At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. The woman in red is Yulia Parshuto, who is a fine singer in her own right and also one of the contestants on the show- which is Showmaskgoon, where all the competitors also act as judges. The man who stood up is Yusef Eiwazov, an opera singer and the husband of one of the world's great opera singers, Anna Netrebko. This was the first episode of the show, which required the singers to do a standard each week for 9 weeks, in different styles. What I think you are seeing is the reaction of all the singers to Diana, understanding that before the competition ever really begins they have no chance of winning. How do you face a voice like that, one which is so rare and so unique and so powerful that you likely have never heard anything like it before? The disconnect between what you see and what you hear is so gigantic it is beyond belief. The last belt is spine chilling. What a performance! Have you seen Humans yet? Or Personal Jesus? Just wait!

They don't get to choose outside of the "your choice" category. This rendition was for the "Grammy" category. The reason why someone was missing is because that was Diana's spot. Last weekend Diana performed a Cossack folk song. One of Pelageya's staples.
