Georgia Tech’s online Master of Science in Computer Science (OMSCS) program invites you to participate in our OMSCS Digital Career Seminar Series!
This series is designed to provide insight and support for current OMSCS students as you seek to advance your career. These digital seminars are hosted on the Shindig platform and will provide opportunities for interactive conversation with the guest speaker.
September's speaker was Bobbie Eicher (pictured, far left), Georgia Tech College of Computing Ph.D. candidate and OMSCS alumna. Bobbie currently works on the IBM “Jill” Watson artificial intelligence teaching assistant (TA) project with Prof. Ashok Goel (a project that was recently featured in The New York Times).

I just found this interesting fact that this girl is no longer on her research group website. Did she quit the program?

I know most students would already know this, but for most students who are aspiring for a doctoral program, I would not recommend an online program at the masters level. The PhD students that do well are often those with broad and deep experiences doing research. Many start out right in their undergraduate level, and certainly most of them do research in a lab at the masters level. Getting your feet wet and knowing how the research world works is hugely helpful. Publications would only be icing on the cake when applying to competitive PhD programs. Which is not to say that students who start late can't do well. That depends on so many other factors. But the ones that start early definitely have a leg up.
