I was very lucky to have been able to see the Olympic Flame in '96 passing through N. Georgia. I was 11 years old. Something that I will never forget. Very lucky to have been able to experience the centennial games in my hometown.

I wasn't alive then but my parents told me the thrill of seeing the torch come through our small little town seeing Georgia being a place for the world to unite

Being in Atlanta throughout the time the Games were awarded through the time of those Games, one memory I have is seeing the Olympic Torch first enter the city proper (literally standing at the city boundary as it passed. Not only did I get to see events throughout those 17 days, my schnauzer then also was with me for a few outside events that went through my neighbor. Wonderful treasured memories of a lifetime.

I seriously don’t understand the hate that these games get. Yes, the logistics, specifically the transportation could have been better, but no one can deny the magical moments and success of the events themselves. Atlanta did a fine job

Michael Johnson and his brothers and sisters, (all 5 graduated from college and were successful) shows its not about being black or not being rich, it's about having a mother and a FATHER who actually care about and are there for their children.

First of all winning the Olympic 200M or going to college requires more than having a father, a lot of people have those. It requires natural talent, hard work and dedication. Plenty of athletes with single mothers have succeeded in sports and in life. And normal people. But this 'no fathers' trope is little more than a stereotype that is blaming people for the extra burdens they have to carry in life. If you want to pretend there are no racial or cultural hurdles in the US or the world, you are only lying to yourself.

@@jelliott8424 Yes, but there are too many single parent (mother in most cases being the sole carer) families, and this has been proven to not be conducive to a healthy upbringing. Black families used to be the strongest two parent family units, this changed in the 70s and with the introduction of welfare support for single parent families it just got worse and worse, you can now see the impact of this breakdown of the family unit in today's society, especially possibly in men, and black men more than most.

My favourite story at these Olympics was not mentioned. Australian distance swimmer Kieran Perkins won his second consecutive gold medal in the men's 1500m freestyle (the first ever swimmer to win two gold medals in a row in this event after breaking the world record and easily winning the gold in Barcelona) and in Atlanta Perkins would swim from lane 8 that will go down in history as the greatest performance by any male swimmer in Atlanta. I don't care what any of you say. He had a very tough year leading up to the 1996 Olympics. After the 1994 world championships, Perkins was in perfect form, and after that he lost his stroke rhythm, timing on his tumble turns and momentum during his training and it affected his performance at the Olympic trials in Sydney where he scraped into the team finishing second to Daniel Kawalski who beat Perkins at trials. During the heats of the 1500m freestyle Perkins had more problems finishing 2nd during the second heat and just scaped into the final qualifying in lane 8. And in the final Kieran Perkins proved the doubters wrong by using lane 8 as an escape to completely swim away from the field and that strategy worked for Kieran and that would help him win the 1500m freestyle and ultimately the gold medal becoming the first ever swimmer to win back-to-back gold medals in the men's 1500m freestyle at consecutive Olympics. Grant Hackett would also do the same thing by winning this event at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.

Wow! I just can’t believe that Team GB 🇬🇧 only won one gold medal 🥇 at this Olympics! Great documentary even though women’s gymnastics 🤸🏾‍♀️ were left out.

The disaster of Atlanta finally made the government sit up and start to take sport seriously... and twenty years later, GB went from 36th in the medal table to second behind only the USA... We will win our 1,000th Olympic medal at the Paris games.

I really like the way many of the most interesting and accomplished athletes and their families are spotlighted. It adds a dimension to sport that is not often seen. It also shows how so many hard, long years of overcoming setbacks and disappointments finally were rewarded. Thankfully, the times when these deserving athletes are forced to live in near-poverty to remain eligible are past.

+Hannah Aldrich Highlights for me of Atlanta 1996 in the Olympics include Michael Johnson's 200/400m double and Carl Lewis back to his best form in the long jump. Kenny Harrison defeated world record holder Jonathan Edwards in the triple jump. Edwards of course made amends in Sydney four years later. Sally Gunnell's injury and two full starts by Linford Christie (nowadays it is one full start and you are disqualified) sums up Great Britain's disappointment. Steve Redgrave was probably his ray of hope for his country in rowing. Games also notable for a bomb attack I think.

+Hannah Aldrich I can not think of a country that will host the Olympics on more than one occasion. Twelve years between Los Angeles 1984 and Atlanta 1996 seems pretty short. In the World Cup, Mexico hosted it in 1970 and again sixteen years later, 1986.

Rex Brown After 2020 Olympic bidding reforms, the only US cities that will be prepared to host an Olympics are New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. The IOC wants cities to bid that have minimal costs associated with building venues. Boston will never bid again after the Boston 2024 fiasco, where the citizens of Boston rebelled against hosting the games. All the other cities don’t have the venues needed to host without building new ones or won’t want to host. Salt Lake City is the only US city that is equipped to host another winter games. Times have changed. The IOC wants affordable, sustainable games.

Where was the 100m final? This is almost always the or one of the most watched events throughout olympic history. A world record was broken. How on earth could that not make this film. That was also the entire heat had a star studded cast. There was huge drama involving a false start. That is the most historic 100m final in olympic history and why is it not here? Is it because an American didn't medal? This is why people try to find other non american outlets to watch international events.

+DeeTee221 of Course that is why they spent oodles of time on the womans 4x100 and virtually non on Mens 100 and absolute zero on mens 4x100.. Canada (Donovan Bailey) Won the 100m (broke World Record doing it) and anchored the 4x100 - (would have broken record there too but coasted 30 m out) those two events blow away anything else. first time US did not win a medal in the mens 4x100 when they actually finished. In addition, because of Donovon Bailey winning and breaking record for 100m Johnson the 200 and 400m winner was trying to call HIMSELF the fastest man on the planet even though it was always understood it is the 100m winner. Bailey was pretty pissed at this and they eventually decided on a 150m race in Skydome Stadium (now Rogers Stadium) where Bailey blew him away before Johnson faked an injury after Bailey had passded him. At the end of the day its a US production so they can do what they want but pretty lame if you ask me.

Some facts of these Games. - John Williams composed the main theme for these Games, being his second work for the Olympics. - Countries that were part of the USSR competed independently by its first time (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia by its second time). One of those countries was Georgia, that have the same name of the US state where Atlanta is located. Because of this, the Georgian athletes were applauded by the audience. - Since the football (soccer) inclusion as an Olympic sport, Atlanta's Olympic Stadium is the only one that has never hosted any football (soccer) match. - Men's football final match took place in... Athens. Obviously not the very well known Greek city, but a not so well known American one.

1948 was filmed in 35mm celluloid. Filmstock has amazing details and dynamic range that can be extracted from high resolution scanning up to 8K. Post 1970 due to television transmission, video tape cameras that have standard definition or SD by default. Back then, 360p was the highest video resolution on those tapes, compared to 480p or 576p resolution that existed during the 90s and early 2000s. Video tape cannot be scanned. It can be interpolated or upscaled to 1080p on video editing software but the quality doesn't improve. Digital video cameras are now able to shoot on 720p, 1080p, 1440p and 2160p and the broadcast happens in FHD. Hope this was helpful.

He is Will Lyman and he is excellent. The narrator on most of the Bud Greenspan Olympiad Videos was David Perry, his brother. Sadly he died in 91 so Lyman took over. Nothing against him, on the contrary he is outstanding, but David Perry is to Olympic videos what John Facenda was to the NFL.

I grew up in south jersey idolizing Carl Lewis. I was fortunate enough to be invited to Jesse Owens invitational, where I won a bronze medal. Pretty cool hearing Carl tell his story about Jesse Owens, knowing I had a similar story to a 9 time Olympic champion and my idol growing up. If only I didn’t let my highschool track coach get to me, which ultimately made me quit, who knows what I could have accomplished. One of the biggest regrets of my life. Especially when I look back at all the awards I still have from the AAU junior Olympics, and various other track events I competed in

Roger Black is a cool guy. He always had a good attitude about coming in second to Michael Johnson. And Michael Johnson blames him for making him cry on the podium. He was trying to stay focused and pysche himself up for the 200 meter in a few days. Black told him to savor the moment and he broke.
