BB King and Aretha Franklin were Chris Stapletons biggest idles growing up, he said in an interview. Please check out the tribute to Prince he did the day Prince died. It's kinda like Man's World, he didn't really have time to prepare. Chris had a scheduled show and heard of Princes untimely death, and felt he needed to cover a song that night. 🙏

Chris has many songs that are "country" many have the steel guitar in it. But songs with a single guitar or this where its a simple 3 piece band, lead guitar, bass & drums. This is blues, pure & simple. The main riff on this was butter smooth. The bass player and drummer were awesome, all three did a great job taking ques off each other.

Edit: Stapleton was a member of The Steeledrivers before he blew up. A great bluegrass band. You should check out a song or two. 1 of these 3 songs might be cool. 1. Devil when down to Memphis 2. Where rainbows never die. 3. Angel of the night. Silk Sonic and Christ Stapleton are the two best things going in music. These three men are insane. It’s like they can’t make bad music.

Unfortunately artists are put into genres but this dude is definitely soul/blues. The one thing that DOESN'T make him country is there's no fake country accent anywhere to be found. When you have natural talent there's no need to over compensate with a fake country accent.
@artfanism2 жыл бұрын
He should not have a label put on him, he could win multiple different awards for best album in many genre's for the same album. He's as good as God made him, he can do anything, he is powerful enough.

He’s country... just because he doesn’t empathize on his southern background... doesn’t mean he ain’t country!
@davidroseman49172 жыл бұрын
@@lizpedano1542 he doesn't emphasize a southern accent is because he actually has vocal talent. No need to sound like everyone else when he can actually sing

He’s country bc there aren’t huge blues radio stations/award shows/tv channels like there are for country. If you’re name isn’t BB and you want to make REAL money playing the blues you have to either ride the country or the rock fence. Kinda sucks, but if you’re a blues artist and you aren’t struggling playing hole in the wall juke joints then how authenticity blues can you be. If I I’m listening to the blues I want to be somewhere no one has heard of listening to a guy that could be my granddad who no one has heard of who’s laying his soul on the stage to pay his bar tab. That’s the blues.

I'm back to re-watch a bunch of your reactions (including, naturally, Chris) and since you mentioned his reminding you, in his guitar playing, of B.B. King, I felt moved to add that shortly after you said that, he moved into what seems to me like he's as steeped in Chuck Berry's playing as he is in B.B. King's. Gotta say, I was right there with you in your reaction, moment by moment, as much this time as I was the first time, even saying to Chris, "Go ahead, let that guitar sing for you/say it all for you" at the same time you out with something along the same lines. I even laughed at the same point in his prolonged back-and-forth notes on the guitar...the man is just relentless with that drive...and that bass player ain't too shoddy neither. When I listen to Chris, I begin to think it wasn't only Robert Johnson made that deal with the devil.
