The semantics that followed after Omar said 6 is aeolian was a lot of mental gymnastics lol😂

The key sig/tonal center debate is probably the most semantics based disagreement, because major and relative minor key signatures are by definition the same. #nosuchthingasminor1 just posits that major is the top-level framework for tonal harmony and minor is a subset of that framework, thus having to relate the three flavors of minor chord back to their respective major keys.

@@mikeoxlong7533 the confusion comes from the fact that major/rel. minor keys just happen to share the same key signature. The key signifies the general tonality and/or the tonal center. Key signature is merely a visual instruction that indicates the diatonic scale used within the key. If you believe nosuchthingasminor1 then you also have to say that keys don’t define tonality or the tonic for that matter. Example: “Summertime” the tonality is A minor but in the key of C? The “church” number system is a method of communication, not rooted in any theory. Trying to use it as a basis for harmonic analysis is pointless because that’s not the point of the system itself.
