Don’t mean this weirdly lol but I absolutely love you. Lol the way you think makes me happy. All the questions I’ve had you basically always answer. I am new to ball python keeping and am wanting to get into breeding eventually and I had a problem with putting the probe on the heat tape but couldn’t think of a way to get it in the tub without using tape. Thanks so much for this. You’re brilliant and I love how you’re always thinking of the little things that will make your daily life and routines easier!!! Keep up all the fantastic work.

Zip tie/strip was an excellent tip and definitely seems like a successful method. I’m gonna do it your way, Matt. I keep a close eye on my balls and I believe it to be good enough but I really like what you’ve shown. Welcome back CGC.

I've always really liked your probe installation. Seems to me that is the most logical place for the most accurate reading. Also I agree on the substrate especially the females. Her instinct is to nest.... So I give her stuff to nest with! 😄

I am with you Matt probe in the tub. Early lesson for me, snake dragged probe to water dish and the rack got hot. I caught it right away. My living room is my reptile room and i noticed they were all out front in 41 qt tubs. So a zip tie it will be. Thanks

Can you sometime explain how heat tape works and where you can get it? For someone like me only having 1 ball atm but want more I will want a rack and know nothing about heat tape. Would appreciate it very much
@OlympusReptiles5 жыл бұрын
Online. It is just a heating element.

Question on this setup that doesnt get talked about much. What is the ambient temp of the room for a rack system? And how do you maintain that. I bought a single story rack for my bp baby and then winter came and the temps dropped. Using a space heater right now but wondering if you have any words of wisdom for that situation. All the best love your content.

How offended do you change the substrate for all ball pythons?
@OlympusReptiles5 жыл бұрын
Just as necessary. I don't keep a set schedule, but may end up developing one.

How would you recommend keeping the probe in place if you use glass tanks?
@OlympusReptiles5 жыл бұрын
When doing glass, I typically mount probe between glass and pad or tape. This will require a separate thermometer then, like many people do. But with no really good way to keep in place probably the safest way to mount, outside the tank.

Hey Matt I have a 10 high diy rack and I placed my probe exactly like yours and I find that the probe senses the temp of the actual tub before the substrate where the snake is actually heats up to temp. So I have it set at 90 and when I shoot the temp gun on the hot spot it would only read bout 85. The only way I could get temp up was to suspend probe on top of the substrate. Any suggestions?
@OlympusReptiles5 жыл бұрын
Yes, often a laser reader will read like that on substrate (their is air etc between the pieces) but when compressed (snake laying on it) can actually be a bit warmer. Probe thermometer might be more accurate
