"When I get more time" Me too buddy. I just dove into my box of parts for my G0765 and the receipts are from 2017-2018 for the parts. I was doing a centroid cnc conversion on it at the time and "got busy". I'm glad these videos are still here. Doesn't seem like it was so long ago. I hope all is well.

Awesome...This is the encoder I purchased for my mini lathe. I appreciate the mount files. Just now finishing up new enclosure for our mini lathe and will be adding encoder next. Thank you.

Cool. I'm glad you found it helpful.

Nice post. To see how well it works, rigid tap or do threading on it. Then re-run the cycle. One concern is hanging a pulley or gear right on that encoder. I don't believe it was designed for that load. Its more designed to be rigidly mounted and then a flexible coupler to a timing pulley mounted on a shaft supported with bearings on either side of it. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts supporting the gear or pulley as you have shown. Keep up the great work!

this little engine succeeded in turning the tathe ??? I am looking for a small powerful engine for my sherline

Hi Franco, its my understanding that the omron type encoders have to be driven 1:1 to the spindle pulley / gear. Can you verify if thats the case or is there some kind of software correction via centroid config? I have been working out a design for CNC conversion of a Taig micro lathe using the Acorn control DMM tech servo's and DYN 2 drivers. I really want to incorporate spindle control for rigid tapping and threading.

EmbraceTheSuck Hi. It must be 1:1.

Will you be using the acorn board with your pm25? And will you use an encoder as well?.
@FrancoCNC7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed Peterson. I will be using the Acorn with the PM25. I've built the control box around the Acorn board and I'll have that mill up and running soon. Eventually, I'll mount an encoder on the PM25 - that's low on my priority list as the PM25 had a digital display for RPM that I can use for now. I'm going to mount the encoder on the top of the motor - there's a short shaft sticking out there to drive a cooling fan.
@j1g20047 жыл бұрын
Franco , I was wondering how you would mount the encoder. Ordered my Acorn board a couple of days ago for my PM25. Hope to see more videos on yours.

Hi Ed. I have an idea on what I think may be an easy way to mount the encoder to the PM25MV. Eventually, I'll have some free time and I'll work on that.

Franco looking forward to what you come up with.

Super, Franco.

Thanks. At first, I wasn't sure how to mount encoders on these small lathes. Fortunately, it's all working out just fine.

Levisgil47 Levisgil47 il y a 1 minute (modifié) Hi, Great video! I'm new to this and I got a question. Do you think that using a brushless motor instead of a DC/ac motor for the chuck spindle is useful to develop a CNC machine?
@AnwarAlfaqeehAlhusseini7 жыл бұрын
where you wiring the encoder in the drive moter or cnc controller or something els ?
@FrancoCNC7 жыл бұрын
Hi. It plugs into the Centroid Acorn board.

you would think that an o ring would be able to slip and mess up the acuracy during a job , think a toothed belt might be a better idea , the gear actually looks eazier than going the belt way , it looks factory stock
@FrancoCNC7 жыл бұрын
Hi. There's not much torque on the encoder and I'm told that the o-ring belt thing works OK. That being said, a timing belt would be better. Fortunately, the gear thing has been working out pretty well for me. I'll probably use that setup for a while. Thanks.

i dont get it why change the encoder for a new one ?
@FrancoCNC7 жыл бұрын
Hi. Most people aren't going to use an expensive Tamagawa encoder on their mini-lathe. They will probably go with the $30 OMRON from eBay. I wanted to make the video and share the models to make it easier for everybody to get real-time encoder feedback on their mini-lathe conversions.
@koplandavid7 жыл бұрын
Franco aha didn't think ist so much difference. Omron is quite reputable too
@martyscncgarage52757 жыл бұрын
He's just testing a new encoder
@ScotY8087 жыл бұрын
I think it’s important to mention that it is an Omron clone. It does seem to work just fine though and the price is very affordable. Nice video, Franco...keep up the good work!
@FrancoCNC7 жыл бұрын
Thanks ScotY808. You make a good point - martyscncgarage confirmed that these are OMRON copies made by some firm in China. I buy my fake OMRON encoders from eBay seller 832901shu and so far, they have worked just fine.
@123hurst35 жыл бұрын
Would not the gear coupling to the encoder be more accurate due to belt ("0" ring) slippage?
@FrancoCNC5 жыл бұрын
The gear worked fine for me - but there is a little bit of error due to the clearance in the gear mesh. Very minor.
