Here is the statistical/mathematical rules to keep or not to keep the kicker: In long term, statistically could be proven that if the ratio of the prize with kicker (assume X) to the prize without kicker (assume Y) is more than 2.5 times then only in long term it is to your advantage to keep the kicker. Otherwise do not keep the kicker. X/y > 2.5 keep X/Y< 2.5 don’t keep. X/Y~=2.5 neutral(long term won’t make difference). Hope this helps

I've been playing video poker since it was invented in the 1970's and I've found I hit more low card with a kicker or aces with a kicker hands when i just keep the 3 of a kind. Will there be times when you'll it it holding the kicker? Sure. Will there be times when you'll miss it when you don't hold the kicker like in this video? Of course. But overall there's been more times holding the kicker would have made me miss winning the jackpot hand because the 4th ace or 4th low card was the second card to come out, after another kicker, on the draw.

Don't beat yourself up over the tossed kicker. The RNG was cycling like it always does, the milliseconds difference from hitting 3 hold buttons vs. 4 would have changed the draw. Be happy, VERY happy, that you nailed a superfine payout. Good job, dude!

I usually hold it with Aces, but most of the time, it's not with the 2,3, or 4's. 9 out of 10 times I don't get it. Of course, this time, I should have held it. Gambling is a tough game.
