For all the new professional drivers out there, this is genuine advice from a driver of 15 years. 1. Keep a large stopping distance from the vehicle infront of you. If you feel like you have enough space from the car in front of you, you dont, give at least 3 more car lengths on top. 2. If you see something ahead of you do something, don't assume that it won't become your problem 3. Semi truck tires are rated for 75 mph cruise speed on non recapped tires with half tread depth or more. If recapped dont cruise faster then 70mph 4. Easy way to tell if your on ice. If The roads look wet The temperature is 34 or below and there isnt any water spraying up from the tires of passing cars you are on ice and need to exit the freeway immediately. It isnt worth it. 5. DON'T GET EMOTIONAL BEHIND THE WHEEL You are driving a 40 ton death machine, a flick of the wrist can kill someone 6. Buy a gladhand air hose at any truckstop, it'll be the best money you'll ever spend.

I see a lot of preventable accidents, if you're a truck driver than put the phone away, and pay attention to the road, I started driving in 1989 and it ended in 1995 then I started again in 2005 and finally quit for good in 2016, I put in over 2,000,000 miles and had no accidents, the tickets I got was for over hours, obstructing traffic, that one I was passing another truck, and it was stay in the passing lane or crash two trucks, and I got one for being in a no truck area, that according to the GPS I had to go down to make the pickup, and I can say the drivers today have it easy, when we had paper logs you drove illegally or you got fired, been there, with Elogs if you drive illegally the DOT will catch you when they do an audit, so you have to drive legal, and dispatch can't force you to drive illegally
