them. However, I completely believe in doing what is best for the animal sense we are taking control of its life and death. If they made up some rules that stopped people from riding like animals and abusing the horse in barrel racing I would be fine with it. But that is not the case. One good rule could be the human's feet can not lift off the side of the horse more than 2 inches. Another good rule could be the Butt of the human must stay in contact with the saddle at all times. Oh, and no Leverage bits barrel racers are literally hanging on the horse's fact. I don't have a problem with leverage bit just a problem with abusing the animal with them. Show me one barrel racer that is not pulling 50lb or more on the horse's face. 50lbs is not hard to pull, so the bit is putting 250lbs. My seven-year-old daughter can pull 50lbs using reins. So my number might be a little off but you get the point. I can there guy how to help this horse. Embarrass the owner for barrel racing a horse with health issues like this. If every professional they had to work with scolded them for the abuse they would stop.
