The announcer keeps degrading the athletes! Like “he’s not in good shape” or “the good ones will break 10.” They’re all in excellent shape and they’re all excellent; they’re Olympic athletes!

The last three athletes all got 2:30 which I think was the maximum time penalty you could get regardless of points. So theoretically if you were brilliant at this one event, shooting and running couldn't you just enter, lose fencing, showjumping and swimming and then take a 2:30 disadvantage. Fastest 3k ever is 7:24, add on 45 seconds for shooting, you might have been able to win this event by being awful at everything else.
@mantasvilunas26363 жыл бұрын
no you couldn't,new rules were made for the combined,you can't win if you had a disaster in the howjumping and are stuck in the back

Pentathlon would be better if this final sport was longer. That’s really not that far of a run.

They combined the points from the earlier events (fencing, swimming, and horseback riding) and had faster starting times for people who had the most points.
@abdulharistmuqorrobin76476 жыл бұрын
That's actually fair considering their starting position were based on their score from the first 3 sports. If they all started at the same time, then what's the point of the first 3 sports?
@insertcolorherehawk37615 жыл бұрын
@@abdulharistmuqorrobin7647 The scores would matter the same, if someone with a low score score completed the combined section much faster than the leader, then it makes sense that you would score more points than the leader, it shouldn't be a race for medals for the final segment, it should just be a race to see the possible scores earned(see the Athletics Decathlon)

What everyone else said is true. It’s do it this way so that the winner crosses the finish like first.
@brandonking17374 жыл бұрын
@@insertcolorherehawk3761 I feel like that is less fair, as the staggered starts makes it very obvious to athletes how far ahead or behind they are. A mass start means that an athlete cannot judge their pacing against other competetitors.

Start time is based on the score that each athlete has collected over the course of the competition until the start of the combined event

But then what would be the point in the other 3 sports lol 😂
@insertcolorherehawk37615 жыл бұрын
@@elm2908 The points earned would be used for the ranking, the combined should score for both shooting (timing and accuracy) *and* the 4000/3200m(time), instead of awarding the medal for the first at the line, but since tradition is the leader of the race wins, well...
