Chris, you may joke about fish autofocus, @6:30 but… Olympus cameras have a great reputation for underwater photography! So fish autofocus would be (IMO) a huge and obvious gain. Unfortunately, I checked for an underwater housing for the OM-1 yesterday, and… no joy from anyone. Not Olympus. Not the 3P alternatives. I hope that changes because, with all the improvements including +2 stops low light performance and +1 stop dynamic range, the huge battery improvements, I would love to use the OM-1 as my underwater camera. So, please don’t joke like underwater shouldn’t be a priority! 1/2 :-)

Since you asked for more questions, here are some of my questions about the GH6! 1) How is the stabilization when shooting really wide? On the GH5, I would get corner-warping if I walked with the camera at 8mm or 10mm. (Referring to the 8-18mm and the 10-25mm lenses specifically.) 2) Does the GH6 let you generate timelapses with all the same crazy codec options as normal recording? (e.g. can we generate 5.7K ProRes timelapses in-camera?) You guys are awesome and I'm excited for the return of Wooden Nichols! (The Collateral video was so great, one of my favorite videos you've done.)

Ordered my GH6 yesterday, should be here Tuesday.. really looking forward to getting it. Want to compare to my G9 and G85. Yes, I’m more of a photographer, but I want to add video to what I can offer people. I use the 10-25 lens 99% of the time, an amazing lens!! I feel like I’m already half way set up for decent video with that lens, the GH6 and the extra batteries from the G9 working in the GH6, I won’t have to spend a whole lot more to be comfortable making videos. Only thing I’m debating is finding the right CFExpress card, which I have done zero research on so far… or just waiting for the firmware update to write directly to a SSD… decisions decisions…

Nice video. It seems like a great time to get back into M43 these days. If I had known I would start doing videos, I would have stayed with it, but I am getting decent mileage out of my FZ1000 that I went for as my all-in-one to replace my M43 system many years ago after I got tired of lugging around and swapping lenses and feeling that constant need to add something new to my kit. When my FZ1000 eventually throws in the towel, it's not unlikely I will get a GH6 or one of its future successors.

@@mromagnoli true, but as much as I like Olympus/OMS, I put more confidence in DPReview and other reviewers than company marketing. I’d just like someone to confirm/deny the claim. It’s weird how there wasn’t too much overlap in terms of what outlets got the OM-1 and which got the GH6.
@danieldougan2692 жыл бұрын
Obviously, the GH6 is the superior camera for video. However, what I see from the OM-1 is enough of an improvement to make it a more viable option for professional video and filmmaking. Am I wrong for thinking that? There's always more OM could have done. Built-in video assist tools like waveforms and vectorscopes would help too. I could always plug in my monitor for that, but I shouldn't have to. However, that brings me to another issue. A full-size HDMI port would have been welcome. If you need to use an external recorder to get the best quality, the port that plugs into it should be sturdy. The OM-1's phase-detect autofocus (with improved tracking) is the deciding factor for me.

I have a few questions about the GH6: 1) How is V-Log compared to V-Log L on previous Panasonic MFT cameras? Especially with and without DR Boost ON. 2) Is the LCD screen compared to the GH5, any brighter/have less reflections in bright light? 3) When I have shot V-Log L with the GH5 in 10-bit 4:2:2 either IPB or ALL-I, I have noticed there can be what looks like red fringing around contrasting edges of some objects in the frame, such as tree branches against a sky and I have noticed it in out of focus white window frames in one of my videos. its not chromatic aberrations as it doesn't show up when I take a photo in V-Log L or take a photo/video in other picture profiles and it shows up with different lenses so its not a lens issue. Is there any issues like that with V-Log on the GH6? 4) How is the noise when shooting with DR Boost ON in lower light? 5) Do the colors from the GH6 still look the same as the GH5 or are they any different at all, especially in V-Log? 6) Could you do a video comparing the video quality in 4K between the GH6, GH5 and GH5 II? For those wanting to know if it is worth the upgrade and if there are any improvements in image quality over the previous cameras in 4K? Also in V-Log? I am asking about V-Log as I shot all my videos with V-Log L on my GH5 and I plan to only use V-Log on the GH6 for video when I get it for the extra dynamic range and options in editing over other picture profiles.

What a great idea to answer the questions that came up about the camera. I hope you continue this service. Here are my questions: I come from the Lumix GH series I have all cameras 1-5. Now I'm considering getting a new camera and of course the GH6 but also the OM1 are up for discussion. I have read and looked at a lot about the advantages of the OM1. My question: I almost only have Panasonic lenses. 10-35 mm 1.7, 12-60 mm 2.8-4 and 100-400 mm 4-6,3 to name a few. I also have the Olympus 40-150 mm 2.8 though. All these, except of the 40-150mm, worked very well with the dual stabilization (IBIS and lens stabilization) on the GH5. Is the autofocus just as good with the Panasonic lenses? Is the tracking a serial photo shooting with Lumix lenses, especially the 100-400 possible? Do bird and animal recognition work? Is stacking or preroll possible? And what about the lens correction regarding distortion and chromatic aberration? I would be interested in opinions which would help in my decision. Thanks in advance

My MFT wishlist from OM is something like a Pen F II; gimme small, good IBIS, as much computational stuff as possible, and an EVF and I'm delighted. Happy to compromise grip/ergonomics, the quality of one or both the displays, battery life, sports autofocus, and it doesn't have to be super cheap, just give like a turbo smartphone with a viewfinder and interchangeable lenses. Even if they go back to the old removable EVF style that's fine (as long as it tilts like the old one, I might even prefer that to a more compact fixed finder) The new Pen EP7 is close(ish) but it doesn't have high Res mode or any of the fun computational goodies, or an EVF option. Body and controls look lovely though and that's not a bad price even with those compromises

Try to get a 24-200mm F4 constant weather sealed lens with an extra stop IBIS, superior sharpness which is sharp at every single focal length. There probably is no lens that can do that in 35mm-land. Sony and Nikon have similar focal lengths but all these lenses are not properly or at all weather sealed and do not offer constant image quality, even if you might argiue that fullframe is better, which ultimately is the case, yes. However, even if you get a Sony GM or Pro Nikon you'll end up in the 2000+ euro price range. The 12-100 from olympus does all the things abovementioned and is 1100 euros/dollars. There are both cheaper and more expensive pro lenses but 1000 euros is about the average. Granted, it isn't fullframe but perhaps if you test it one day you will like it so much that you will not go back to FF. Or just have both :D. And again: fullframe is double the weight and size, sometimes even more

However, failing to include some key G9 features on the GH6, most notably the ability to attach a battery grip (emphasis on the grip), which is much better for portrait mode and lenses like the Leica 100-400, is a deal-breaker. Therefore, I'll be waiting for the G9 ii, or whatever they call the camera they MUST make, as the GH6 is too video-centric for those of us who shoot stills and don't want the extra bulk/weight to accommodate an unnecessary fan but demand a stills-optimized body!

Special thanks to Chris Nichols for being one of the only You Tube creators who says ISO correctly. Sorry I couldn't take you guys to Costa Rica for the OM-1 like I did for the E-M1III!

will om1 have 4k 120p in the future with firmware update?
@ulysses012 жыл бұрын
This is unclear, since OMDS will not comment on future hardware or firmware updates. However, many have observed that the sensor and the TruePic X seem to have the overhead to do so. That said, even the 4K 60p slowed to 24 fps is looking good. And there’s always the 1080 @ 120 fps.

it will depend if Om-1 have not overhead with 120 fps in 4k, I think if Olympus Om1 have this ability, it was included now, so I dont think it will come in future or with a lot limitation ( time, quality for exemple). OMD have choice to have a OM1 with IP53, I dont think it's possible to have 120 fps with not overhead at this moment, but you will see.

Would love to have it even with a time limitation if heat is an issue with the 4K 120fps

Hi, how does the OM-1 AF tracking with Lumix optics (25 fps, or 10 fps)?

How is the ibis of GH6 when taking photo? Can it stabilize over 1 seconds handheld exposure?
@niccollsvideo2 жыл бұрын
It is drastically improved. Now I'm gonna be honest with you, the manufacturers always like to mention how their cameras can pull off insanely slow shutter speeds handheld, and maybe for instagram it looks good, but when magnified motion blur is definitely an issue. However, Olympus is the undisputed king of stability in my opinion, and now the GH6 is very close to that capability.

Can someone explain why you’d want a small sensor for the same price as a full frame?

Does the OM1 have autofocus in 4k60?

No fish detection? I'm going to cancel my order of the OM-1! At least is there flies detection ?
@niccollsvideo2 жыл бұрын
Depending on how the fly is tied you might get lucky using the bird AF! It worked on a stuffed animal, maybe Chubby Chernobyls or Stimulators will trigger it.

Big question for Jordan: where did you get that shirt? I want one!

Fascinating - you said the OM1 was better for stills, especially at high ISO but the images you shred suggested the GH6 is way better - were the images switched??

Will Panasonic provide 5.8k 60p(5760*3240 not 5728*3024)for GH6 with firmware update in the future? I need 5.8k 16:9 so much.

In the film excerpt from the focus test of the OM1, the color on the face is so artificial? Why.
