Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional With White Lacquer Dial | A Week On The Wrist

Earlier this year, Omega released what was probably the most anticipated Speedmaster - or any "-master," for that matter - in years. The hype was partly pushed by Daniel Craig being spotted in a then-unknown white-dial Speedmaster last fall at an event in New York City, leading to a lot of speculation. After a few agonizing months for Speedy fans, we got a brand new (nearly) fully white-dialed Speedmaster for the first time since 2015's 45th Anniversary "Silver Snoopy" - and this one wasn't a limited edition. It was the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional ref. 310.30.42.50.04.001. And it seems the wait was worth it.

That may be true at boutiques but ADs, at least near me, are still not getting any of them in.

@@ande5460Is it not a boutique-only model anyways? I thought so, and indeed in the boutiques they are quite available. I was told from two different boutiques in Switzerland that the wait would be a matter of a few weeks only.

@@benjzh I am not sure if it is boutique only, the ADs I have talked to had a list and expect to get them eventually. I unfortunately have no boutiques in my state so out of luck unless I take a mini vacation to travel to one.

@@ande5460 my Midwest AD told me the same thing I heard from Boutiques… it’s not a tough get. If your AD is saying more than a few months, go somewhere else. Hell even call a boutique!

I think this is a great generation for the Speedy. The black dial 3861 draws in first time buyers (like me!) who are buying into the Speedy for the first time and want the classic, while the white dial 3861 gives an excuse to old collectors who already have a black Speedy to buy into the newer, dressier generation and to people who never got into the black dial Speedy because it was too businesslike. There's even the MoonSwatch for the kids to play with.

Great video! The new white Speedmaster is a homerun imho, and it’s such a lovely and fun iteration of a classic design that will excite Speedy enthusiasts as well as win new collectors who never warmed up to the original black dial. Watch of the year for me!

This is why they released the white Speedmaster: most people already had a an older moonwatch and did not find the updated 3861 a big enough reason to pull the trigger on a black 3861 moonwatch. The movement wasn’t, the sapphire wasn’t, nor was the bracelet alone. The white aesthetic aspect did. So now everyone can enjoy the new movement and bracelet. This white 3861 “moonwatch” gives everyone a reason to go for the updated one.

There is no wait list at Rolex ADs, just VIP lists.

But how do you get on the VP list without getting on the waitlist several times first? Porsche does the same thing. They’ve become investments. Really annoying for people actually interested in the product itself and have to choose between Rolex to check it off the list, or an objectively better watch for the same price.

I do not particularly like Speedmasters but when I tried the white one on I bought it. It’s fun, wears well and is quite versatile. It was also my first boutique purchase, as most of my other purchases have been of Rolex, which can only be bought in the gray market. It was a good purchasing experience.

Pretty much everybody sees the new white dial and says “oh yea I think I want that”. Same thing with the moonshine gold speedy. This one is a little easier to justify.

Are you sure? I'm waiting for my wimbledon 36mm, and the AD doesn't have any in stock because their deliveries are random, and they don't know what they'll have coming in.

@@melvin_eatspoint is it’s a VIP list, not a wait list. Spend enough at the AD, for example, be a Grey dealer or flipper, or a high roller who buys a ton of jewelry,and you can get anything. I’ve had some success, but I target the less popular models (just got a black dial Explorer 2 which I love, took 3 years from a new AD).

The AD in Glendale, California has at least three of them, and the salesman I dealt with to buy my Breitling Aerospace said that they simply aren’t selling.

The wait list is artificial. It’s identical, apart from the dial. So take the % of the black dial/identiacal version that you are not selling and up the production of the white dial. Ramp up would take a few months and the disruption to the production line relatively minimal

- 3 Hz movement on a 2024 Chronograph... I dont know whether to laugh 😂 or cry 😢 I compensated on my 4 Hz Speedmaster 9904 movement because at least its a Moonphase, and automatic co-axial.

Why? Because of the 42mm diameter? It actually wears much smaller than that, the bracelet being so well integrated and comfortable, and the thickness of the case rather contained. 40mm is the max I like to wear in general, and the speedy sits perfectly for me.
