i can't believe i finally found a video of Ambassador "The dapple grey horse with the silver tail"! I saw him in Washington DC live competing against Idle Dice either in 1977 or 78 I think not sure, but i fell in love with him then. Idle Dice (a magnificent horse) beat him that day but Ambassador won my heart! Its the only time i've ever seen famous olympic horses in person.

Hallo Equine Dreams. I am back for round 2. I lost my love of show jumping but This Year 2018. I'm Back!. My brother has a 7 stable yard and we going in partnership in a very young show jumper. My only brother "Can Ride". Never did I see brother miss into a fence. A 1992 Irish Olympic Ride said about My Brother "He could have made it!" Well you cab Ride show jumpers upto your 70's. "Ian Miller (CAN) best example Great Great rider Ian Miller ( BIG BEN twice WORLD CUP CHAMPION ( Belgian bred "gaint" of a horse, dark chestnut). I used to own a very good Irish Sport Horse. Who nearly was the first ISH to claim a Young Horse Worldchampionsip. But R.G.B. was going too fast. Brother had broke him in and got 4 pts and I gave him in March 2000 to L.C.C. who put another 36 pts on C.S. then just 6 short but hard work months later 6th at 2000 Y.H.W.C. (Laneken). Then S.McI. went to 1.40m to 1.50m on C.S. Special horse. Archie was my version of Jappeloup. But he had to go. There is always another one :-)

Thank you John for correcting me, I couldn't remember what I read 15 years ago, I was quessing but I remember it was Stradbally. Well Mr Tom Clancy will go down in Irish history as "so far" the only breeder to bred an individual Olympic Show Jumping Gold medalist. sláinte!

Forgot to ask - how old was ambassador here (in 1972?)? He was still dapple grey when i saw him but not this dark, though there was still a very noticeable contrast with that gorgeous tail of his. He must have been pretty young in this competition unless he was very late greying into white. (did he ever turn all white?)

Hallo, Ambassador was 8 years old when he won the Olympic Gold Medal in '72.

Thankyou, so he was probably around 11 or 13 when I saw him in DC. I can't remember what year but I know it was after 1976 and not later than '78 :) Thanks. I still feel privileged to have gotten to see both him and Idle Dice compete in person. :)

Hi again. yes I've read about " IDLE DICE " & R.J. (a great partnership). USA had Great show jumping Bred ex-race horses. "Snowbound" & "W.S.". they won 1968 Olympic Gold (Individual), in Mexico City at "Altitude" not sea level! "1984 Olympic both Gold's (Ind. & Team), TOUCH OF CLASS". That Los Angles Olympics really got me hooked on Show Jumping I was a very young teenager. Joe Fargis & Touch Of Class
