Calling this kvass gave me, a Ukrainian, a stroke. Kvass is made from rye bread. It's not fruity in the slightest, it's strong and overwhelmingly earthy. This is like a compote which you're too cheap to boil. Calling this kvass is like tossing some cucumbers in rum for a week and saying you just made lemonade.

You can most certainly make fruit kvass....it's not uncommon for families to make traditional and other varieties if kvass, including fruit, beet, and technically mushroom (it's really kombucha, but my inlaws call it kvass, so that's what I call it too). Hell, you can buy fruit kvass from Russian stores and (mostly) internationally online. And I'd more compare this drink to a fizzy, low alcohol content: kompot, mors, thin vzvar, fruit incorporated medovukha, or, ya know, just fucking fruit kvass, specifically melon berry kvass.

There’s only (one) drawback to this approach; the likelihood that some naive person would take it to be (correct), and safe, and possibly damage their body (permanently) because they didn’t know better. Although I know it's sketchy and I won't drink it, fermented fruit drinks make me feel a hint of nostalgia. When I was a kid in the 80s in Vermont, community centers and after-school programs and girl scouts would get the same donations that the local emergency food pantries got. Being in Vermont, that meant there was often apple cider. It wasn't until an event when my mom went and she heard us say the cider was prickly and she tried some, did we find out us kids had been inadvertently drinking hard cider for some time! 😅
