Ezio, the thing you gotta realize, is CaptainMeme is a nervous wreck at this point in his diplomacy career. He wakes in a cold sweat, his nightmares placing him back in the 81 player game. He sees stabs everywhere.

Oh wow when I screw over my friends for an insubstantial and often underthought gains I'm called a "psycho" but when Cap and Ezio do it they're called "balance of power players" and everyone _DEFINTELY_ respects them for it 😆

Really, the problem with france being as OP as it is now, lies partly in the geography, which moving the Spanish SC to Naf might fix, but also partly in the meta: Why does England almost never open to the Channel? I think some rethinking of the Anglo-French relationship ought to be considered.
@WilsontrippletsАй бұрын
Supply point in Piedmont? Would give Italy more of a reason to go towards France as an opener and would make France need to play more cautiously as jt brings a unit into a spot where it can't easily be redeployed to shore up a front under attack like France was in the opening moves.

Yeah I asked about "what was the greasiest thing you've done" for the sake of a play in Diplomacy; expanding on the joke about "bang his wife, shoot his dog, riffle through his mail if it means you get Belgium." Some dude asked for proof he wasn't jerking him around (Cap was indeed, jerking him around) and had been fabricating a sandbox view of the map with the message log entirely faked. The stab was apparently not that worth it ultimately -- young Cap was stab happy, now he just says he's "a balance of power player" 🙄 rationalizing his flagrant treachery and geopolitical wankery.

For minor map changes to slightly nerf France, might I suggest splitting MAO with a separate Bay of Biscay tile (between ENG, Bre, Gas, and Spa NC), such that France no longer directly borders MAO?
@DiploStrats2 ай бұрын
Which tiles would the *new* MAO border? I'm worried about this idea b/c I fear it will make it even less appealing to attack France.
@yaitz33132 ай бұрын
@@DiploStratsMy thought was that the new MAO would border all the sea tiles, Spain NC, Portugal, and North Africa. Imagine a line drawn from somewhere along the ENG/MAO border down to Spain NC. That would put France at the same distance from MAO that Britain is. You're worried that would make the new Bay of Biscay into something like what Heligoland is to Germany?

I've always wanted a map where Spain was somehow split so that it didn't have a north coast and a south coast only because of the weird "unintuitive to real life" ramifications of say, a unit in Gascony being able to help a move from WMS-Spa (sc). Same goes for StP and Bul.
@DiploStrats2 ай бұрын
@@douglashudson4706 A fleet in Gascony can support an attack into Spain South Coast.
@douglashudson47062 ай бұрын
@DiploStrats I know it *can*, I'm just saying it's unintuitive from a "real world" point of view. You know of anything that could lob artillery that far that existed 1901? (This is not a complaint, I've just always wondered what a dip map with no split coast territories would play like.)
@poohssmartbrother11462 ай бұрын
After watching all of the diplostrats videos, I think it is obvious France is OP, pls nerf. I like the idea of Naf being a SC instead of Spain or Perhaps Iberia is worth 1 point instead of two.
@DiploStrats2 ай бұрын
I'm reluctant to change the total supply center count as I think that is pretty well balanced at the moment with west vs east, so that's why I prefer moving the SC from Spain to North Africa rather than simply removing it
@PhilTheThrill872 ай бұрын
I think the fact that some countries are unbalanced honestly gives the game more charm and makes it more fun. It means you need to approach every relationship differently. It should really be on players to play a more anti-France meta. I think one of the travesties in modern day diplomacy is the fact that France isn’t treated more like Turkey.
@yaitz33132 ай бұрын
@@PhilTheThrill87Hasn't that been discussed on DiploStrats before? They said the problem with that is that France is way harder to attack early on than Turkey is, and so it's less rewarding and takes more sacrificing potential growth by other players.
@PhilTheThrill872 ай бұрын
@@yaitz3313 I’d honestly say a well coordinated EG can attack France just as well as an AI/AIR can attack Turkey. Especially if Italy is on board. France and Turkey are both defensive corner powers, it’s obviously not going to be easy to crack them early on, but that’s kinda the reason it needs to be done a lot of the time

1:18:52 I am not agile enough for that level of mental gymnastics.
@DiploStrats2 ай бұрын
I probably didn't explain my point well here: You want to trust people as much as you possibly can, without getting stabbed. That is the way to get the most value out of every relationship. If you are *never* getting stabbed, it means you're probably not playing in a way that gives other people the opportunity to stab you, and you're probably struggling to make alliances in general. The idea is that you're never going to be perfect at trusting every individual player in every situation, so if you *never* get stabbed you're probably way too far on the untrusting side of the spectrum.
