The contralto voice is so unique and beautiful, and Diana Ankudinova's voice is the finest one I have ever heard. But she is so much more. Her connection with the music and lyrics is so obvious in everything she sings. Her range is wider than any contralto I have ever heard of. "Dramatic Contralto" is one name for such a voice, but, again, it is so much more. Hypnotic and stunning, evoking emotions with an amazing control. A true siren. I type because she leaves me speechless. Thanks so much.

One of my favorites by her is from the "Show Mask Go On" entitled "Oh' It's Not Yet Evening" kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZe3moShf9d_n5I. It's an over 300 year old folk song about a Cossack warrior who dreams of his death in an imminent battle. On Diana's face you see sadness, anxiety and pain of the soul of the Cossack warrior. One would swear she borrowed that soul to perform the song. I'm not sure how many people appreciate the emotional gasps she produces here that absolutely melt me.
