One thing about Yamaguchi (this is a general thing, not a spoiler about Yachi): in one of the manga bonus chapters Takeda makes a comment that out of all the team Yamaguchi is the one who will have the least trouble finding a girlfriend. Probably because he's got good emotional intelligence, doesn't only care about volleyball and isn't a sarcastic jerk.

Fun trivia! When they started recording season 2, the voice actress for Yachi was actually her age and also still a freshman in high school. That's why her acting is just incredibly believable and adorable! Interestingly, while she's the youngest in the main cast she started voice acting at a very early age, so she's technically a sempai for most of the cast :)

What Yachi says about feeling as if she'd been in direct sunlight is also connected to the meaning of Hinata, or rather the kanji used for his surname, which can also mean sunshine or the place in the sun. By the way, the kanji used for his name (the Sho part) instead can also mean flying. Kageyama is related to the shadows (Kage), Tsukishima to the Moon (Tsuki) ...

Some translations of the scene have Yachi describing the moment as "feels like I'm wilting" in reference to her name meaning Marshland Flower. The female managers in Haikyuu have names that invoke images of the land and the sea symbolizing the grounded safety of familiarity meanwhile the boys playing often have heaven facing names that refence the sun/moon/stars highlighting their pursuit of greatness.

The buddhist faces of Nishinoya and Tanaka are so goated, the best way to save yourself from problems is to pray to god and my men wasted no time to did it lol and the fact that Yachi is scared of coach Ukai for having blonde hair (one of the reasons) tho she herself have blonde hair cracks me up.
@Artistely6 ай бұрын
Hahahah there is a reason she got to that conclusion tho 😂 Yachi is ofc naturally blonde so there is nothing strange in that but Ukai is evidently bleach and blonde. In Japanese school that is absolutely not permitted, it carries bad reputation, so if you see that appearance people think that they are propably delinquents 😂

22:30 As a former Lifeguard/Swim Coach, I know exactly what you mean. That analogy does have a second meaning. Hinata’s name itself is related to the Sun (the show makes it explicit a little later, but the original audience likely already knew. Kageyama is Shadow related and Tsukishima is moon related) so her feeling like hanging out with Hinata is like standing in direct sunlight is also a pun of sorts.

Your comments reminded me of two short stories from the Haikyuu CDs. They're only sound (translated on KZbin), there's a few of them about silly moments in different teams, like celebrating Christmas or the reason Kenma died his hair. First when you said you'd choose Kageyama over Hinata I thought about the short story where Hinata hears two girls from school talking about how handsome Kageyama is and then goes out of his way to prove to them that Kageyama is not cool at all. Then when you talked about Kiyoko, Noya and Tanaka, this reminded me of the story where Hinata and Tanaka are trying to figure out why Noya doesn't have a girlfriend. They ask all the guys on the team and make a list but can't seem to figure it out. At the end they ask Kiyoko why, in her opinion, Noya doesn't have a girlfriend and she says it's probably because he's short lol.

Ahhhh this video was sooooo good. Apparently the when pronouncing Hinata in Japanese the spelling can be interpreted to be a name or even the sun, hence the "I've been in the sun too long" line. Tsukishimas name can also can also be interpreted as the moon depending on the writing, a really neat metaphor between the 2 middle blockers being the sun and moon. Oh and at the Tokyo camp there is gonna be A LOT of new characters, some more important than others. Don't stress about trying to remember them all since it literally wont matter, just focus on the ones you like :)
@yuanyuan8505102 жыл бұрын
Since there’re two “suns” in Hinata Shoyo’s name (both “hi日” and “yo陽” mean “sun”), the direct sunlight is the best analogy ever☀️ Btw, “kage影“ of Kageyama means “shadow”, so these two just always offset each other and be together, I think that’s really adorable🌑 And also, “tsuki月“ of Tsukishima means “moon”, so he and Hinata are like opposite but shine in different ways🌙
@spinelessnerd78682 жыл бұрын
every single character in Haikyuu is so precious. They all are so realistic and have their own individuality even after having things in common. And it's really good to think about how we as people of our own individuality might agree with one character's thought process and not connect with other's. But that doesn't stops us from seeing those character's perspective and understanding each of them equally. I love Haikyuu because it can bring out this important trait of ours in light.

Great reaction as usual! Adding my support as usual & dropping my personal opinions about some of the iffy translations as usual: 18:17 「お母さんがデザインの会社やってて」➔ "My mom works at a design firm" should be more like "My mom runs a design firm". The way they phrased it makes it seem like she's just an employee but「やる」= "to do/run", so it's obvious that she is 1 of the higher ups if not the owner of the firm. 20:16 「ワクワクする!ゾクゾクする!」➔ "It's exciting! It's nerve-racking!" I guess this translation is OK, but "nerve-racking" has a negative feel when 「ゾクゾク」in this case is describing a sense of elation caused by anticipation & joy, not dread from fear. So something more like "It's exciting! It's thrilling!" might've been better.

@@SarahPavanVolleyball about the anime or the ice skating scene? Yuri on ice is a beautiful anime (short, just 12 episodes) that focuses on a main character who is a late bloomer, close to the end of his career. It's different from Haikyuu in that it goes both into the competitive aspect, and the personal relationships and wishes of the characters. Since this is ice skating, a performance discipline, there is also a beautiful and super interesting exploration of artistry vs technique, and how they portray emotion through their dance, and where they find the inspiration/source for these emotions. The secondary character, our protagonist's coach and a bit of a free spirit, is one of my favourite characters in anime. From my side, totally recommend.

In 8:25, Tsukishima calls Hinata a "simpleton", which originally is 単細胞, meaning "single-cell organism". Lmao my boy with the salt-shaker 🤣 Also, in Japanese, "can jump" and "can fly" are both pronounced as "toberu". So in this scene in 19:56, Hinata might only mean "I can jump really high", but to Yachi, it sounds like "I can fly"; so it can be understood both ways.
@SarahPavanVolleyball2 жыл бұрын
Oh I love that!
@hachi14042 жыл бұрын
Well..actually "can fly"=飛べる, "can jump"=跳べる, and both are pronounced as "to-be-ru". I also guess that Hinata meant "I can jump(跳べる) high" in the conversation with Yachi based on the situation. However, "can fly(飛べる)" might also work as Karasuno's banner shows "FLY(飛べ; to-be)" 😉💞 BTW, Hinata's first name is "Shoyo" as you know, and written as 翔陽, meaning like "flying freely in sunshine". Anyway, I am so surprised that many people here are so good at Japanese, and it makes me so happy! I should study English more to write comment since I am so poor at writing. In high schools in Japan, the test scores held several times a year accounts for the main percentage of grades, so if the test score is bad, you can't advance or graduate. And the criteria for poor test scores is determined to be less than 40 points uniformly, and it is judged that it is difficult to advance if it is less than 40 points. Therefore, the teachers will try to impose supplementary lessons and assignments on the target students to advance to the class. I don't know exactly why it's less than 40 points, but if you're studying the test, it's because even if you're not good at it, you can get 60 to 70 points.

Your empathy and attention to the characters and the story while watching this show is just incredible! 11:17 - yes, they are so cute, I really love the Hinata&Kenma friendship 13:24 - HOW? You're amazing! I noticed Yamaguchi's liking just only after it was pointed out to me. Then I noticed this scene and many other small moments. And in some of the colored pages of the manga, Yamaguchi looks at Yachi and blushes😁 13:46 - Asahi just has curly hair, he didn't get a haircut and didn't do a perm, but just pulled his hair tight into a hairstyle in the first season)) 16:27 - In Japanese schools, classes are indicated by two digits. The first indicates the year of study, the second indicates the class number, the larger the class number, the higher the level there. Students can move from class to another class every year (?) depending on the test results. Classes 4, 5 and above are specialized, they are usually preparing for college or university. For example, Suga studies well and is going to enroll (he studies in the profile 3-4 class), and Asahi said that he is not going anywhere after graduation, so he can stay in the club without any problems (he studies in the 3-3 class). Among the second-year students, Chikara (class 2-4) becomes mentor of Tanaka and Nishinoya. Therefore, Yamaguchi (he and Tsukishima study in class 1-4) suggests Hinata and Kageyama (study in classes 1-1 and 1-2, respectively) to contact Yachi, who studies in class 1-5. 25:30 - I have a feeling that Furudate-sensei trolled readers and viewers by using classic shojo scenes (romantic manga for girls) - like the one with the ball, for example - in the interaction of Hinata and Yachi😂 26:09 - the friendship of Shimizu and Yachi is really precious🥺 Furudate-sensei gave Yachi the name associated with the plant (Hitoka -仁花 - Compassion Flower), because there is water 水 in the name Kyoko (清水 - pure water) I say so often that I love friendship in haikyuu, but I can't help it, because everyone is unique, I love all of them so much🧡 And the fact that you love them makes me love you. Waiting for your reactions!

Yachi is pronounced "Yah chee(se)", so you got that right. In Japanese they attach honorifics to the end of people's names to indicate the relationship between the speaker and the listener (sometimes to show respect, sometimes to show intimacy). The -san suffix is the most generic formal honorific (similar to our Mr. / Mrs titles) used commonly between strangers and various other formal scenarios. Instead of calling her Yachi-san, the ch and s sounds are both soft so they get combined into one syllable. Thus Hinata calls her Yassan with 4 syllables: Ya, [empty], sa, n. Taiko is traditional Japanese drumming style, usually performed at festivals. It's really fun to hear.
@bdylp10982 жыл бұрын
I don't think Hinata calls Yachi "Yasssan" (at least not in this ep). Because of your comment, I went back & listened to Hinata calling Yachi during this ep, & even at 1.5 speed, I can clearly hear him saying "Yachi-san". Perhaps he starts calling her "Yassan" later (?) & you thought he already started doing so here, or you're having trouble picking up the "chi" because Hinata pronounces the "san" part with a emphasized high squeal (& as a result, the "chi" part gets very accelerated/shortened)?
@vdinh1432 жыл бұрын
@@bdylp1098 I'm probably mistaken, but the fact that they sound similarly enough to be mistaken is the reason why this practice is done in the first place I think 😗
@bdylp10982 жыл бұрын
@@vdinh143 Hope you don't take this the wrong way because I have no intention of criticizing you or anything, but ”Yachi-san" & "Yassan" don't sound alike at all (Though I'm aware that non-Japanese speakers have a hard time picking up the staccato caused by the little「ツ」, try listening to 谷地さん&ヤッさん using pronunciation apps or something. ). Not only that, "Yassan" has a very "older man" feel to it, so I doubt someone like Hinata would call a young girl he just met that way.

Don't expect a lot of romance, but the shipping is fun. I like the idea of Hinata and Yachi. Also yes, as much as we love our boys, some of them are absolutely academically dense 😂

Academically dense? LOL Never heard of that one before, That's a good way to put it tho.

I love every single video here and your reactions are the best. And I think yamaguchi does low key have a crush on Yachi but I also low key think Yachi has a crush on Kiyoko so… who knows♥️

@Ervin Yukihira I mean, you're right in that that was what I _used_ to think it was, but we were both wrong 😂😂

Taiko are traditional Japanese drums. They can be super massive and need a lot of effort to get the proper sound.

11:24 I think that's a somewhat common thing for shorter youths to do. I was around Hinata's size when I was his age, and did the same thing because otherwise I would be sitting uncomfortably low at my desk.

21:05 the second way is the correct way to pronounce Yachi’s name. And, yes, she’s amazing.

Your reactions are so honest, just discovered your channel the other day and watching the reaction videos refreshes me up! You should react to other animes as well!

11:23 I sit like that on a swivel chair :3 it adds height when a chair cant boost you up any further. when my legs get numb i get a chonky pillow. hinata is taller than me so I imagine his chair must be old that the boost doesnt work anymore or his table is just too high

4:10 answer your question. It(“quizzes”) means “mini exam” that is often done by teachers and the full score is about 30〜50,but it depends on the subject and the classroom. However, Hinata hasn’t take double digits ever that means he’s not good at studying (T-T) And, “Akaten” means falling a subject by getting about 0〜39/100 on finals(exam).

When a show throws you new characters left and right, it's best not to try so hard to remember their names because you'll naturally remember the ones that are interesting and important as the story progresses anyways.

LOL, @16:40 this is the second time you have tried to hook Yamaguchi with the cute girl. I'm not against it 😂

The Yachi being exposed to sun analogy is even better since hinata's has the word sun in it (in japanese)
