I'd never have considered this camera as something for me, but your review has given me hope. There haven't been any compelling new small cameras in years. This looks like it could actually be a lot of fun and will fit into my habit of throwing my everyday camera into my messenger bag with my keys and phone. I especially liked the gritty look of the flash shot. OM.

I know exactly what you mean - I felt the same. But once you fully embrace what it is at its core, it is actually very hard to put it down or leave it at home. The trick is to work with it, not against it - then it is spectacular. Also, I appreciate that you have to work a bit more for some shots than with the OM-1, which is so good that you cannot really mess up. It really is an everyday companion, from parties to hiking, it is really fun. Thanks for the flash shot feedback, btw!

I bought the tg-7 in september. It tok a while to get used to handle the small buttons, but I bought the wireless remote controll at the same time and it works really good now when it's cold and you have bloves on. The different modes are fun to test and the camera is always in my pocket so I don't forget to bring it whith me on my dog walks. Your tutorials have been a good help when learning to use this camera. Thank you! 🙂

Yes, the buttons are quite small, and using the trigger for those scenarios is certainly a good tip. Haven't thought of that yet! Thanks 🙏

I am thinking of buying this camera as an edc for my purse, even though its "rugged", i have a toddler who will want to use it which might be fun and i wont have to worry. Do you think the pictures are okay for basic candid shots of family/friends while you are out in everyday life?

@@ByeByePeachPie I have watched all of Tomas videos and that's a really good help to understand hov to use this camera. I shoot whit the OM1 normally and this camera is a perfect complement. The buttons is quite small, but then the remote controll works perfect out in the cold wether with gloves on for example and it's also easier to keep the camera steady in other situations. With Tomas help I haven't had to use the manual at all. Maby it's also easier when your used to the OM systems and olympus earlier cameras, who knows. 🙂

Dear Thomas, I read your suggestions too late: I already damaged the front lens and the back panel too. Yes, I utilized my TG-5 in very roughly conditons, on boats or mountains, and I enjoied its strenghts. Ok, it isn't like new now, but it works still well. After your ideas, I am using TG-5 more often, as second or even third camera during my activities. Sergio from Milano

I'm sorry to hear that! But as you've said - a few scratches don't really impact the usability of the camera. And again, I'm very happy that you work more with your TG, it is such a cool camera to have and use! Thank you very much for watching, and for your channel membership!

Thank you Thomas. I’m a dentist: do you think that this camera is good for intraoral and dental photography?
@ThomasEisl.Photography6 ай бұрын
I'd say it is excellent for dental photography, especially with the FD-1 flash diffuser and/or the LG-1 light guide. If you want the best possible setup and budget is of no concern, I recommend an OM-1 with dedicated macro flash and M.Zuiko macro lenses. If you need specific details, send me an email 📨. Hello Thomas. Thank you for this video. I bought the TG-7 following your review, as well as some of the accessories referred to in this video, and your expert guide (because why not), but I sincerely struggle to get any super macro shot sharp, even with the Light Guide LG-1. I wish you would either do a video, or expand your guide, on how one should use the camera, and under which settings, to get the best results, because I find it quite frustrating at the moment. Thank you for all the hard work, cheers!
@ThomasEisl.Photography11 ай бұрын
Hello there! It can be a bit tough with the LG-1 indeed. My recommendation is to set the ISO manually and use A mode. By doing so, you can force the TG to use a faster shutter speed. My recommendation is to ensure at least a shutter speed conforming to the 35mm equivalent reciprocal rule. E.g. at the widest end 24mm means at least 1/30 as a shutter speed. In super macro situations, 1/60 or 1/125 is even better, depending on how stable you can hold the camera. I'm indeed planning on doing a Macro Expert Guide video, where I will talk about these things. Hope this helps, and thanks for purchasing the guide! Best, Thomas

Thanks for your review. However! I'm a real world user of these cameras and I had two TG-5 cameras fail me, once in the Philippines, and once in the Caribbean. On both occasions, they flooded while I was snorkeling. Both occasions I was careful to make sure that the camera seals were in place, and in fact, on the second occasion the camera was still closed but the water had leaked into the camera body! For the first flooding incident I had to mail the data card to a data recovery business and they recovered a number of the shots; for the second flood incident the data card was ok because I immediately removed it from the camera. Again, Never use this camera in the water to shoot fish, etc. without an external underwater housing cover. As far as being tough on land, yes, the cameras take great pics and are sturdy. Again, with two failed cameras I would never trust them to be underwater without an external cover.

I love the camera but the only issue Im having is I cannot use the camera while it is charging with the cable that was included in the package. What are the steps to bypass charging? Hi. I really like your review of this camera and the wealth of great information provided. I do not get out much but when I do, I go to places worth going and take photos of really great things like wildlife and scenery. I would like to know if photos on this camera would stand up well if they were enlarged a lot. To like poster size? I'm looking to get great quality enlargement at 40+ inches" is this possible in your opinion? This seems to be a very technical subject that no reviewers will touch. I hope you will give it a shot. I have in the past used a galaxy note 9 and had only just except-able results enlarging a photo to 16"x 24"Inch and hope to do a lot better. Do you think this camera would do any better even though not so many MP 12 ? Looking forward to your reply Kind regards Tuubey

The first equipment I bought with my TG7 was the filter adapter CLA-T01 with a protector filter recomended for rain, a screen protector for the back and the LG-1, and it was all based on your videos on the TG7. When going hiking I stay with just the CLA-T01 and the filter (and the lens cap provided with the CLA-T01). I still need to figure what would be the minimum shutter speed I can use when doing macros without the LG-1, it can be blurry especially when light is not great and camera is choosing a slow shutter speed. What are your advices for that, based on your experience ?
@ThomasEisl.Photography11 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for sharing and welcome to the TG-7 club! So regarding the blur - when shooting macro like you described, I always stick to the reciprocal rule when I can sufficiently support my hands. If not, I tend to double the shutter speed. The LG might not provide sufficient illumination for all situations & hands free macro. I would definitely recommend considering the FD-1 as well. The flash is much more powerful and allows for blur-free fast shutter speeds. Hope this helps! Best, Thomas

In terms of optical quality and coatings, the Nano X is better (but also more expensive) - I bought the X for my tough, but I've also used K type filters in the past, which are also not bad - especially for the money. Hi there! I'm looking into getting the OM SYSTEM Tough TG-7 as a weather-resistant camera. I'm a bit lost when it comes to memory cards. The camera supports UHS-I, and I was thinking of getting the Lexar Professional 1667x 128GB SDXC UHS-II/U3 Card V60. Since I don't know much about memory card standards, would this card work fine, or should I stick to UHS-I cards? Also, any recommendations for a good memory card that would offer the best performance for both photography and 4K videos? Thanks a bunch!
@ThomasEisl.Photography11 ай бұрын
Hey there and welcome to the TG-7 club! The Lexar card will work fine, however: an UHS-I card would be sufficient - the TG-7 does not utilize the UHS-II standard, so even if you get an UHS-II, you don't get any benefits. Personally, I use Lexar cards and San Disk Pro cards. Both brands are very reliable in my experience. Hope this helps!
