OM617 Conversion Series: Transmission Adapter Plate Installation (Toyota R150)

This is a walk-thru of an adapter plate install on a Mercedes OM617. The Doomsday Diesel adapter plates are all very similar in construction, so this video can be applied to all of my adapters. For specific directions, reference the written instructions on the product's web page.

What flywheel are you using? I’m looking into this swap again. I will be going into a first gen Toyota with a W56.

I supply new flywheels with my adapters. I only use the 9‐1/4".

The Ram 1500 is a little too big to be a big hit with a 617. The 606 is a much better match.

@@ktanner11 the Dakota's changed transmissions like I change my socks. You're best bet is to run a Jeep AX15, or swap bellhousings to run a Dodge. I can't justify supporting all the variations the Dakota's had.

@@doomsdaydiesel i understand you from a business point but a 44re or 46re in a Dakota is no different than a half ton.............. They all share the same 727 outer case. I think i will just make my own.

@@ktanner11 the cost of building your own (properly) will be double if not triple the cost of one you can buy since you'll go thru 2, 3 maybe even 5 plates before you get it dialed. The question becomes if you have the time to invest into making it vs. just finding a different trans.

How much is your adapter plate and the Pilot bearing. For a W54 transmission or a Nissan TD27 transmission to fit on the OM617

Question for ya bro, I'm trying to put a "79 om617 in an isuzu rodeo 2.2 with a manual and use the manual trans from the isuzu. The 617 was an auto so its got the auto flywheel but nothing else so I'm a bit lost on which way to go. Can you make an adaptor for the isuzu flywheel or would you recommend trying to use a stock Mercedes manual flywheel with isuzu 5 speed? I don't need it perfect just want to get it mated up. Thanks brother

The Isuzu guys typically swap in Toyota trannys. Cheap and plentiful and the cheapest trans adapters I have.

Will the r150 fit in the w123 chassis? I’m looking for a better transmission preferably a 5 speed to put in I was wondering if you had any recommendations?

The W56 and R150 shifters both line up almost perfectly with the W123 shifter hole
