I was taught that UML was for generating code and databases but now I use it exclusively to debug and refactor my own code!

Crazy, have not used it in a long time. I did it when I was working in JAVA. We used MS Visio. I think we had a plugin to export java code and create the database. Enjoy your videos; thx for making it. Debugging and reading other peoples' code is an excellent skill to have.

That's a good use case! I use PlantUML from time to time, it's pretty neat - You write the entities and their relationships as a series of commands and it generates the graph for you. There's a lot you can do with it but you do need to learn the syntax (the website has good documentation at least).

Most people hate debugging because they don't understand or know what it really is.

For me, part of it is that there's no satisfaction. When you add a new feature and it works you feel you've accomplished something.... when you're debugging it's just : "well, now it works, like it was supposed to from the beggining".
