Christianity can be understood to endorse a spectacularly cruel and senseless outcome of how certain people are judged. All one has to assume is that Hitler, a Catholic by birth, understood the gravity of his sins and confessed them to Jesus before committing suicide. According to Christian doctrine, he was awarded entry into heaven with this simple act. On the other hand, the 6,000,000 Jews that he condemned to death, and who by default failed to accept Christ, were sent to Hell. The image of Anne Frank writhing in pain while Adolf enjoys a latte presents a stark visual that there is something seriously wrong with Christian doctrine. Similarly, Ted Bundy, a convicted murderer of over 30 young women, confessed his sins before his execution and, according to Christian doctrine, was sent directly to heaven. On the other hand, Andrew Carnegie, an atheist and philanthropist who donated $350 million ($76 billion in current dollars) to charities, foundations, and universities, was sent to Hell. It is hard to imagine anything more unjust or immoral, but this absurdity is precisely in accord with conventional Christianity.

I have heard several of Swami Sarvapriyananda's lectures, and I was hugely and pleasantly surprised to note that he has enrolled as a student at Harvard. I am so humbled by his openness to learning ! Shwetaji is so wonderful. Her description of Sant Tukharam and the varthari tradition was so amazing. What an inspirational young monk she is! I am surely going to make my daughters watch her segment. I also want to express my admiration for Aksharji. It takes a lot of courage to go from a town in Gujarat to the Harvard Divinity School. Quoting Hindu doctrine "Ahinsha parmo dharma" while worshiping Krishna, a mass murderer personally assisted the Pandavas to the mass killing of the 100Kauravas to resolve a family feud, over an inheritance. Cruel Ram, a double murderer, in Rage and revenge killed Ravana and Khubhakaran, for Sita haran and asked Sita, mother of his two sons to perform Agni pariksha to prove her sexual fidelity as if sexual fidelity can be verified through Agni pariksha Totally Stupid. Shiva another murderer in a jealous rage beheaded his son then claimed to restore it by covering it with the head of a slaughtered elephant to gift the MURDA to worship to remove life obstacles. As a millennial South Asian American, I want to commend Harvard Divinity School and this program's sponsors for bringing forward the best and choicest representation of Hinduism to diversify and clarify today's muddled religious dialogue, both within and without the classroom, especially pertaining to Eastern religions as filtered through the West. The concept raised of "Scholar Practitioners" is so key in this period of exasperated religious ignorance spawning divisions domestic and abroad. I am certain that Swami Sarvapriyananda is among the most inarguably soundly reasoned, spiritually progressive, and profoundly insightful spiritual leaders of our time. 1000/10, highly recommend his Advaita Vedanta lectures to understand the true and underrepresented essence of not only Hinduism but human spirituality, universality of all religions, understanding of a greater reality, and a practical means to pursue spiritual ideals.

It's amazing that HDS and KZbin/Internet has made possible people across this planet to gain wisdom and knowledge through these great Monastics. I'm following Swami Sarvapriyananda ji for quite a while now and was sad to know that his weekly Q/A sessions at NY can't happen because he's taking a year long course at Harvard, but happily surprised to view this session. My parents are from Maharashtra and i have read and heard about Sant Tukaram Maharaj n his teachings. It was so awe-inspiring to hear that and about the varkari sampradai from Br. Shweta Chaintanya ji. vithal vithal. And lastly Akshar ji from BAPS was just awesome. It's 1 thing to study scriptures and be on spiritual path , but coming to Harvard, studying there, picking up English and then expressing yourself in front of such August company is at different level altogether. High regards to young Monk Akshar ji. And he has a great sense of humor, just as subtle as Swami Sarvapriyananda ji. Jai Swami Narayan.

It's so wonderful to see Hindu philosophy and monastic traditions getting mainstream attention. Hopefully the caste, cows&multiple gods stereotype goes away soon! Thank you so much Nagral Fund! Out of that multiple gods you are also one if you have really understood what you are. You are multiple as waves in an ocean. But as ocean it is one. Hindu philosophy recognizes both creator and creation as divine. Cow's milk is used after mother's milk when we grow up. Just imagine the magnanimity of a religion which gives an animal the highest respect as a mother. In fact every creation is divine....not just the cow. You can not love the creator when you downgrade the creation. Will your mother accept my respect (how ever great it might be) when i have hatred for you? Sure she will not. That is what Advaitha is all about. You can not simply wish away the duality and multiplicity as far as it exists. Love for GOD or Bhakti plays a wonderful role to bridge the gap. It is Advaitha and duality at the same time. That is the wonder.

Silver bullet; Satyemeva Jayete. It is a claim that Krishna, a chore, pervert, and a mass murderer of the 100 Kauravas, verbal discourse to Arjuna in the midst of Mahabharata ydh could be reproduced in the 15th century reliably in printed Gita without any manuscript after many centuries and generation are ASATYA and ABSURD. Writings in Gita are based on legends. NOt on facts and truth. Think with an open and critical mindset.
@wokeymcwokeface19745 жыл бұрын
Prosanto Mukerji what kind of non-sense are you spewing? Krishna did not kill them. Krishna reminded Arjuna about his duty to uphold good over evil. And the fact that Mahabharatha depicts the trepidation of Arjuna before resorting to violence reflects the beauty of ancient Indian culture. You don’t find such discourse in other ancient texts. Mahabharata, like Vedas and other Indian knowledge systems, was orally transmitted for 1000s of years. We don’t know exactly but it’s at least 3500 years old. Perhaps a lot older. While we appreciate the deeper philosophy in Upanishads, Gita and Advaita, why would you dismiss Mahabharata? After all Gita was part of Mahabharata
@wokeymcwokeface19745 жыл бұрын
Prosanto Mukerji It is after analyzing critically through an open mind that we realize Mahabharata and in particular Gita have a great message that’s relevant today, after more than 3,500 years. You’re no smarter than all the people who lived in those years and participated in the transmission of such knowledge.

Questions asked by eminent audience reflect real worth of the questioner. Hats off to questioners and speakers for making this event so resourceful and memorable learning tool for us. Thanks so much.

Wow.. This is a great initiative by Harvard for world religion as the saying in Sanatan Vedic Dharm goes "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam". Just a suggestion for the team out there.. It would be great if you could invite Raseshwari Devi Ji or Swami Yugal Sharan Ji to represent the Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj - the 5th original Jagadguru (Spiritual master of the world)... This would 1000% be a once in a lifetime experience for the whole Harvard community.. Cheers

Monasticism was not common during the Vedic ages. Almost, all Hindu Rishis were married and created great scriptures. Monasticism was started by Jains and Buddhists, which the latter Hindus adopted. Hindus should discard the unnatural monastic mathas and missions and go back to Vedic roots of Guru Kulas, where married rishis and gurus taught. Four Hindu Purushaarthas are Dharma, Artha, Kaama and Moksha. Monks have distorted the Hindu philosophy by emphasising only Moksha and denigrating the other three important Purishaarthas. This creates an unnecessary guilty feeling among people, who listen to monks. Hindu philosophy is not based on guilt but life affirmative philosophy. 🙏🏽🕉️🙏🏽

Swamiji is always wise and fund and awesome, but I am really amazed by Shweta and Akshar, wish we could replace all the old crooked and violent bigots from the religions by these young open-minded tolerant ones.

Wanted to just comment on gender equality issue that keeps coming up all the time. I was at world peace conference in Munich in 2011. There was a special pannel to discuss this topic about women being not allowed to be in authority positions in religions across the world. And there were Christian nuns and lady journalist who was a reporter for a long time to Vatican and there were several other ladies of eminent position. Amongst the panel was Jaishreedidi from Swadhyay parivar in India. It was a very heated debate and most of the ladies were almost fighting over the matter. But Jaishree didi made a very important point which stuck to me and I am sharing here. She said that what are we trying to equate ladies to? When we say we are equal to men, we are already accepting that they are better/superior and we are somehow suppose to catch up with them? Why is it so difficult for us to acknowledge that we are just different and there is no need to be equal to someone else? In India, this is a very accepted fact. Feminine has been worshipped in India and there is no real need for women to compete with men. They are strong and beautiful and unique in their own right. We need to stop putting men as a point of reference. The way Swami Vivekananda said, ask the women what she really wants rather than just trying to impose this idea of so called equality where men are already unquestioningly accepted as being superior. 🙏🙏
