Oltl was in a bad slide after jfp wrecked the show. She was doing the producing & all the writing in 99 & that was absolutely the worst year they had after their last golden age of 92 to 95. 96 to 97 were very uneven years but had its mommys. Jfp got rid of Dorian & made her a baby killer running her car into a very pregnant Jessica. Roger howarth walked again due to hating the writing. Most of the wonderful malone/Gottlieb characters were gone & the rappaport/Davidson invasion was in full swing. I hated ben & " blondie " & I never accepted Ben conveniently as asa's son. Max's character was irrelevant after luna died but he was so sleazy & had zero morals by 99/00 when he was scamming asa which a " max is asas " son was badly done b4 by the max replacement but he was not in on it. Max was moved his mistress in while blair just took it & lost her spine completely. Things just got worse & worse from 00 to 02 but scenes like this w/ two old pros & veterans made the show worth it at times. I always felt asa 's golden son was bo. I saw a clip from asa's very early start & he told a story to viki how he & clint were so tight that asa smothered him & clint left for 18 years. What's interesting is asa said " bo was the younger boy & glued to his mama's hip. He just wanted to be w/ his mother all the time & I was always w/ clint. That's how it happens I guess w/ 2 boys. " so i wonder if asa once clint left latched hard onto bo & had to work harder for bo's affections. It does not surprise me bo was a mamas boy & was probably not feeling asas domineering chauvinistic side & his mom was probably warmer. I'm amazed how well that old description asa have always stayed w/ the characters. Watching a lot of the 80s & 90s seemed when clint left for all those years asa was just a tad more invested in bo. I also think their relationship was ruined from asa having that secret about getting clints son out of his life. I also think bo was such a straight arrow & the least Buchanan of the men in terms of how he treated women as equals while bo asa & even cord could be so domineering over their ladies. An example would be how crappy Clint & asa treated tina in the 80s til she gave birth to the little buchanans. That's the only time they layed off Tina a bit but still would insult her or not have any patience for her. Asa mostly. Hed call her a witch a tramp a ding bat etc. Bo was the only one who treated Tina like a human being. I also think bo was so good that asa was always trying to prove himself to bo & bo was less inclined to take asas crap. Also he loved bo's wives so much more than he ever cared for viki. I dont think he really cared for her & once viki left clint asa would unload on her or about her telling her she was stuck up he didnt ever care for her high minded attitude. When todd showed up at asas to talk about blair asa was giddy saying " I would have given anything to see viki w/ her nose in the air find out her brother was a murdering rapist " their was another scene w/ Karen Witter as Tina in 93 where asa unloaded on her & viki calling them both " tramps liars & these lord sisters ruined my family marrying my boys " things got at their worst when asa said at the lodge that todd & viki both come from " stock that eat their young " viki" how dare u say that !!!" Viki really had hatred in her eyes for asa calling out basically how viki was sexually abused & todd given away so she was appalled plus this was when viki was so mama bear over todd & just learned asa was framing todd. Viki also foiled asa's plan w/ max to wack todd w/ a paddle by screaming out for todd to look out. After that asa really had no use for vikis sons anymore raised & adopted by clint since they were toddlers. I remember he was asking nora to give him a grandkid after drew died & she said " asa u have plenty cord kevin Joey Jessica . He said cord wasnt " raised on the farm " meaning not raised a Buchanan nice huh ?" Kevin & joey arent blood ( I found that messed up as clint raised those kids from practically birth now b/c they werent blood so we know how asa really felt about them. Plus he hated their mom viki. & " I love that jesse but shes a girl " nice misogyny. Edward q was like that too. Tracey the daughter was just as fierce at buisness but b/c she was not male he looked to Alan & than Alan's line if male heirs. He never cared about traceys kids who were boys b/c they were not males w,t the last name q. Plus alan originally had 2 boys & than aj had Micheal so he kept going to Alan's male heirs. Anyway something about these old school alpha males w/ such misogynist attitudes. I'm sure he was not happy cj was not last named Robert's which was asas doing.
