What people need to realise too is that she's not beating cannon fodder here. The top 7 times in this race are all TOP level world class swims. Women's distance freestyle is actually quite deep at present, even without Ledecky this was a SCORCHING race, remember other than Ledecky, even including super suit swims barely a dozen or more girls have ever broken 8:20. So the fact she is dismantling such class athletes is even more impressive than it looks.

Watching this again 4 years later and still amazing to see. The close up during the race looks like a boat in the water. Amazing anaerobic capacity and flawless technique.

In the next Olympic Games( 2020 ) she will get to swim the 1500 meters as well as the 400, and 800. It will be interesting to see how she does then.

What amazes me is how little they're kicking like the announcers are like "she's sprinting up to take the lead" and she makes it look absolutely effortless it's amazing.

To be able to average 1 minute hundreds for that distance. I've been crossing the local river this summer, about 300 meters each way. That'd be like 6 minutes work for her. Real Life Wonder Woman!
