Everytime someone reacts to I need you, they make the same assumptions and i faceplam so hard. Although i understand it's what is expected normally from ppl fed on boy-girl love and break up themed songs mostly. I am proud that i never assumed this general love equation and realized it was more of friendly companionship they are talking about, even when i was newly introduced to bts. There are many more such bts songs, locals would think as normal love songs but they are not and that's the best part of being ARMY, you know they are deeper and more meaningful than that 😁

The lyrics of this song has nothing to do with the storyline actually... To simplify it, each of the boys were having a hard time of their own but when they're together, they can at least enjoy the moment and forget their problems... To identify which one is who: 1. Suga was in the burning room. 2. Jimin was in the bath tub. 3. J-Hope passed out/fell asleep(narcolepsy) on the bridge. 4. Jungkook was beaten up by the two guys on the street. 5. Jin was holding the 6 flower petals (referring to the other 6 members) 6. RM was working in the gas station. 7. V (Taehyung) stabbed his father for abusing him and his sister.

I‘ve never been the type of person who is a „hugh fan“ of any celebrity out there. Of course I have my favorite musicians, but I never felt the need to stay updated for anyone until I found out about BTS. I believe it is because they are so creative with the content they put out and their lyrics always have a deeper meaning to them, which I can identify with. The fact that they write and produce nearly every song is so inspiring to me.

Hey Flo: I remember this journey into BTS well. It's amazing. You'll have so many thoughts about WHY? something happened. BTS makes you think. It's not some brainless music video or lyrics. To me they said through this music video, that we don't know what's happening in others lives. Things may seem okay on the surface but they're not. That when you're with your friends you can forget about your troubles, if only for a brief moment. There is so much symbolism in this video. The thing in real life I love about BTS is that their BOND is STRONG with each other. They take care of each other and it was not easy for them at all. BTS started at rock bottom. Because they didn't have money. They didn't come from a big Agency. They didn't have the advantages that all other groups have. The had to work twice as hard as others. I believe because of their own struggles, is why they put out such: meaningful, deep, thoughtful lyrics/music & music videos. We are here for you if you have any questions.

The lyrics haven't anything to do with the music video. But for everyone new to BTS I think it is normal to try to connect the lyrics and the video. Getting to know BTS you will see that these guys have a lot to say and it is right from their hearts. The storyline is about growing up and maturing. They are talking about the struggles you face while growing into an adult...the temptations you encounter and how important it is to have loving people by your side. These music videos are complex and very metaphor and symbol based. Sometimes you have to watch a video several times to catch up on everything that connects with the other videos. A lot of symbols are recurring...like water for Jimin and fire for Suga... There is not an official explanation for the storyline. They left it open for interpretation...what is getting everyone hooked and it makes it a lot more relatable.

In my opinion, this MV shows particular moments of their difficulties but also shows the happiness moments of the guys when they are together. They have other personal problems with family, with depression, with chemical dependency, old traumas and panic, in addition to his break with his girls. They have particular strugles but when to meet themselves they has happy moments. To me, this is the reason that MV shows us such bipolarity. Some MVs may have its own story, beyond the story line.

The girl is actually not a girl, the lyrics are deep but they don't have to do anything with the story line. The girl here is referring to happiness and friends. When all 7 members are together, they are happy, when they are alone, they are feeling pain and depression and trying to suicide, kill, and get killed. Jin, the protagonist of the story line travels in time to save the members.

They do a great job in this MV to introduce you to the complex storyline, showing each of the boys' struggles and issues (the song's lyrics can be attributed to the storyline if you take it allegorically, and not them literally singing about a girl - a general rule about BTS songs - unless there's an actual girl, it's never about a significant other - and even when there IS a girl in the music video, she can be symbolic for something else (or even a representation for ARMY)): - RM - poor, works at a gas station where he's treated like so much garbage, smokes (if you notice, when he drops the lollipop, it's actually a lit cigarette) - Jin - in an empty, but clearly nice, house/space, flower/petal motif, mysterious, going through some sort of guilt/depression - Suga - in a motel room, missing someone, contemplating and then setting fire to his space, with himself still in it, welcoming being consumed by flames - Hobi - taking pills, collapses on the side of the highway - Jimin - burning a photo, sinking under the water, seeming to drown himself in the tub - V - abusive father, finds him beating his sister, stabs him with a broken beer bottle (one of MANY beer bottles - alcoholic father) - Jungkook - seeks out confrontation, welcomes being beat up, makes no effort to stop it, ends with him crossing the street and headlights flashing up on him (getting hit by a car) They were friends, they were clearly happy and joyful together, but something has happened. They are all alone, and their lives are falling apart. They've all become depressed, welcoming death, pain, numbness, self-destruction. As a side note, in Korea, they have laws forbidding the depiction of people using knives in aggression, smoking, or child abuse, so you will often see the objects either blurred, or transformed (like into a lollipop) while in use. It is also why they have the 19+ tag, so people understand they will be seeing such images, as well as possible violence or sexually themed content. Not necessarily to prevent minors from viewing it - with internet, that's just about impossible to do - but as a warning of what may be seen. (I tried to avoid adding any theories, merely stating what you can see during the course of the video, so the interpretation can be left up to the listener/viewer. I personally think it's really interesting how BTS plays with the language. If you pay attention, the parts in English are mostly meant for the general audience, having more "empty" or comercial meanings, while korean parts get into deeper messages that would probably be harder to sell if public was able to hear them without actually being interested.

So happy you started diving into their storyline. To make it less confusing, try watching explanation videos of their MV's. As you go into their songs/videos, it would be more confusing but believe me it gets more beautiful each time. The amount of work they put into their craft is just amazing

Recently found you, I love your enthusiasm for BTS. South Korea has the highest suicide rate in the world. There culture has difficulty talking about this, and many other things. BTS is trying to get their culture and all the world to talk about many tabu subjects. They are a wonderful representative of reality. The only way to grow is to face the struggles of life.
