The Olympic village looks so great! The way they put each country's flag on the balcony is so amazing!! It just makes me happy seeing the people all around the world are at the same place. That's just beautiful

I'm a Japanese. Thank you for coming to Japan in a difficult situation. We don't get much information about the Olympic Village in the media, so I was happy to see it in the video like this. I had 6 tickets for the Olympics my kids bought them for me for Christmas 18 months ago. I was so excited. Obviously I cannot go. I’m heartbroken for Japan, the athletes and spectators. I will visit Japan when I’m allowed to.

@@aassaasslamas4932 World Cup is next year. I assume you mean Euros. The reason is because the Olympics is in Japan and their covid rules are really strict. If the Olympics were in England or somewhere else it would be much better.

Agreed - it is absolutely heartbreaking seeing the empty bleachers and stadiums. It is certainly difficult for the athletes without the fans, but it is a huge financial nightmare for Japan who are doing their best. We are cheering everyone on from each and every country, from Canada! Please get your vaccines folks ... the technology was primitive for smallpox, polio and rabies compared to now but they have been pretty much eradicated. Gee whiz, if this was rabies we would all get ourselves and our animals vaccinated ... what's the difference? Enjoy the games friends --- if we don't get COVID under control there won't be 2022 Winter games or 2024 Paris games. Let's do this!!!

As a Japanese, it was quite sad to see the empty opening ceremony because of the lack of budget… BUT I am happy to see that Japan built the cool and clean village for the athletes which is very important so that you guys can play the best!!!

hi! i'm japanse student. we are sad too.😱 I'm sorry we couldn't show you the wonderful ceremony. but Japanese were also expecting a ceremony like Mario Abe. we really wanted to give hospitality for foreign athletes. we are so regrettable. but I am very grateful to the athletes for their wonderful performances and their support around the world. In China, some media reports of corruption in Japan's preparations for the Games have contributed to the shortfall. It also mentioned the death of the minister of Accounting. So I want to ask are these reports really true?

Really makes you wonder of what their life is life. I mean between having a source of money when you soley focus on sports (I assume they dont have typical jobs, wouldn't be sensical), and just a lot of other things.

Charlie I'm not much into sports, but I know that Epke Zonderland, who got major achievements some Summer Olympics back, also worked (and still works, I believe) at a hospital.

@@Charlie-hv3dh I think that depends on the sport and country… I know most of the German gymnasts for example are either studying in university or “work” for the police or military (which is usually just some workshops while being supported for the sport). But a lot of them also have day to day jobs (Kim Bui does cancerresearch at a lab). So it depends on the financial support they get from the country and if they can afford to not work…

@@plexphobic Tom said they have to leave within 48 hours after finishing their competition. Normally athletes would stay and attend other events to support their teams but because of COVID they can’t.

There are literally so many criticisms around holding the olympics at this stage of COVID here in Japan, especially in Tokyo. But watching this video made it a bit easier for me to welcome the guests. Gotta stay safe mates!

Watched Rhys' vlogs (Irish Olympic gymnast) and Tom's, and as a Japanese, it changes my inner priority from just shitting on the government to at least providing the best we can to the athletes. The money spent is lost, and this is certainly going to go down history as one of the financially worst Olympics, but I'm just hoping that the athletes feel like they are given the best stage to perform their best. I was supposed to be a volunteer (and I still really really really want to), but after the postponement my plans couldn't match up anymore :(

Congrats on the gold! The apartment looks nice. They most probably already have owners which is why Japan can't afford to delay the olympics any longer. Despite a lot of setbacks, i think they're handling it like a champ. 👍

I think it's a great idea, only idiots would criticize it. Why waste all of those resources and all that money on something that's really just temporary? It makes complete sense for them to be cardboard, they're durable for the duration and produce far less waste.

Donno fake or real news, the cardboard bed cost is much more expensive than normal wooden frame. No matter what, hope all players are safe and healthy.

As a Japanese, was really bummed after reading that their had been complaints about the Olympic village facilities being “medieval” (from the Russian quarters). VERY relieved to see you guys seem happy with the facilities. It’s a challenging year for both host and attendants, but I hope those who took part are well taken care of! Thanks for the great video!!

don't worry, people complain all the damn time. I'm brazilian and I remember the media talking about zyka virus, our facilities/village and causing unnecessary fear. But overall Rio 2016 ended up being a sucess and people loved it (from what I've seen). I'm sure Japan will do their best and it will also be sucessful. There are not many places that could pull this through specially during these times, but Tokyo sure is one of them! You guys are always civic, prepared and polite. I wish you amazing Games, from one host to the other. Love Japan! 🇧🇷❤️🇯🇵

The opening ceremony for Tokyo Olympics is good? Seriously? Should watch The Beijing Olympics and London Olympics opening ceremony, that is what we call an epic. (no offense but is true when you compare both performances)

To be honest, they were not really given a choice. The Japanese population was largely against the games going ahead because the pandemic is picking up speed again but the IOC insisted on the games taking place.

the atmosphere of 2012 Olympic was simply the best ever, even achieved the full house attendance in the Paralympic. However to think of one country still able to hold a great event in such condition no doubt that would be Japan

All countries with nuclear power plants around the world release tritium into the sea. Japan is approaching the half-life of tritium and plans to release it into the sea two years later. The village looks so nice, it's too bad you (understandably) can't mingle with athletes from other countries. The original plan for the opening ceremony also looked amazing, what a pity they had to cancel everything. I went to Japan a few years ago on holiday, it was such an amazing trip, can't wait for the day i'll be able to visit it again and explore more of the country.
