Hey everyone! Thank you all for continuing to support our channel. We endeavor to provide a high quality product at all times and would like to apologize for the audio problems in this particular video. We take pride in our videos but sometimes $&#! just happens and issues arise. Its understandable to assume that Jordan and I make our living from the TCS channel like so many youtubers do but in truth the ad rev goes back into the store and he and I make these videos happen on a shoestring budget with all our crew and actors on a volunteer basis. We work full time at the store and shoot and produce these videos on our own days off. Now you might ask "why do it then" and very simply its because we love doing it, think we're pretty damn good at, and really enjoy that it's a positive and valuable service to our viewers. We will try our best to avoid any problems in the future and if there are directions you would like to see the channel go we would be happy to hear your thoughts and comments. Thanks for watching and building our channel into the entity it has become! Chris Niccolls @ The Camera Store

Hey guys. Really been looking forward to this review since I learned the Olympus EM1 Mark II was getting ready for first light (as well as for a review for the Panasonic G85)...and guess who got to the finish line first!! Chris & Jordan of course!! You're by far my favorite reviewers. You take the product out into the field and subject it to real world conditions and give us a realistic look at the photo and vid quality we can expect, and I love that. I'm not a pro, but I appreciate a good thing when I see it...and you guys rock!! I'm still torn between the two new mirrorless offerings. I want the best all around performer within this price point, and both impress me. it seems that the Oly EM1 Mark II has a few advantages like the sensor size, headphone jack, incredible shutter speeds, and better low light performance, while the Pan G85 appears to have a slight edge in actual photo and vid sharpness (am I correct here), as well as a more user friendly menu and a lower price, all of which are very important to me. Both appear to have some really sexy, pro quality glass so that one's a wash. These two mirrorless wonders would make for quite a head to head review. Are you gonna do one soon?? Do you have any words of wisdom to offer between the two?? That would probably help me make my final choice. A big fan!

Thank a lot for this review. I was in a shop in Japan, willing to buy a Sony A7 with a 55mm, but budget wise, I had to give up this idea. I then look at the olympus EM-5 mkII and found it very pleasant in hands. I can seriously recommend this camera as an all rounder. Light, with a decent flash, prime lense. Additionnaly, I like the tiltable screen. I can protect it for most of the time. There's is definitely advantages in other systems or BIGGER systems, but since I like traveling light, this camera suits me much better than any other I even had. Your review perfectly match my experience. ;)

Which lens or lenses did you get? I've tried a few, but still have two m43 lenses. For some reason, the expensive Nocticron doesn't look too good on the Olympus bodies... Lots of CA. I think Panasonic bodies must correct this. However, I absolutely adore the Panasonic Leica 42.5mm Elmarit macro on the Olympus EM5/EM10 Mark II. (of course usable for portraits and many other purposes, too, not just macro -- macro, besides close focusing, also refers to the extreme quality of the lens) 0 distortion according to DXO and my eyes, incredible clarity and color. Great microcontrast and pop. Cheap in Japan. Just something to consider. I really don't know of a lens like this for any other system, which is why I keep an m43 body around. Alternate raw process such as Capture One and DXO Optics Pro can also bring out the best in your investment. I'm amazed at how good these cams look with minimal retouching with a good processor.

I've watched two E-M5 II first look videos tonight. Yours by far is the better video. Organized discussion of new features with your expected high quality production. Thanks! By the way, the video quality difference between the FS7 and E-M5 II was astounding even viewing on an iPad Mini at 720p. The FS7 makes the 1080P out of the Olympus look like something from 5 years ago. Obviously not a fair comparison, but I had to point it out.

it looks real nice, with the touch screen can you touch focus pull in video ? and how would you compare it's ability to focus pull using the touch screen to the NX1 or GH4 or 70D, and how good does it stay locked on moving subjects compared to those other cameras, and how does the video quality compare to those cameras in HD, it seems like maybe the video's still a little soft, I wish the Fuji XT1 and Sony A7 line of cameras had everything that this camera has, including the fully articulating touch screen, Can you imagine the sensor shift technology on an A7 or A7r, when i first opened this video i thought there was something wrong with my speakers

Anxiously awaiting the E-M5 Mark III. 4K video and (hopefully) phase detect autofocus at a lower price point than the E-M1 Mark II. I don't need the pro capture mode, but I do want effective subject tracking. AF on the E-M5 Mark II should be at least as good as on the original E-M1 that I currently own.

Excellent review! Just a note though, the sensitivity on the EVF sensor can be adjusted on these cameras. I own an Olympus E-M10 and a Panasonic GH2 and both have similar EVFs. I'm in the market for a new all-round camera (probably with a tight stronger focus on video). Would you recommend this one for this job or should I wait for something else? Thanks for the review. I looked at the to images EM5mk11 and the Pentax produced, and really looking at it closely there REALLY was hardly any difference. one area on the EM5mk11 was better than the Pentax and other areas the Pentax was better than the EM5II. The difference was really not worth mentioning.I am in a wheelchair and needed a light camera. I bought 2. One 2nd hand and the other new. @Sarvagya49 жыл бұрын
Definitely a Mark II primarily because it has all the features and more..namely silent shutter speed, better auto focus, and the swivel screen
@paristo9 жыл бұрын
Take E-M5II over anything. Better video (works in countries where 50hz power grid = ~ all but USA/Japan) Better IBIS (in video) Worse screen (swivel instead tilt) Smaller that can be grown with extra grip (E-M1 body not possible to shrink) And cheaper ($100-300€) Doesn't have PDAF like E-M1 (fast continues focus 9fps) The only reason to get E-M1 is if you have 4/3 mount objectives that need PDAF focusing, or if you don't need video with 50hz support but C-AF for high 9-10fps framerate. 90% of time I would suggest E-M5II over E-M1.
@danieldougan86137 жыл бұрын
How is the C-AF tracking? E-M1 original vs E-M5 Mark II vs E-M10 Mark II vs E-PL8 (I currently have an E-PL5 with the VF-4 viewfinder)? I know the E-M1 Mark II blows them all away, but that's way beyond my budget now.

Have any of the firmware updates addressed the moiré? I've been thinking about picking up one of these used, primarily as a video camera alongside my E-M1 (maybe using the E-M1 as a B cam since this has a headphone jack in the battery grip), but whenever I see videos on KZbin taken with this camera -- even some otherwise very professional-looking videos -- I see quite a bit of aliasing and moiré in things like pine trees. I also noticed some odd skin tones with this...people tend to look a little green (but not Jordan in this clip). Firmware 2.0 did provide a "flat" profile, insofar as Olympus knows what a flat profile is.
@theSUBVERSIVE9 жыл бұрын
I'm still optimistic since this can be one of the best run & gun cameras but the video sample from the E-M5 MKII looked a bit mushy and soft and with much less DR than its pictures, sun and snow can be quite challenging so I'll wait for further tests in video. I hope it can surprise me with the IQ in video.

Hey Everyone. I have a dilemma, I own a 60D, i love the camera, and enjoy shooting with it, except for not the not-so-good ISO perf, everything works excellently. after couple years, I m thinking to buy a new lens (24-70mm f2.8) as an upgrade. but given its price, i can already buy a new camera like OMD E-M5 kit. I m thinking whether should consider changing my camera completely, or stick to my Canons. Quality-wise, which one would be better? FYI, i m not professional, i dun mind bringing my camera around for street photography/ travelling. but normally i would only bring 1 lens. (at max i bring my pencake 40mm too) your opinions are much treasured, Thank you in advance !
@ronnbot9 жыл бұрын
I think you'd be happy with the E-M5mkII. Mount a pro zoom like the 12-40/2.8 or a fast prime like 17/25/45 and you're golden. The 14-42 kit lens are pretty sharp for a kit too. I switched from Canon since I had no intention of going FF and didn't like EFS lens options; EF lens like the 2.8 zooms would just be a waste with non-optimal focal-lens on a cropped APS-C. You'd save more by selling and getting the Oly, instead of getting a 24-70/2.8.

i love the look of this camera. But should i even consider it over like the canon 6d which is full frame? Does this camera get a good shallow depth of field or do well in low light compared to a cheaper canon?
@jamiehansen56049 жыл бұрын
Depth of field is never going to be as good on a 4/3's camera as on a full frame. That being said, I only shoot 4/3s cameras. Just like with any camera, you need good glass. The Math: If you set your 4/3s camera to F 1.8, it will have the same depth of field as F3.6 on a Full Frame. So, if your looking for just separation, they get F0.95 glass for your 4/3's. I for one used the 75mm 1.8 for headshots, and it kills it. www.allanglesmag.com I shot everything on the site with E-M5s and an E-M1
@joshuassonjs9 жыл бұрын
There is no such thing as a cheaper canon full frame lol it depends on you. The quality between this camera and a full frame camera isnt a big difference. The full frame will be better but not much. You probably wont notice until you do 3 foot prints which is probably never. shallow dof is pretty easy. You can match full frame dof up to F 1.8 so full frame only has 1 stop shallower dof with canon f1.2 glass or The rare FO. 95 glass if you can afford it, for most the difference is in most cases unnoticeable.

PeglegMedia Something to consider is once you go Full Frame you will have to go Full budget on lenses. Hence the advantages of the Micro Four Thirds format. They offer a full range of top, pro quality glass for a fraction of the cost over FF lenses. So the $250 extra you spend on the Canon 6D starts growing with every lens you purchase. If you all ready have good M43 glass, then this camera should fill you still photography needs quite well INCLUDING be a great second video camera should you need it with your GH4.

David Fonseca ive thought this through and its not actually more expensive. I currently have a bunch of panny and oly lenses, if i didnt use my gh4 for photography i could sell them all since i wouldnt need auto focus for video only. I would only need the tamron 24-70 2.8 and the tamron 70-200 1.8 with the metabones speedbooster. These 2 lenses would get the better shallow depth of field with the speedbooster and would work great for photos. The tamron is cheaper than the panny 12-35 so i save money there. My 45mm, 75mm and 14-140 would almost be enough to get the 70-200mm lens. So overall its the same price and i get better video quality, and better photos. I'm just nervious about a big change without exploring all my options

E-M1 IBIS is 5-axis too. And I manage to take with the 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro 1/2 seconds in one handheld and by two handheld 2-3 seconds sharp shots. If E-M5 II has even better IBIS, I probably get to 3-5 seconds handheld (to me handheld = standing without any kind other support than my feets).

I like the inclusion of an adjustable lcd screen for discreet or low/high angle shooting, but is this 'fully-articulating screen' able to tilt BEHIND the sensor plane? If it doesn't have that basic function, then it is no more useful than a fixed lcd to me.

I'm not ready for micro 4/3 or mirrorless yet. I'm still working with full frame DSLR and i like it that way. Maybe one day but for me, for now, this is a "whatever" kind of thing.

Awesome video and review. Thinking of getting this for my KZbin channel for blogging as well as for travel photography. Maybe you guys have some helpful insight? I'm considering the following cameras: Gear - [ ] Canon G7X (DSLR) - [ ] Canon 70D (DSLR) - [ ] Olympus Pen F (mirrorless) - [ ] Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II (mirrorless) - [ ] Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II (mirrorless) - [ ] Sony A6500(mirrorless) - [ ] Canon EOS M3 (Mirrorless) - [ ] Panasonic LUMIX DMC GH4 (mirrorless) Here is the key boxes I'm looking to check: -excels at video w/ good image quality for stills as secondary function -1080p for video (4K is a plus), 20 mp+ for stills (16 acceptable but slight minus as I would like to take some landscape shots on travel) -decent range of lenses, good overall lens quality for the camera of choice -external mic very desirable (unless onboard mic is quality) -flip-screen for vlogging (w/ touch ideally) -relatively lightweight -built-in Wi-fi connectivity for easy social sharing, big plus for easy video sharing -easy + intuitive UI Any input greatly appreciated (from other viewers as well), cheers!

I'd say audio is muffled due to Chris wearing so many layers. Perhaps change to a lapel mic if it's cold so audio isn't as muffled.

If you have to Chose would go with the Panasonic GX8 or the OMD EM 5 MkII? I do more video but im trying to get into photography also!

The GX80/GX85, because it has 5-axis stabilization that's only a bit worse than the Olympus, but more importantly, 4K. If you're photo only, the Olympus colors are a little nicer out of the box. In fact, you're a JPEG shooter, Olympus is probably quite a bit better than at the GX80/85 since it's tuned a bit strange. But if you're going to shoot raw, you can make your own presets that'll make up for a lot of the colour differences. Raw on the 80/85 should beat the Olympus, as it's a high res, more advanced sensor. It's just that as a cheaper camera, they detuned JPEGs a bit. RAW doesn't care, though. Raw is raw. :) I'd say watch your complete stack. Consider better software, too, like the Capture One or DXO Optics Pro.

How is it on video?

Random aside - if it's a capacitive screen then although presumably waterproof, it's not usable for touch once wet?

Hi EM5 the original does not allow you to have Multiple exposures ( for HDR ) and timer so in mark 2 did they solve this problem

Hey, I suppose the High Res shot mode does not produce a raw file?

cool, I did not get one thing, how come on the oly you shot the buildings at ISO 200 shutter 320 and aperture 8, but on the pantex you shoot the same shot at ISO 200, shutter 750 and aperture 8? couldnt that effect the dynamic range on the clouds?
@TheCameraStoreTV9 жыл бұрын
Actually, the light changed between shots while we switched the quick release and setthe Pentax up. The difference between shutter speeds would not be noticeable in terms of resolution on that tripod. Jordan @ TCSTV
