Panji Rizki Maulana He talked about his branch affiliations and first instructors a few years back on his blog. It was a lesser-known branch of karate he named, something other than Shito Ryu. Of course, Jesse's gleaned and adopted things from so many masters over the years, he tends to just say he's a karateka.

"Ezpaña!" hahaha. We don't say that everywhere. The "official" way (although I don't really like much these considerations) is with an "S". But yes, in some areas of Spain they pronounce the S like a soft Z. But very good try, honestly! About the noun "Valencia", when you go to Velancia you'll listen both ways depending on if they speak Spanish (with the sound like Z) or Valencian (which is a dialect of Catalan; another latin lenguage; from the same roots than Spanish) (with the sound similar but not exactly the same than S, kind of like in between). If you speak French is more similar than the sound "ç". Good job! :-)

you will always take a few hits, its not very painful. youll take less hits once youre more skilled with footwork and defense, youll take less hits if you strike more often than your opponent. receiving and controlling pain is a part of the karate lifestyle, its really not that much pain, its mostly the fear of damage or pain that makes people freak out. just think about it like this, its all essentially a fun game of tag. and there shouldnt be any negativity between you and your buddies at the dojo, so when sparring youre all just having fun learning real life kata applications together.

Great video! I love your love for karate! People take this sport for the wrong reasons sometimes! Many, myself included, want to be the best and that's not the right reason to train in any martial art. It's so futile to even attempt to get within a stone's throw of being the best. I witnessed the man taught by Gichin Funakoshi and Masatoshi Nakayama himself and who taught all the legendary masters at the famous instructor academy in Tokyo do 1 move in 4 years I trained at his dojo so I speak from experience. Enjoy the journey and just focus on learning for yourself and becoming a better person and a better karateka! I wish I had much worse technique and had enjoyed karate more!

Great spirit and good work. However, I dont think that judges would agree, but in my humble opinion, this kata should be performed as it is presented to Okinawa by chinese merchant Go Kenki (Wu Xian Hui):as a white crane style kata, one of four white crane katas imported in shito ryu. It should be performed with a mind of a crane instead of a tiger.
