Being a life long lover of foreign films, I saw *Parasite* early in. When I saw it in the theater, there were only 4 other people in the theater with me. And, let me tell you, all 5 of us were equal parts mesmerized, riveted, laughing, horrified, moved and we all gave it a standing ovation at the end. All 5 of us 🤣This film totally and completely blew me away. THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING. REALLY AN UNBELIEVABLY GREAT MOVIE. A TRUE MODERN MASTERPIECE. It actually reminded me of the very first time I saw Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (who also wrote, directed and produced his film just like Joon Ho did with Parasite). Where I knew I was watching a special film from someone who’s talent, vision, storytelling perspective and execution was unique, and their art was not able to be duplicated (only imitated 🤣). On a level all their own, a masterful level. That their vision is one of a kind. I had that strong of a reaction to it. Because it’s that layered and powerful and masterful. Not only is it the hands down best movie of the year, but one of the greatest films I’ve seen in the past decade; and one of the best films I’ve seen in my lifetime. It💯deserved to win for Best Picture. Actually, it’s one of the few Best Picture winners of recent memory that’s actually an outstanding film. Just didn’t think the stuffy, stuck up Academy would actually give it to Bong Joon Ho as he deserved. But they did. And I was ecstatic. For once, the actual best picture actually won Best Picture.

paradroidx terrific mention! Yes, It was really almost magical to see the influence of Scorcese, both as a person and his films, as it directly impacted a filmmaker when he was young and just starting out, and who has now become a great artist in his own right; standing as a Best Picture winner, paying homage to the person who so many years ago, actually inspired both his art, who he is and who he became. It was a very moving and transcendent moment. You can tell it caught Scorsese completely by surprise and that it was an authentic and genuine moment from the heart, that brought Mr. Scorsese to tears (and me too actually). Everyone in that venue that night felt it too. Which is why they all spontaneously stood and cheered Scorsese for what he’s given over his lifetime, which includes inspiration and influence to whole generations of brilliant artists. Tarantino included. It was a very special moment for many reason. And his heartfelt and genuine appreciation and love for Tarantino for his support was palpable. It was a beautiful thing. Very memorable. One of my fav. Moments ever from the Oscars👍

@rebeccahopkins95224 жыл бұрын
AlyZa I know “Talk To Her” won it in 2002 and I think it happened in the 40’s and 50’s a couple times but I don’t know the movies specifically. Even though it’s happened a few times throughout history, it’s still very rare. Parasite deserved every accolade it received. It’s a modern masterpiece.

When is the last time DGA missed Best Director AND PGA missed Best Picture?
@gule554 жыл бұрын
DGA was in 2013 when they awarded Ben Affleck and PGA was in 2017 for La la land (the year is when the ceremony was held). But if you are refering both at the same time, this year is the first time that happens.

i can’t believe they are talking about diversity and inclusion just because Parasite won. These people are missing the point. Parasite clearly deserves the win. It is simply the best movie of the year.
@davy2094 жыл бұрын
It’s important because, yes Parasite is the best movie last year, with hopefully with this win, Hollywood would invest more money in distributing Asian films rather than make shitty remakes based on Asian films (Ghost in the Shell and The Ring were disasters)!

I am not a huge expert on sound editing vs sound mixing but I would think a war movie with gunshots etc would be suited more for sound editing while a movie that emphasizes more on volume like Ford vs ferrari would go for mixing.

Ok tell us what the difference between sound editing and sound mixing is
@DavidBaruffi4 жыл бұрын
@@65g4 Sound Editing is the capturing and creating of sounds. That covers everything from effects to ambiance and dialogue and everything that you hear in a movie. Sound Mixing, is taking those sounds and refining and tuning and mixing them in order to best fit the movie, it's determining how we hear the sounds essentially.
@65g44 жыл бұрын
@@DavidBaruffi thanks ive always wanted to know that
@BigSleepyOx4 жыл бұрын
I'd rather just have a "Best Sound" category, like BAFTA, and both the sound mixers and editors would accept the award. Similar to how for Best Production Design, both the head of Production Design and head of Set Decoration accept the award. The sound categories are already so "specialized" that the public doesn't care, and it seems like it often gives a movie two awards for one thing. I mean, we could split "Best Production Design" into "Best Production Design" and "Best Set Decorations". And We could split "Best Hair and Makeup" into, well, "Best Hair" and "Best Makeup". Have to draw the line somewhere, and I've long felt that the Sound category is on the wrong side of the line.

Gold Derby no more. This puts this entire predicting thing a goner. Stats dont matter anymore. Just go with the movies you feel deserve it more than the others then root for it. Thats how it should be.
@BigSleepyOx4 жыл бұрын
No, this makes predicting all the better. If we just wanted a stat counter, we could write a computer program to do that, and just spit out a predicted winner. But now the predictions and reasons behind then will be a lot more interesting. Indeed, those that predicted Parasite were a lot more interesting to listen to than those that predicted 1917, because the latter just cited "stats". lol

The Academy is finally “woke”? They are still not woke to recognizing Horror as a legitimate art form and the performances within, when they are extraordinary, are worthy of nominations and wins. Because if they were fully “woke”, Toni Collette would have won for Hereditary. Instead, this outstanding film and its actors were completely and totally snubbed.
@rebeccahopkins95224 жыл бұрын
M. N. I’m not talking about all horror films as art, I’m talking about superb horror films that transcend the genre. There are good movies and crap movies in every genre. Here I’m talking about the best of the best. It’s extremely difficult to make a great and transcending horror film. In my opinion it’s the most difficult genre to do well, and it’s about time the Academy started recognizing that. You state they Don’t watch horror films? Then they have missed out on some superb films, including Psycho, Audition, Rosemary’s Baby, The Sixth Sense, Pan’s Labyrinth, Misery, The Others, The Shining, The Silence Of The Lambs, Get Out and yes, HEREDITARY. How very bland and limited of them. You know, not so long ago, some films were dismissed by the Academy as nothing more than “comic book movies”. Fast forward a bit-“Dark Knight”, “Black Panther” and “Joker” ring any bells? Also, not that long ago, cussing, homosexuality and nudity in films was shunned, shamed and discarded by serious film critics. Then The 70’s happened, Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Polanski happened, Last Tango In Paris happened, Brokeback Mountain happened, and they and it changed film and what was considered great film making forever. Now you can hardly imagine a great film that doesn’t have at least an element of that grit, realness, and grime in it. The very fact that someone labels and dismisses something before even seeing it is exactly the prejudice and snubbing I’m speaking of. A closed perspective has historically never yielded anything very noteworthy, spectacular or of value and has never made a difference in anything or propelled a medium forward anywhere. Art should make you uncomfortable, it should make you confront your fears, it should make you think and ponder, recognize and sympathize with humanity and feel the perils of loss and the panic of confronting the unknown. Nothing does that better than a superbly executed horror film. Hereditary is a spectacular film, and does this in every way. It’s so much more than just “horror”, it’s a tide of loss, regret, familial strain and uncertainty; it’s a film about the human experience of grief. It’s a film about the human condition. And Toni Collette’s performance in it is extraordinary, the best performance of the year. Above worthy of at least a nomination. Not the snubbing she received. If you’ve not seen it, I highly recommend that you do. Don’t limit yourself. Open your mind to a new experience, it might just give a new perspective and a new art form to enjoy. A good movie is a good movie. It’s really about excellence not genre. That’s all the Academy should look at. Excellence. Not genre. And here’s hoping that someday so called “horror” films join the elevated ranks of “comic book” movies and the once called “smutty” movies.

Ridiculous that Parasite, which won Best Foreign Film, was in the running for Best Picture. I could go along with it winning if IT WAS IN ENGLISH, not just english subtitles. This is about taking the PC culture to the extremes. And Brad Pitt winning demonstrates that the acting skill has deteriorated to the point that an over acting actor can now win an Oscar. He played a caricature of an uneducated white boy in Hollywood.
