Photographers are positioned as intermediaries between commercial partners and their audience, and many young talents are asked to collaborate with these commercial partners because they have a certain kind of cache: a particular aesthetic, unique access to or understanding of particular communities, cultures or environments, perhaps their own established audience, and so on.
This second conversation of On Assignment - Navigating the Media Inustry engages with a selection of photographers who are at different stages in their careers. They consider these ethical dilemmas in relation to the role of the photographer on assignment today, as well as the responsibilities of the individual when working on commissions.
Moderation by Aaron Schuman (photographer, writer, teacher)
Guest speakers include:
Myriam Boulos (photographer, Lebanon)
Bieke Depoorter (photographer, Belgium)
Rahim Fortune (photographer, United States)
