Omang? Griqua Founders Day - Kranshoek, South Africa

The Griqua community of Kranshoek, under patronage of Paramount Chief Alan le Fleur celebrate their history and the birthday of their founding father. Series produced and directed by Bjorn Rudner for the Media Peace Centre and funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund.

It's so weird as a Dutch person to see these people with probably Dutch ancestors speaking a language (Afrikaans) and having a culture sort of similar to mine. They even, as far as I can see, follow a typically Dutch form of protestantism. I just found out about some of the history of these people and I'm utterly fascinated, even though the Dutch did horrible things there back in the day. I should visit this region some day.

I'm coloured but I speak very little Afrikaans. I've always loved hearing people from Namibia and the Northern Cape speak Afrikaans. Sadly you only see Afrikaners speaking Afrikaans on KZbin

South Africa was once a whole bunch of independent states, until the British forces everyone to live together under their hegemony. I think that ultimately things will only improve when it balkanizes and any community that wishes to be independent can have full independence. The NWO will never let that happen, but maybe God will bring it to pass.
