Very classy watch presentation. The opening monologue was so touching and respectful to Ed White....

I thought it was essential to address who he was and what he accomplished. He's not Steve McQueen or Paul Newman or some mainstream celebrity. Ed White was more impressive than any pop culture figure, and the watch is really a footnote in an incredible life. Best, Tim

This would be very high on my list of favorite Speedmasters. I own a Zenith A385 Chronomaster Revival I bought through Watchbox about a month ago, it’s stunning and true to the time from which it came. Nice to see Omega putting that lightning in the jar once again. Spectacular.

It's awesome. I suspect we could see some price softening with time, but the new "Ed" likely will remain a watch that sells at list price new or used. Best, Tim

As an owner of a 105.003-65 all I can say is that it is a spectacular watch. I get the allure of the modern re-edition, but for almost the same amount you can have the original.
@the1916companywatchreviews Жыл бұрын
Agreed. That's why I thought it was essential to emphasize in the video that the old and new "Ed" can be bought for similar money used if the buyer is comfortable navigating the vintage market. Best, Tim

It depends on intended use. I have vintage Speedmasters (145.012 forward) but truth be told I’m not as carefree with them till we’ll into .022 territory.

Just a stunning watch, no other way to say it. And the presentation box, along with all the other goodies. I don't own a Speedy....yet...and this would be one to have, IF you could get one from an AD! Thanks Tim, for the presentation.

Thanks, Scott! I was thrilled to see the return of the caliber 321, and I love that this watch is special in every way from the box to the dedicated assembly room. Pricing is a challenge for now, but I suspect it will become less of a factor as years go on and more inventory hits the market. I can't imagine these being worth less than list, but sub-$20K is possible with time. Best, Tim

It's an exciting watch with a great story behind it. Also, it's nice to see a vintage-style Omega that's also built like it would have been in the 1960s. The "one watchmaker, one watch" concept is something rarely seen at Rolex, Omega, and Breitling-level factories. Best, Tim

Fantastic review. I'm just hoping that Omega bring out a steel 42mm 321 Moonwatch.
@the1916companywatchreviews Жыл бұрын
I suspect that in time we'll get one or both of the following: a 44.25mm ceramic case (e.g., DSOTM) caliber 321 and a 42mm model that will succeed the Ed White. The latter is likely to be another historical recreation albeit one of the early Speedmaster Professional models - likely 105.012 - that actually flew with the Apollo missions. Best, Tim
@robynsjp Жыл бұрын
Remember Ed White. Hero with his 2 teammates who perished in the Apollo 1 tragedy. It is for the Apollo heroes we wear 1960s Speedies - 145.022-69 on wrist, 145.012-67 at the bank.

Very much. Space flight was and remains dangerous. After the tragedy with the Titanic submersible, I hope the investment bankers and financiers paying for "space tourism" take a sober look at the costs and benefits. We don't need to lose any more astronauts - public or private - because they were forced to carry around unqualified human cargo in orbit. Best, Tim

Thanks for the great video. What I could not understand is Why 321 is a superior caliber than the new one? Yes, it is collectible, and I can understand. However, should I be a collector? I am pretty sure if Ed White has an opportunity to choose one of them, most probably he would choose the latest version. Sorry for the hard comment . All I want to understand which caliber is the superior ? ( technology point of view ) Kind Regards Levent

New Movement is superior but that isn’t the point of the 321. It’s a work of art and it’s legendary.

Undoubtedly one of the best brands in horological history. The Pateks, Constantins and Piguets (and such like) rise to the top on precious metals and byzantine complications. But Omega sets the overall standard of excellence, in my humble opinion.

Can anyone let me know how does it fare near magnets and scanner at the airport the dealer couldn't answer that and can't find much about this model
@the1916company Жыл бұрын
Probably fine with the airport. I've never had a problem with that on any mechanical watch. As for magnets, it's probably as vulnerable as any watch. The standard Moonwatch is mass produced but now has a silicon hairspring, so that's probably the best bet if you're very concerned about magnetism. Best, Tim

I have a speedy. Along with a planet ocean. My speedy is the iteration before the latest one. So I have the same box and details as this one. Which is now discontinued you don't get the large box. The box is a thing of beauty to be fair. Also all the booklets on the moon landing that go with it. I love the speedy but am now torn with the model. The new version is a master chronometer which mine isn't. So I wish mine kept time as accurate as a master. However as I said the box is great, and I have the hesalite version which is closer to the original. And I prefer it to the sapphire sandwich for this model. Also the original 321 was not a master chrono. So mine is similar to original in that it's hesalite and not the master chrono. But it isn't a 321, doesn't have the dot above 90 which is annoying. I suppose unless your mega rich these differences are what you have to live with and can make it interesting. I just wish it would hold more of its price better. It is without doubt though a gorgeous watch, and if your into space and iconic pieces of that nature like me, I love it when I get back to wearing it.

Respect for Ed White but that's one overrated Speedy considering it's price. Great content as always.
@the1916companywatchreviews Жыл бұрын
I totally respect that. From my perspective, it was necessary to talk about Ed White in the open because he's a US serviceman who died in the line of duty. I think that has to precede the watch review that constantly invokes Ed's name and story. Best, Tim

you cant get it from omega , and buying watches on the grey market is a no no go go (of course)... :}
@the1916companywatchreviews Жыл бұрын
It's safe to say there are few or no grey-market versions of this watch. Used watches aren't grey market. Grey is a term for watches dumped out the back door by dealers at massive discounts and sold at cut-rate prices by non-authorized dealers. That's definitely not happening with a watch that's waitlisted at dealers and selling above list used. The widely-cited definition of a used watch is a watch that had an end user in between the original dealer and the aftermarket dealer. Best, Tim
