I love your take at 19:34. I also feel like nobody was necessarily at fault here, since we can understand each character's motivation/perspective. I also love your explanation about Lois' reluctance to trust Clark after his secrets were out. I never even thought about Lois as a traumatized woman with trust issues due to her relationship with her father.
@elisa4620

I think that there is a difference between "understandable" and "not at fault". While it is important to understand where Lois comes from she was still very much at fault and got out of line. She should have never forced Clark to come out the way she did. And her anger was unreasonable and hypocritical. She also got off too easy. But at least she is learning to be better.

What I really love about this take is that they're very much emphasizing Clark Kent as the real identity and the driving force behind Superman. I've always thought that's been the best way to handle it; not Superman disguising himself as a meek bespectacled human, but Clark Kent putting on a flashy costume and changing his looks a bit to use his powers openly in public while still keeping his personal life secure with himself and those he comes to trust with the secret. "Superman is what I can do. Clark is who I am."

We all knew that Jimmy would find out just because of the intro with all three of them at Clarks "Fortress" and he's taking his glass off at the end. I would have been surprised that Jimmy didn't figure it out since he is Clark's roommate. Grodd was my call from the end shot of the last episode and I didn't think there was someone else with him. They've got to spit out General Lane's name at some point. He'll probably break away from Waller before she starts up her Suicide Squads. I want to see Clark and Lois' reactions when they find out that her dad is partly responsible for this chaos. Then I'm sure that teh General will explain those flashbacks the Clark keeps having.

Glad to see that the trouble with Clark and Lois didn't get dragged out for longer than a couple episodes. I had a feeling it wouldn't be and get resolved here, but I'm glad that I was right all the same and that they were able to get things ironed out once Lois and Jimmy heard Clark's side of the story, understanding while also reassuring him and coming together again through it. I've always thought Clark and Lois were at their best when both were open with each other about his life as Superman and on the same page about it, and I'm happy to see that we've finally gotten to the beginnings of that point, especially so comparatively soon.

@@FeliDJrah From what I understand of Invincible, Amber only came back after Mark almost got killed by Omni-Man. Okay, so Ep1 gave us Evangelion-like robots, and this episode has robots that give off a Gurren Lagann vibe. Nice! And those robots chasing Lois and Clark were OMACs. It was suspicious when all of Jimmy's pictures from Ep 1 were inexplicably blurry, so I suspected he already knew and deleted a few pics. Ep 4 threw me off a little though, because if he knew and was covering, why did he advocate for / give Lois the tabloids? Either he saw those tabloids as a wild goose chase... which would be very out of character for Jimmy to think... or he meant to give Lois a legit tip, which contradicts him honoring Clark's secret. (Also his assumption in this episode that Clark told Lois implies that he wasn't intentionally helping her, since it suggests the idea of her figuring it out on her own didn't cross his mind) Regardless, another solid episode. My only real critique is the same as usual... the shifting character dynamics among the 3 have been pretty rushed, the show has gotten a TON out of less granted, and the excellent character writing and performances have done a lot to quell that issue, but other then ClarkXLois, none of the inner dynamics or the trio as a whole have been established well enough to make the "We're a family and we love each other the most in the entire world" moments (like 14:24) completely earned, as wholesome and sweet as they are. I suspect they wanted to get to this current point of the narrative as quickly as possible. The story they want to tell. I think the real show has just begun. (Edit: Paragraph Spacing and a time stamp example)

Maybe Jimmy was taking advantage of the opportunity to have someone else take interest in his interests? It could also be 'forced homework' prep for this very episode (maybe), since he thinks this is area 52 or something, right? So in terms of identifying Clark as Superman- wild goose chase, yes. In character terms maybe he's encouraging Lois to think outside the box a bit; and lets be fair he's been right about the French Gorilla, and this creepy wood, and that Superman is an alien: so ... in this universe he's got an edge above real life conspiracy theorists ...
@theapologist6717
@theapologist6717 Жыл бұрын
@@EBirchall1 That makes complete sense! "He takes them seriously, but didn't think anything useful about Clark would be in them, so he took that chance to get a friend into the things he's into" Arguably, that's a bit of a reckless assumption on Jimmy's part, but not out of character, especially in the face of finally getting some validation about his theories. That checks out, Thanks!

I am of the theory that a part of superman‘s ship broke on reentry, and that’s how the government ended up getting all that special tech that Cadmus had. They might even work in the possibility that Lois’ mom got sick from something caused by the tech. Might be another reason the general really hates Superman
@dgmilloway
@dgmilloway Жыл бұрын
I have a theory. That technology is not Kryptonian. The tech is designed to *kill* Kryptonians. No, It's the tech of the enemy that destroyed Krypton and then followed Clark's escape ship, finally catching up and engaging near earth, where they shot each other down. That tech was hostile to Earth forces and killed a lot of people. Clark's craft crashed and hid. The general just assumes they are from the same faction.

Theory: I think Zod is responsible all the Kryptonian that fallowed Clark to Earth. Maybe there was a civil war on Krypton like in MoS, and when Jor-El sent Clark away there was a pursuit force that fallowed (macguffin in the ship or Zod's pride or whatever). So Prediction, I think we'll get a teaser of Zod and the end of this season, and season 2 will focus on the Kryptonians.

There was a short story I once read in an anthology of superhero fiction. A Superman type character was explaining to his version of Lois that, while he looked and acted human, he was still an alien and it was largely an act. He couldn't eat normal human food (he nearly died as a child before his parents figured out what he could eat), Earth's atmosphere was tolerable but uncomfortable, and he found humans physically repugnant on an instinctive level. He told her that while they could be friends, any sort of romance was completely out of the question.

Clark was not wrong for keeping this secret. It was to protect himself and it had no impact on Lois life. He shouldn't have had to be the one to apologize. I truky understand where Lois comes from. I understand her doubts and trust isuues. But many the things she did and said were not OK at all (and very hypocritical given all her own lies, schemes and secrets). And she should have apologized properly. At least she can and will learn to be a better person. That said, it IS nice that they didn't drag the secret for too long. And it was heartwarming to have Jimmy reveals he already knew but wanted to wait until Clark was ready to tell him. Mala and Brain were... entertaining 😂

Awesome reaction love that they didn’t drag on with the relationship drama and thought it was resolved realistically when you’re actually friends and mad at each other a lot of times a simple conversation sharing perspectives will resolve it like it did here. Lois was genuinely scared he was faking his feelings for her and once she saw he clearly wasn’t her anger dissipated. With Amber she wasn’t mad that mark didn’t like her she was legitimately just mad that he was a hero.

While not a good as the previous episode, I think that this was a good episode. It was a decent way to repair the rift between Clark, Lois, and Jimmy. Apparently the ape was Mallah, which was a possibility but not one I considered above the possibility of the ape being ultra humanite. Mallah and the brain not being villains in this continuity is surprising, yet they provide an interesting foil for Jimmy and Clark to an extent. For Clark in particular, they show what it's like to not be accepted, as well as them connecting with task force X. It does seem like the concept of red sun radiation is introduced in this episode and may even explain why the robots of task force X were able to hurt Clark. I was surprised that Jimmy knew that Clark was Superman and found that he was more mature than Lois by how he dealt with knowing the secret. Jimmy didn't confront Clark about his secret and waited for Clark to be ready to tell him, but I feel that Jimmy knowing the truth means he should not be as mad at Clark as he was, since him standing Jimmy up could be because Superman was helping people. I was also annoyed that Lois was mad that Jimmy didn't tell her Clark's secret and Jimmy thinking Clark told Lois before telling him. It's Clark's secret and he had to tell them on his terms. What I wasn't annoyed about was that Lois had doubts about how Clark felt about her. Clark put those doubts to rest by shielding Lois from blast shots while his powers are weakening and not knowing he's bullet proof. Clark revealing his own personal fears definitely feels like something he needed to do to repair the issues he had with Lois and Jimmy. It makes the relationship of the trio better than before. Clark learns more about his connection with the tech and is more aware of task force X, but it seems that there's more for Clark to learn. I hope Clark learns more about his connection with Krypton. I am more convinced that the general is Lois' father and hope that Clark and Lois can eventually convince him that Superman isn't a threat. The general does have some integrity as shown in the previous episode.

General lane is a is very bad father to Lois but I see were he is coming from instead of thinking about his daughter‘s mental health he chose the world to protect

Thing is, sometimes people have a job that honestly makes having a family very difficult. I'm pretty sure that General Lane doesn't want to be estranged from his daughter (if his attempts at calling her in episode 4 are any indication), and it probably tears him up inside to keep her in the dark, but it's also for her protection. It's almost certainly the same with Lois' mom and why he kept that from her too. Sure, it hurt her when she found out... but at the same time she was likely still just a kid, and what was he supposed to tell 10 year old Lois "Oh by the way your mom is dying. Have a good day at school~" Parents are still humans, even though I know a lot of children these days pretend they're not. They don't always make the right choice or decision, and most of them are flying by the seat of their pants and trying to figure things out as they go along just like the rest of us, and on top of that they have the burden these days of knowing that if they f**k up in any way their children will happily blast their utter failure all over social media and forever use them as their excuse for having never accomplished anything. So yeah, these days it sucks to be a parent. Given General Lane's actions in Episode 5, with him immediately standing down once civilians were in danger and standing up to Waller, he's a good person trying to do the right thing for the world he lives on... even if it means his own relationship with his daughter will suffer in the process. I can't honestly fault him for that.

One other bit to consider in all this... General Lane pushed his daughter to have survival skills because he believes an alien invasion is imminent and she would likely need those skills to be able to survive.

great reaction, loved the commentary. i did like the chemistry between all three of them, between Clark, Jimmy and Lois and how they were able to patch up their friendship and having the relation between Lois and Clark now back to being open again, well i assume its back to them being in that flirting stage. also, weird thought i have is that Lois's father might be the general. if that is the case I wonder what his reaction might be to know that Lois's might be dating Clark. though I could be wrong and Lois father and the general are two separate people. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@mysteryman1834 Yeah, I get that, but they have Amanda waller who's responsible for the suicide squad, which Death stroke is occasionally a part of in the comics. Also, just because I've said this along with the Grodd being a flash villain doesn't mean I'm not against the idea of more superhero shows being set in this Superman universe actually I think that would be awesome

@BaithNa ok. My mistake on my part. I know he's usually a teen titans villain though it's tough nowadays cause I've seen him as a green arrow, justice league, batman, teen titans, nightwing and even superman villain now. Teen titans probably is a better comparison though; I just chose one I thought would be ok.

I love that they are FastTracking Lois and Jimmy knowing Clark is Superman. In the comics they have an 18 years old after being aged up 7 years cuz plot. We all know they end up together. We know Jimmy is his best pal. Let's get to it. So we can have more interesting plot than the boring old "oh she almost found out" tropes. The set up is definitely heading to a face off between Superman and General Lane with Lois having to save superman. Mandy(waller) will take over Task Force X and voila Suicide Squad next season!

Its Ivo/Parasite. My guess is with access to the Cadmus facility he's going to either create Amazo or since this show is switching things up maybe Bizarro or Superboy. Brain mentioned that cadmus didn't do robots but they were very much into genetic experiments.

Amber knew for most of the time which meant she chewed Mark out for saving her life and not smooching her, or something. Lois didn’t know until a bit ago and he never saved her without us knowing that Lois knew so there was no “oh… Lois was just a b!tch in episode 2” she felt lied to and wanted to cut that sh!t out so she could feel safe. Once she knows that Clark just lied about this one thing that he felt endangered his life (which makes sense) she’s much more chill about it.
