If the Army or the Navy ever gaze on Heaven's scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines who turn-to for Sunset Parade conducted by Col. Tru Crawford and Commandant's Own "celestial alumni." Never forgotten.

I own and play one of these surplus Kansdul "Custom Classic" baritones, engraved "The Commandant's Own." I will never sell it.

Kanstul is now part of the Conn-Selmer (King) Instrument Company. When I first heard this version of John Williams Olympic Fanfare I loved it.

I simply love this arrangement. Haven't been able to get it out of my head since I first came across this clip! What a gas!

If the "1986" date in the video description is accurate, I saw them about a year earlier, July 1985, at the Drum Corps Grand Prix at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford NJ ... about a week after returning from boot camp at Parris Island SC ... First time that I had to stand at attention for the Marines Hymn in public ... my wife's best friend, who was there with us, nudged my wife, and asked "What is he doing?" 😉 At that time, the Marines still had drum corps in 29 Palms CA and Albany GA as well ... shame that those two units were converted to bands, leaving "The Commandant's Own" as sole survivors ... The first time I saw this corps was in Madison, WI as the exhibition corps after an MBA event there. Amazing how powerful their relatively simple show was. Simply amazing! I see them whenever I can!

Now, this is giving the 3rd Infantry a run for the medals! OLYMPIC FANFARE AND THEME (John Williams) Warner-Tamerlane Pub. Corp., BMI was originally purpose-composed for the Games of the XXIII. Olympiad, Los Angeles, CA, USA, around a philharmonic orchestra and trumpets.

@ThisgirlfromVA - Your Dad was definitely in there. He was a real mentor, and an overall great guy to the younger Marines.

I wouldn't pay a dime to watch DCI band/corps anymore, but I'd pay $100 to watch any drum corps play like THIS.

amazing ! ! ! it's really nice knowing our musicians are also soldiers. After all they have the same boot camp, I am guessing ?

This was the level of magnificence that used to be associated with this ensemble. Since the passing of Colonel Crawford the Corps has yet to attain this level ever again. "American music played with American "Excellence"!

Matched grip snares are awesome. If your goal is to have an even sound from both hands, it is illogical to achieve it using an asymmetrical grip. I'm shocked drummers can still argue against this.
