I still cant believe the Olympic committee wanted to remove wrestling from the Olympics. That is just crazy.

@Savage Cabbage so competitive sports like hockey and basketball stay then... In the history of hockey 10 unique teams have won gold. Canada has won 9 of 24 gold medals in the history of hockey at the Olympics. Basketball it's worse. Out of 19 basketball tournaments at the Olympic games the US has won 15 of them. The Soviet Union 2 Argentina 1 and Yugoslavia 1. The first win by the Soviets was massively controversial and many say the US should have a 16th. Table tennis is routinly swept by the Chinese who have won 28 out of 32 medals. Meanwhile in wrestling 39 different countries have won gold. Yeah wrestling is the non competitive one dominated by 1 team.

Question for wrestlers: wrestlers make great MMA fighters; is the sport of olympic wrestling loosing some of its best wrestlers to the sport of MMA? Like insight on the issue.
@thumperplatz7649
@thumperplatz7649 8 жыл бұрын
Wow, I always thought that Olympic wrestling was king. I didn't realize that WWE Wrestling is considered to be the absolute pinnacle of the sport. I just spoke to two former Olympic wrestlers and they suggested that WWE wrestlers, for the most part, are the greatest athletes in the world. Apparently, this is quite obvious to some but I was a bit surprised when the US Olympic Committee for wrestling voted not to allow WWE wrestlers the opportunity for tryouts as "they would dominate our wrestlers and that's not good for the sport" according to USA Wrestling President James Ravannack. Ravannack goes on to say "the fact that our wrestlers dress up in those silly onesies surely doesn't help matters." Gee whiz, who knew?!

+Bronze_Lion Anyone who has ever attended a WWE Wrestling event absolutely agrees with my comment. While their athleticism is impressive, it is their complete command of wrestling that makes WWE wrestlers the pinnacle of the sport. Take Kurt Angle, for instance, he will tell you that Olympic Wrestling, while fun, is a stepping stone to the professional ranks.

+Cero Ashura NOT at all. I read this in WIN magazine, I believe. The cream really does rise to the top. Just watch a couple of minutes of WWE or other top tier professional wrestling federation matches and you will be convinced. Are a few of the moves fake, absolutely, but the majority is top notch wrestling at it highest level. Plus, they don't wear tight, silly little outfits like this video shows.
