My dr just ordered me the omnipod and I’m currently on the 670G also. Was the best thing out there when I got it. I’m so ready to move on! I’m so sick and tired of getting woken up in the middle of the night. I have learned to ignore it which isn’t ideal. I’m about ready to throw it out the window. Been on the Medtronic since 3/2018. I got diagnosed T1D at age 34 a year before I got the Medtronic. My brother got diagnosed at age 27, he is on year 12. Our father was diagnosed the same age you were diagnosed at. I’m also scared I will leave the controller behind too!!! But so excited to get this brick off my body!

Wow, that is a really unique diabetic story your family has. Thanks for sharing! Really interesting the differing diagnosis years I totally agree with your analysis of the Medtronic system, and the 670g was also the best things in my eyes, around when I got it around 2019! I'm glad that I made the leap and got the Omnipod system. What types of systems do your brother and father have? Are they part of the reason you decided to switch?

@@Type1Mind hey!!! Sorry I’m just getting to reply! My brother was pump free until about maybe 3 years ago. He is currently on the Tandem T-Slim and the Dexcom G6. He’s had excellent luck with it. He is a more brittle diabetic with other health issues. But I’m so proud of him. He actually did a few weeks on the Appalachian Trail this past summer. He was well known for being out there even with his setbacks. Got sent back home because he broke his foot. He’s having surgery next month to get it back to as normal as possible. My father unfortunately passed away unexpectedly of DKA. It’s will be 6 years later this month. He had fallen ill and was alone. He was a brittle diabetic also, but he had issues with lows. Never expected this. He was energetic, and so full of life. He was my best friend, and I miss him every single day. He was only 57. Dad was on the old insulins (R and N) and would mix them in regular syringes. Said he would get a bionic pancreas when it was invented! I was at work the morning I got the call. I had just gotten the email that my Medtronic had shipped out after 6 months of fighting with the insurance company. I honestly had given up. It was such a new technology that it took a while for approval. Dad was at my place most the time. I remember the last time I had an interaction with my insurance company. I was very frustrated and upset. He was here, and told me I needed to be patient. He was not a patient person himself, so I was surprised at his response. lol! Anyways, I have it in my heart this dang pump was his last gift to me ❤️

Your video here made me even more confident in my decision. I have watched many recently. I’m essentially making the same transition as you did. I got my Dexcom system last Friday and I should have my pods Thursday. The regional rep for Maine reached out earlier today over text which was awesome and unexpected! The reason for my switch is I know there are better options. I’ve had this Medtronic for almost 6 years. It was between the Tandem (what my brother has) or the Omnipod. Tandem has a small system (Mobi) but not available for me yet, and people like my brother would be eligible first. But another thing I like about Omnipod is that there is no long term commitment. I can change to another system if it doesnt work out. But I really hope it does! This is awkward, but it’s possible I could be starting this journey on the anniversary of Dads farewell!

I felt angry when I heard that you had to spend hours on the phone for the insurance approval of all these insulin pump supplies. You shouldn't have to.....our horrible healthcare system ....Anyway, I'm glad that you sorted it all out and you're on the Omnipod 5 now! I am also a new Omnipod 5 user and I love it very much. It's a lot more convenient than the MDI therapy. Keep on sharing videos with us! 🙂

Thanks so much for your comment -- the experience was horrible and one that I hope no other diabetic has to go through, but know that that's unfortunately not the case :( I think its a combination of our healthcare, unempathetic insurance companies, and the lack of doctors who genuinely care about their patients. I'm glad you are liking your Omnipod 5 as well, it's definitely been a good experience for me as well~

I live in Germany where we have a good healthcare system and it took me 9 months to get the approval. Countless calls, emails and visits at my doctor’s. Horrible

PREACH! My son & I cannot stand the low alarms on the DEXCOM. Interrupts school - class all the time!

Totally - I understand that the alerts are there for safety, but the inability to silence them does stress me out with all the interruptions it causes!

My Dr. Just ordered my Ominpod, I was on Medtronic for couple of years and hated how inaccurate and false alarms in middle of night ruined my experience. Here and lots of good things about this new system. Looking forward to trying it out. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing as well! I agree that my experience with Omnipod has been more accurate and reliable than with Medtronic so far. My numbers are more predictable and I don't have to worry about CGM readings that are off.

That’s why I don’t want to wear an insulin pump due to the inaccuracy and I feel it’s dangerous. I’d rather die or overdose on insulin! You all are dumb I want to see this machines so we go back to the old ways

I had THE worst experiences with Medtronic’s closed loop system. Inaccurate sensor, unnecessary calibrations, sensors that don’t adhere, obnoxious alerts and alarms. Everything about it was difficult and frustrating. I submitted for omnipod in August and I’m told I’m finally going to be getting my first order next week. Fingers crossed this system is better for us all!!!

@@haleyburns929 I’ve been on the system for little over a month and I asking my self why I waited so long. This system is liberating and so easy to use. You’ll love it more if you’re active and on the move. Good luck.

Thanks for sharing this video. Just learned my teenaged nephew was diagnosed with Type I diabetes and I’m in the process of educating myself about current insulin delivery technologies. Your presentation gives me a lot of encouragement!

Wow, that is so great you’ve taken it upon yourself to research. I’m sure your nephew will be really appreciative of your care! If you or your nephew have any questions or just want support during this time feel free to comment and connect anytime. It’s gotta be a difficult and overwhelming time for your family right now, but just know you will get through it and it isn’t as bad as it seems at all!!!

@@Type1Mind As you alluded, I get that sense that it won’t be as scary or difficult as my initial thoughts led me to believe. On a plus side, he’s a very disciplined young guy who does very well in school. And he has already taken on an attitude that this is just one more challenge to overcome. He isn’t distraught (even though his mother seems to be). Please accept my thanks for being so generous in helping with questions I might have in the future. You’re very kind! 🙂

Add an Apple Tag to the back of your pump. And active it to alert you when it’s not near your phone. It doesn’t always remind me, and that’s apples fault, but it has helped me from leaving it places. And I can normally find it!

I’m about to start trial for omnipod 5… have you figured out a way to silence most of the alarms ? From my understanding the only ones you can’t silence are the ones on pod and the urgent low?? I have been on tandem tslim for last 4 years and I do like it but have been on tubed pumps for almost 18 years now and ready to try omnipod now that it can communicate with dexcom… thanks for the video

I’ve only been using the pump for a few months so this is all just based on my experience so far -- Unfortunately, yeah, I don’t think there’s a way to silence the urgent low alarm. It will beep on my pod, PDM, and phone once it hits the BG level 50 I believe. The alarm for pod ending also cannot be silenced, I believe. It’s frustrating and honestly pretty inconvenient sometimes (at work, quiet settings, etc.). However, the pros of omnipod have definitely outweighed that con for me. Let me know if you have any more questions and good luck with your trial!

I have had Omni pod for 8-9 years. You can go to settings, reminders, and turn off some of those notifications. That will make it better for use if you don’t like loud alarms. I personally keep mine on for low insulin in pod and 8 hour expiration because I need the reminders. It’s all up to your personal preferences.
