well it depends on the map and the bus I believe. . for instance the new flyers in chicaco require you to log into the destination sign and that will activate the announcements when you put your cooresponding run number and line number in

well this route in real life is not an express bus route, And it have a new flyer c40lf in real life, but this is not a c40lf. express routes in nyc use mci units or prevost units stuff like that, not new flyers and other transit style buses

you have to use the roads that it has, and typically you would want to stay on route for the best experience but you can dead head and explore as well
