It looks so hard to pass people in this sport. Everyone is so bunched up one tiny mistake and you can run into someone. Really precise moves and a lot more strategy involved than people think.

1000 M Men Quarters 2:47 Heat 1 Start List 3:47 Heat 1 6:26 Heat 2 Start List 7:47 Heat 2 (Lee Jung-Su) 8:33 Restart Heat 2 11:24 Heat 3 (Sung Si-Bak) 14:45 Heat 4 (Lee Ho-Suk) [Lee Ho-Suk's trademark last to first outside pass wins another heat] 18:46 Quarters --> Semis 1000 M Men Semis 21:20 Heat 1 Start List 21:50 Heat 1 (Lee Jung-Su, Lee Ho-Suk) [USA's J.R. Celski and Canada's F. Hamelin take the lead while the Koreans wait in the back to unleash their kick. Lee Jung-Su, in third, probed for an opening for over 2 laps but is walled off by Celski. Lee Ho-Suk, in last, accelerates around the corner and blows past the pack with a gorgeous triple inside pass at 24:53 to win the heat. Celski and F. Hamelin, fighting for second place, race to the corner and bump when Celski stumbles, causing F. Hamelin to fall. Lee Jung-Su takes advantage of the confusion to double inside pass the N. Americans and take second at 25:01. Celski was given a penalty and F. Hamelin advanced, yet another inexplicable penalty benefitting Canada. Celski had completed his pass and a stumble is a race accident, no penalty was the correct call] 27:02 Heat 2 Start List 27:18 Heat 2 (Sung Si-Bak) 29:22 Restart Heat 2 [Sung Si-Bak takes the lead by first inside passing China's Han Jialiang, then Canada's C. Hamelin. Han is late to cutoff Sung Si-Bak's inside pass, and bounces off the Korean. USA's A. Ohno takes advantage by inside passing Han to take third. Once Sung takes the lead, he pushes the pace to defend against passes. C. Hamelin inside passes Sung to take the lead in spite of the pace, and Ohno double inside passes both C. Hamelin and Sung to take first at the finish, with C. Hamelin barely holding off Sung for second] 33:23 Semis --> Finals 1000 M Men Finals 35:30 Final B (Sung Si-Bak) [In 2 man Final B, China's Han Jialiang wins when Korea's Sung Si-Bak is given a penalty, which appears to be an outside to inside lane change causing contact at 38:58] 40:00 Final A Start List 41:57 Final A Introductions 44:43 Final A (Lee Ho-Suk, Lee Jung-Su) [The race starts as expected with Canada's Hamelins taking the lead, Korea's Lees lurking at the back, and USA's Ohno in the middle. Ohno inside passes his way to second breaking up Canada's Hamelin wall. As soon as they see that Ohno has breached the wall, the Koreans jump the outcourse and take off at 47:13. Ohno doesn't want the Koreans to board the outcourse train and immediately after completing his pass, he shifts right to block, abandoning the incourse. F. Hamelin takes advantage of the opened incourse to inside pass Ohno. The Koreans just go further wide and avoid Ohno's block and take the lead. Now in last, Ohno jumps the outcourse following the Koreans and all three pass the Hamelins. Lee Jung-Su inside passes Lee Ho-Suk to win gold, Lee Ho-Suk silver, and Ohno bronze] 51:52 Medal Ceremony

Noh, due to cancer, Kwak, due to injury, and Lee for changing his main participating sports to speed skating. they will all come back at 2018, plus some new players will be added. and Ahn Hyun-Soo(I still admire him) will ritire.. we will wipe 8 gold medals total like Netherlands did in 2014 Sochi speed skating

The J.R. Celski dsq was kind of a wrong call. Just saying that the Canadian touched him first throwing Celski off balance which in turn threw the Canadian off his skates. Celski isn't my favorite but I'm all about being fair to all the racers.

j adams I might not see this correctly but around 24:25 it looks like Celski's turn slowed them both, and because Celski's turn was too sharp, his back and Hamelin's chest touched, and Hamelin held onto his waist to keep control, Hamelin bumped his chin to Celski's back and then it was Celski's left arm that actually pushed Hamlin so he lost control and fell I don't think it was intentionally done but he pushed Hamelin away there was no way Hamelin would've been able to hold stable standing

I'm sorry but at the start of the second race #243 did NOT barge. He just timed it better than everyone else! I watched it at half and full speed. If barging mean crossing the line first then he did not do that. He was punished for being good. His hand did go backwards before the gun went off.

At 24:25 look what #206 did with his skate. He tripped up #252 and knocked himself out of the race. The Koreans ganged up on the pass and crowded #206 into the middle. #206 should have seen this coming and took the inside which was wide open. It is hard to guess what they'll do though.

Now I'm no expert, by I think it's unfair how the skaters start the race. You have one person starting right near the centre and another one right at the end, clearly giving him/her a disadvantage. They should start like sprint races.

I'm surprised to not see any comments here about Canada getting pushed out at 24:27. 4 years ago everyone was so angry about that, but what was he doing grabbing Celski around the waist?
