Despite the magnificant skills of the players, being able to control the ball seemingly at will, you can easily appreciate how far the game has developed in recent years to make it more flowing and entertaining not only for the spectators but players as well. The stop/start whistle blowing of then has thankfully gone. Full marks to the FIH in adapting the rules over the years to make the game what it is today. Unhappily some 50 years too late for me!

That's just not true bro. The other nations ultimately developed their skills , caught up with India and after some years they mastered the modernday free flowing hockey. It happens in all sports . Same thing happened to USA in Basket ball when Europeans and Argentinians reached the level of USA basket ball team, In Football South Americans became better than Europeans. In Athletics, Cricket , Swimming , Tennis , Badminton and many Sports other teams progress and catch up. Even in indoor games like Chess Soviet players ruled the chess world for half a century but now it's entirely different you can't find a Russian world champion.

This was the last Hockey medal India won in continuity since 1928. After missing a medal in 1976 india won Gold in Moscow 1980 but in 1980 most European and American block boycotted Olympics so it was a very depleted field.

A lot of people are crying about missing grass turf . It was not even closely beautifull then as it is now . Half of the easy tackles indians missed . There is almost zero passing. Today hockey is much more beautiful and tough in the same place . And it was boring too in the grass turf .
