Omega Seamaster 2254.50 - the best 41mm watch of its era!

Thats a question I'm unable to answer Stephan as I rarely wear it more than a couple of days running , far too many watches to choose from . However when wearing it over that period of time it only gains 4 to 5 seconds but bare in mind that overnight its sitting dial up on a table.@@StephanoHamez

I'm glad more attention is being brought to this watch. I personally own the 50th anniversary which is the GMT no HE version of this. I love them both. The 2254.50 was the first Omega I ever tried on that gave me that "ah hah" moment. That moment when you know a specific brand will play a large part in your future collection. Funny enough I actually don't feel bad for the folks who under appreciated the watch. Those who are finally coming around but upset at the current price. (Evil laugh) 😂

You're right. Whenever I wear mine to an AD or amongst watch dudes it always grabs their attention. It's just a cool, classic and completely unpretentious watch. Going up sharply in value too even in this crappy market.

Where do you find the serial number on this watch? ... do you have to open the case back or just remove the bracelet?

Hello the serial number on these is engraved on one of the lugs. Look on the back of the lugs and you will find an 8 digit serial number on one of them.

A good one with papers will set you back between 5-6k NZD by the time you've paid duty and customs etc.so about 5k AUD will be a good budget. You can get scruffy ones for less, with no papers etc.

As someone who owns the 2254 and the Rolex Sub, do you find there is too much crossover? I’m a sub owner, contemplating adding a 2254.

I think it depends on what Sub you compare it to as the Subs of the same generation as the 2254 are very similar in proportion. however more modern Subs since the maxi case feel a lot larger. The 2254 is such a slender thing, but very robust at the same time.

It's hard to say because all of the current Omega sports collection is so thick, and the overall fit is not as good as the early 2000s models. My advice is to find a nice condition one, and put it straight in for a full service and it will come back like a brand new watch, and still cheaper than a current range new model.

@@bavarianwolf3806 Yes the Speedy is also a great option. Personally I think the dial is quite cluttered, plus they are expensive to get serviced, but it's all a matter of personal taste

The 2264.50 is better. Similar looks but aesthetically better due to one less line of text in lower half of dial, and the huge plus of quartz for more accuracy and less servicing cost ! Slightly slimmer case too !

I'm not sure that there is a 'better' between those two models, as it comes down to whether you like quartz or auto, which is very much a personal choice. Quartz is obviously your preference and congratulations!

I had a 2008 model and it was superb. Bought it in Japan and it was like new. But after a few days it started to not feel right when I wore it even though I had long coveted one. I found the lack of taper on the bracelet not to my liking nor did I like the Speedy bracelet aesthetic much when I was wearing the watch. I think I am to used to the jangly old 20-16 bracelets on my sub. Also, I noticed something on the bezel didn't look right to my eye and after a month or two I figured out that I think the bezel font is just a bit to large. The watch kept great time in the 9 months I owned it but after much anguish I couldn't see past these few issues so I sold it on. I still think they look great, they're a the unrivalled Omega SMP gem if you ask me and would recommend one to anyone but, for me on the wrist, it just didn't work out as I had hoped it would. Damn this watch collecting stuff!!

You were definitely spoiled with the Sub as a reference point. I totally feel your anguish, as I've had that with certain other models, when you really want to love it, but can't get past one or two niggly little things.
