Nabieva and Huang Qiushuang had built-in execution errors keeping their scores lower than Komova, and Youna Dufournet never hit her incredible set in UB final...

It honestly trips me out that this was just the normal way of bars! I was a gymnast for years and the idea of doing any low-high/high-low transitions or any giants or attempting dismounts building momentum in a contained area just makes me nervous! I guess that’s what makes them so amazing though!

Svetlana Khorkina was always such a joy to watch. Her legs looked 8 feet long, even tho she was only 5'5". Her lines were gorgeous, and she had such a graceful spirit. I was an American kid who avidly rooted for her and her amazing talent.

It has everything: very difficult and crisp pirouettes, high flying release ( LO Jaeger), spectacular releases combo (Li Ya + jaeger), release + transition combo ( Tkachev + Pak), and a good dismount connected from a super difficult pirouette (1 1/2 one-arm pirouette + double tuck 1/1). All we could ask more is a shaposh 1/2 after the Pak to get the ultimate routine. Girl earned her 2 Olympic golds (team+UB) fair and square.

I so love Ma Yanhong routine! I think it is very underrated.. She had such clean lines, amplitude, i love her, she was amazing, extremely clean! I love seeing so many icons! So many generations! I love Mustafina, and her gold in 2012 was a moment! She barely could walk months before... I just realized, only Khorki and Musty have been able to win back to back, wow.

But given the time is so less and she had been out of training for more than a year she'll probably have to be racing against time to get in shape and get all her skills back.

He KeXin= A LEGEND. Absolutely magnificent and faultless. Technically so precise that, it should literally be the tutorial... hands down THE BEST uneven bars routine EVER. ( In my opinion, she had more difficulty and style than nastia, didn't really understand the "tie" in 2008, although He Kexin did get the gold! ^^)

Several things come to mind watching this: 1) I'm so glad the bars are further apart and young ladies aren't slamming their still developing bodies against them anymore. 2) the CoP has destroyed any creativity in UB routines. No unique mounts, as they're not worth the risk. No clever bar switches- paks and van leeuweens all day every day. 3)the Chinese and Russians are truly something special with bar work. 4) Daniela Silivas was a BEAST. EDIT: The Divine Khorkina. 5 foot 6 and moving like a 4 foot 11 gymnast. 😍

Of these, Ma Yanhong and he Kexin were the most thrilling to watch. Know Khorkina is the gymnast many love to hate, but she did have the most wonderful extension and elegance. I was present in 2012 and not overwhelmed by Aliya Mustafina's routine - then came the utter brilliance of that dismount which got me to my feet in applause. Still love it today.

When she accepts her 2000 gold medal and flowers, she moves like an actress accepting an award: she doesn't wait for the handshake and kiss; she initiates it. Almost as if she's saying; "thank you dear Sir you are most kind. Now, move along and get out of my light!" Edit: You KNOW she said "Spasiba" for effect when she stuck that landing, for effect. Back to back Olympic medalists on bars on this list: Khorkina (gold, gold), Mustafina (gold, gold), He (gold, silver). It still gives me a sense relief thinking how He Kexin won her "solo" well deserved gold in 2008.

The 80s routines are crazy 😲 some of the moves look like it would hurt, but it still looks very good when they perform 😄

I miss the early days of gymnastics. So much flexibility. Now I just watch everyone do the same routine over and over.

There are only so many things you can do on UB After a while, the possibilities run out to get the high DV. Do you remember that worlds where almost every routine was the same and there was a 4way tie? Even the gymnasts laughed it off. Agree with you on the old days! Not just the flexibility but also, the emphasis on form! The positions in the air where so clean and there was room for a bit of 'flair' and so many more stuck landings, too.

have you seen nina derwael on bars? her entire routine takes like only 30 seconds because she connects all of her skills one after another, not even a giant before the dismount. now thats unique.

Don't get the hype. She looks heavy. Lacks grace. Still Comenaci or Kurbot or Svetlana. Even He is better 😜

The first two were surprising to me since I there were a few elements that aren't used in today's choreographies anymore (don't know the english term for that)

Your English is excellent! What you said was right- certain skills from the 60s/70s/80s are now banned. The bars are also further apart as well, so certain skills aren't possible.

Just wonderful to watch He Kexin mind blowing routine, so amazing. Mustafina's and Svetlana Khorkina effortless grace, both ladies won the event twice. Svetlana Khorkina was considered too tall, she was 5.5, yet she conquered the Bars. To see Mustafina's womanly body do all the moves - beautiful.

I cringe seeing them do bars without grips, especially some of the crazy release moves and combinations! My hands would rip in every routine!

Should’ve included Nastia Liukin even though she got silver it was the same score as first place. :( I don’t get it if it’s a tie in other sport like swimming then both people are given the same medal. Why can’t gymnastics be like that!?

I think they compare the difficulty score to see who’s is high and then award that one the medal
