My grandfather was a medic in the big red one he was on the first wave to land on Normandy. Me and my dad went to see where he landed and he got emotional. He also was in the south africa campaign italy campaign and the beginning half of the push into germany and of course France he was wounded while getting anybody else who was I hired behind lines to safety Unfortunately a german mortar fell near his position and killed the other man may he rest in peace.😔 while my grandfather was Injured he had shrapnel embedded in his chest and leg left wrist and right leg he survived but had permanent nerve damage so when he got back home his wife who was a nurse and that's where they met was when he was getting fixed up he was also a in home doctor so his wife would help with him sowing up people. Very very brave and honorable men faught on all sides. My russian side all of them served. My great great great grandfather was shot in the head during the great patriotic war he luckily survived which was crazy. His head looked like a slightly elongated watermelon kinda like the crystal skull from Indiana jones

He survived and fought through the whole war. He went from Dunkirk back home, then was some of the first feet back on the ground. Fought in the bulge and Rine crossing.
