Interesting . It will also be insightful how this camera will render the style of pictures you get from your other cameras and whether you end up using this new one more for work or pleasure . Cameras are always evolving and as I have said many times before ; there is no perfect camera . That said, I’m going to be interested to see how you get on with the camera . I can imagine many more videos to come and be interested in the comparisons you find and what works best for you. Clearly , the camera must have been inspirational for you to have bought one - so , let us see the magic it can create . Lovely video by the way .

I applaud you for keeping an open mind and really putting the camera through its paces before drawing any conclusions. It seems that so many on KZbin use a camera that they’re unfamiliar with for a day or two and then give it an unfair review. Enjoy your new camera!
@carlmcneill11393 жыл бұрын
If you shoot different types of photography you can set up the U1, U2, and U3 buttons and save your settings to each one. So if you do sports, you can set the camera up to how you would have it to shoot sports and then save it to one of the U controls. You can do the same for astrophotography and portraits or whatever you shoot that has certain settings that you start out on. Then you just have to switch it to the one you need for the type of photography you're doing at the time. But wait, it gets better. You can customize the function buttons and the i menu for each one of the U controls. You don't need spot metering for astrophotography but you will for portraits. You can set up a function button just got spot metering to use when you are using that U control. You can have that same button set up to do something different on another U control. You might want bracketing or focus stacking in the i menu for one of the U controls but not in that menu for one of the others.

I am running a Nikon Z6 and Fuji X100V. The Fuji is great for when I want that film look and am feeling artsy, or just want a small camera to bring with me. The Nikon dominates everything else. The images I get from my Nikon are incredible. Welcome to the club!

Same here. Sold off all (..almost) my Fuji gear after trying a Z50 and then getting Z6ii. No way I get rid of my X100V. It’s so discrete and invisible. I left Nikon a few years ago for Fuji but after using Z50 & Z6ii I am BACK! Colors & metering from Z bodies/lenses are superb. Build quality is excellent. Kudos to Nikon for bringing it. I’ll never give up Fuji colors entirely but Nikon has something with how pleasant their ‘accurate’ colors/tones are.

Honestly, the Z mount is just beginning to show what it can do. Nikon have set themselves up for a long time with this mount, from perfect image quality with their new Z lenses, to crazy stuff like the Megadap that lets people autofocus with any older/vintage lens. Truly a future-proof system. For mine, I've got it all setup for manual focus/vintage lenses. Focus peaking on, AE-L button is a 200% zoom to quickly check focus, then my F1/F2 on the front of the camera are set to multi-exposure/HDR and image quality (since the Z6 needs to be shooting .jpg in order to do the stacking in-camera, not that I use it that often). Record button in camera mode lets me select the focal length of my manual lens (to get IBIS).

I've configured my joystick press and hold to disable flash. When using ttl flashs the z cams disable the live exposure preview, which kind of makes it difficult to visualise the bg exposure, when the joystick is pressed and held the camera shows the actual exposure. Its particularly useful for me while shooting in high speed sync.

Thank you! The AF-S part was particularly enlightening! I shot Canon equipment when I went digital and switched to Nikon after many years when I went full-frame. I bought used Nikon equipment (D750 and 3 lenses) from a wedding photographer and didn't understand why just the 50mm lens didn't focus with my new Z-6 and FTZ converter. After watching your video, I noticed the other 2 lenses were the AF-S type and the 50 was just AF. I also programed my FN1 button for image preview (from your tip) as one of the drawbacks of Nikon is having to change your grip of the lens to hit the button on the left side. Something Canon figured out years ago!

Great video as always Omar. As a Nikon user the 1st thing I change is f6 - Release Button to Use Dial. Set to on and you no longer have to hold a button down while you adjust a setting. A9 Focus point wrap, it allows the focus point to move from one edge of the display to the other side. Not such a big deal now that there is touch screen but I like it. F5 Customize command dials, I turn on for menus and playback so that I can use the command dials to navigate menus and images. Everything else are basic changes or weird things that only make sense to me.

Hey Omar - one thing to consider is setting your F1 are the Image review play button and then turn image review off - this way you can see images only as needed while keeping your eye up to the viewfinder - this is super convenient for checking your flash work's exposure and also for reviewing images outside when the sun is bright and the back screen is washed out. Also your subjects will never know that you are image reviewing, which is nice :) Then program the video record button to be the AF toggle button (taking the place of what you use F1 for now) - then change the dials when using the AF toggle so that the back dial changes things like single point and auto area with eye detect etc, and the front dial changes between Af-s and Af-c - its less awkward this way. As far as white balance goes - just program that into your i menu for fast access when needed - I assume you don't change your white balance from shot to shot.

I rented the Nikon Z6 II for about a week last year, and really enjoyed it as well. Unlike the Canon, Nikon released some very nice, fast and affordable compact primes. The 24, 35, 50, and 85 f1.8 primes are fast, quiet and very good quality. I also love the ergonomic design, of the Nikon Z bodies and I love how you can pick RAW sizes especially in the higher resolution bodies like the Z7 II. The dynamic range won me over as well as they use a Sony sensor. The only thing that turned me off is the autofocus system. But I felt like I could get used to it. Nikon is a great company and I really hope they survive the lull they have and I think the Z series is severely underrated partly because of maybe their more “quieter” feature set. Best thing about the Nikon is you can get a really nice professional kit for a very affordable price. And their f1.8 primes are better than Canon’s in image quality. You’re making me want to consider a Nikon purchase! 😂

Having watched your recent Nikon videos a few times, my Z6ii has just arrived today :) I fell in love with Fuji a number of years ago, highly influenced then again by your videos. The Z system seems to be a great full frame system to use in tandem with Fuji. I recently ordered and instantly returned a Sony A7iii as it felt very cheap and almost like a controller for a games console (just my opinion). The z6ii feels like it is in a different league in every way though. Eye auto-focus maybe be slightly better with the Sony (apparently), but the z6ii has a lot of room to grow with updates and though I've had the camera for all of 5 hours so far, I am absolutely blown away by the quality of the build and it's images. Great video, lot's of fun to see how you setup the camera. Since I am constantly switching between Z 7II (very similar settings) and Canon 6D II, I found your "shutter speed on the front dial" change to be useful, as I'm often confused after switching from the Canon to the Nikon, like "oh which dial does what again? Oh yeah..." A couple of other things I always change: RAW 14-bit with lossless compression (as it doesn't lose any data), Color Space Adobe (not sure if that is worth the hassle of constantly converting to sRGB but I do it anyway). I set Active D-Lighting to low to preserve the shadows. I have been using red for focus peaking but I will try the yellow now to see how that goes. Cheers...

Hey, I didn't think you were gonna go for it for a minute there! Congrats and I hope you enjoy your new camera, Omar! Oh, and have you seen those Pergear CFExpress cards? They're crazy cheap for the format, like $119 for 128gb, 189 for 256, and 319 for 512gb. For Fn1 I have focus settings as you do. But I'm torn regarding Fn2. Fn2 -> I keep going back and forth between "Subject tracking" and "Disable/enable flash." I like the latter because with my camera and flash combo "Apply settings to live view" is automatically toggled to off when I turn on my flash, and viceversa. It is quite handy to press Fn2 to get an ambient light preview when shooting flash, or to quickly snap an available light shot. But then I can't do subject tracking as easy. I would love for Nikon to add flexibility to button customization. Also it would be amazing if subject tracking could be engaged pressing a button regardless of the current area mode.

There are so many different configurations for setting up the camera, it's overwhelming. Thank you in advance.

oddly enough a couple of times the photo that came out was not what I seen in the evf, have you ever had this happen to you?

My menus. 🤯 I am finding that my auto bracketing turns off every once in a while, or after a certain amount of non-use. Also, my display will go away while I’m recording video or waiting to record video and I have to like wake up the camera. I can’t for the life of me find the setting, hoping that it is a setting. Can you help?

Hi Omar, I have been enjoying watching your videos lately, thanks for the content. I am curious to know what inspired you to get into the Nikon mirrorless world. Sure the Z6II is a good camera but why pick that over a Canon R6/R5 or stay with the Sony one(s) you have?

Could you please do a video about the JPEG settings on the Nikon? 😊 (Picture control)

nice tuto. what about video settings ? when U1-U3 are used for photo, is it possible to re-use U1-U3 for video ? when i toggle to video, i am always in a bad mode and spend time to change all settings.

Out of curiosity, the setting you have on your Nikon where you push the joystick in to reset the focus point to the center is how I have my Nikon set up as well. Is there an option to do that on the X-T4? Either it doesn’t exist or I’m blind.
@nightowlnzab3 жыл бұрын
Yes, on the X-T4 you press the joystick once to see the AF grid (where you can scroll the rear command dial to adjust size), then press it again to re-centre the point.
@danielschmaderer3 жыл бұрын
@@nightowlnzab so I got that. Is there a way to push it once to recenter the way Nikon does it?

For video, use Neutral and set your Contrast to -3 and Saturation to -2. Best results to color grade compared to Flat profile which artificially raises ISO in the shadows.

"OK" button as 100% magnify which will go to the focus point of your photo, of course you can use tap to tap whenever you want during playback - this should solve you problem in previous videos B-)

How have you found the Z6II Omar - I'm a Nikon D750 owner but still undecided because of the mixed reviews.
@saarin0tsorry3 жыл бұрын
I sold my D750 for the Nikon Z6. I don’t know what magic went into the new sensor, but it’s better than the D750. But more importantly, the new Z lenses are creme of the crop! NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is probably the best glass I own! (well my AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR is also a keeper).
@ogonzilla3 жыл бұрын
Image quality blew everything I own away. Files are doing exactly what I’ve been looking for so for me it was a win. The D780 is sort of a hybrid of the two btw

@@ogonzilla thanks Omar - thats very helpful. Im doing a lot of food photography for a social media company - so colour is important - I noticed 'the bite shot' have moved to the Z7 ll from Canon.

What of the Reviews lets you hesitate? I believe I sag all of them and they all test the Camera very good except the AF being behind Sony or Canon. But first, the AF is very good and second it is highly overrated as Killer Feature. If in the real world you are not only fotographing jumping people you might even like the AF and get used to it.

Omar congrats on being a Nikon owner, but I have a question for you, I have the original Z6 and my son has the Z6 ii and as an event shooter yourself as we are, do you find the eye autofocus on your Sony locking on more or is stickier under harsher lighting conditions. My reason for asking is we had an event and although it went well, the Z6 II, which was used for video and photos at one point on the main stage, the video was fine but the eye autofocus was erratic by comparison. We still use a Nikon d750 and a d500 for sports and two black magic for video. Since you are a Sony shooter and I’m not sure if you have shot many things with the Nikon yet, but are you going to change your habits with event shooting and still shoot Sony or incorporate Nikon more. We had three shooters at our event with one of them shooting video on part of the event with the Z6 Ii that was used on the main screen for graduation. We are expanding and getting more government contracts and we primarily will use black magic for video only, but this was an exception. I want and need the accuracy more for photos on the Nikon than video and yes we both know how to make the autofocus changes quickly and the cameras are set up correctly, but accuracy is key and I’m being told that for this purpose Sony A7 series might be an answer. I need the autofocus to stick and not move because kids never do as you want during the times that you need them to, so as you know you must be ready for almost everything. We are using a QR code system for graduation photos to link them. I’m also glad that weddings are opening back up again and we have one in three weeks, along with 9 other events.
@ogonzilla3 жыл бұрын
I rarely use eye AF during events even with Sony’s excellent one. Locked single focus point to capture fast moving action in low lighting. For the Nikon, I parked it on a center square and had a good hit rate. For video, not sure. Most videographers I work with manual focus
@sidvicious31293 жыл бұрын
@@ogonzilla for video we mainly use the Blackmagic cameras and they are manual focus, we just didn't want to bring them out for this shoot because it wasn't really needed so the Nikon was used and I believe my video guy was manual focus. Me and the other photographer were shooting photos. Thanks Omar.

Can the joystick be set to scroll through menus? Up/down/select?
@jason45553 жыл бұрын
I don’t think so. But with the Z6 II the touch screen can be used to scroll up and down and select menus directly which is really helpful (unlike my Fuji). I have my joystick set to reposition the focus point and if pressed it quickly recenters the focus point a la Fuji. I hope that helps. 👍
