@CLYachts I would very interested to see this kind of innovative design, with the negative pitch windshields, with enclosed fly, on an under 22m boat/yacht. preferably a wide beam and low draft capable of easily handling the great loop in comfort besides open ocean exploration. however that is just my boat design dream.

A massive TV on a complex and bulky lifting / swinging dolly that is only visible to three people on bar stools outside the air-conditioned upper sky lounge, and only if the person tending that bar is completely see-through. Meanwhile, the only helm position on board is rendered unusable by any crew either because of intrusion on the privacy of guests watching that TV, or due to the noise of the TV making communication difficult amongst the crew. Not to mention loss of night vision while on watch. Or crew access to the helm is only possible by walking past that TV either from the deck or below. And the rest of the upper sky lounge is completely empty ! There are some interesting aspects to this boat, but that upper sky lounge is... words fail me.

100% agree, should have had traditional outside dinning on the aft deck 8:20 and for the sky lounge 9:18 extend it all the way back all covered and in AC up to about 6 feet to allow room for the outdoor grill. The pilot house should be closed off from the sky lounge with only a passthrough door.

Very nice yacht although imho it would be better moving the helm forward, losing the 'Portugese Terrace' and so having room for a proper sky lounge.

The layout is intriguing but I'm not a fan of how it's outfitted, a lot of design oversights. The angles of the toilets are unnecessarily unbalanced, and the sky deck doesn't look like it does anything well, the helm is cramped by the lounge which is hindered by the TV which is blocked by the bar which is an obstruction to the stairs, it's all a bit weird. But certainly unique and loads of potential. And for $9.5m they have to do a bit better than running LED strips.

Interesting to see how a slick online presence has built such a reputation amongst armchair experts for a brand that has only built a handful of boats in its very short life (founded in 2007, but only started to build its first boat in its own Turkish yard in 2017 - all previous launches were from sub-contractor yards in China). I am not knocking the brand (it looks great, but that is the point - it LOOKS great), but with so few boats afloat, it is not easy to justify the glowing praise by so many fan-bois.

@@maxnex7676 There are a lot more than two reasons I would also buy a Berings over this - I was just commenting on the fan-bois who always bring up Berings on comments pages, even when the boats are in totally different categories and are not direct competitors. Someone genuinely in the market for a Berings would not even be aware this Cheoy Lee exists as an option, but the fan-bois show their inexperience by comparing everything to their online favourite. It's like comparing a Ford Explorer to a Mazda Miata - yes, they are both cars, but nobody goes into a showroom and buys one after going in looking for the other. The Berings feels more 'solid' than this Cheoy Lee because it is. It's a heavy steel displacement hull designed for long range cruising. This Cheoy Lee is a light-weight foam-cored GRP semi-planing hull designed for... whatever. The boats could not be more different and anyone who thinks they merit direct comparison is... whatever.

i sort of agree. neither a bad tour or a bad boat, but there seems to be a little something missing to tie it all together so that it just does not quite work. i think it is the interior design elements but i cannot quite put my finger on it. i have felt this way about several CL yachts and the other that comes to mind that just cant seem to make it all fit smoothly is gulf craft.

@@ironichumorist For example: from the helm station you can't see the bow, and you don't have an easy access to the exterieur either. Piloting at night time require a certain level of darkness in the pilot house for a good night vision and it seems difficult to do it so. Theres is a lack of practicality just for the sake to make it shiny. It's a boat for anchor not for travel!!!!

There is a camera mounted in the bow at eye level to the master cabin. Can be projected onto the large TV in the suite to act like a window looking in obstructed forward. Also used by the helmsman for an unobstructed view forward. Also duel flir for duel range views. I spoke to the yachts captain about the single helm and no docking stations. He said the yacht controllers are very effective and can be used from anywhere onboard. The visibility is a lot better from the helm than the video can show. There are also a plethora of CCTV cameras that provide excellent coverage from all views from the helm. The yacht is also equipped with augmented view which identifies potential obstacles. Very techy but effective. Most new yachts at this level have a huge reliance on technology and yachts of this size are more piloted than driven these days.

@@brunomeral7885 the other thing that jumps out a me about this vessel at first glance is that there does not seem to be the value i would expect for a boat manufactured in mainland china. part of the sell is that labor costs (among many other factors) are supposed to make such a yacht a better bargain by comparison. take, for example, some of the fine yachts currently made un turkey where you can currently get a very good deal

Totally agree. Even the manufacturer's website won't actually state the range. I saw on another posting that she has a 553 nm range at 22 knots which is not bad in and of itself. However, in my humble estimation, you would have to triple that range by dropping the speed to 6-10 knots to label this yacht an explorer and I have my doubts that she would perform that well with 2000 hp engines. I guess some people's version of exploring differs from other interpretations.

Well put. I certainly would not consider this an explorer yacht in the same segment as say an Outer Reef, Fleming or Nordhaven. However those do not offer this kind interior volume, natural light or inside out open living. The extensive use or carbon fiber in the glass house above decks is quite unique. The mullions are in fact carbon fibre square frames so the superstructure is much like the frame of an aircraft fuselage, as a yacht for the Caribbean or Med there is nothing at this size that compares overall except perhaps a Princess X95. A yacht that caused a lot of controversy with its almost cruise ship profile, that yacht however is incredible once onboard.

@@thebritishboatguy3130 A 28-metre foam-cored GRP hull that manages a claimed 25 knots is the antithesis of an Explorer Yacht. The 'fish' waterline plan (max beam carried forward of midships) was proven both empirically and by experience to be hydrodynamically inefficient for displacement hulls decades ago. There is a reason it has NEVER been used since (except, perhaps, for extremely specialist craft) - it doesn't work. Employing it on this boat may be advantageous for its semi-planing characteristics, but after paying the fuel bill for a few early 25 knot runs, this boat will never exceed hull speed (about 12 knots ?) once the euphoria of new boat ownership is over, but the excessive fuel consumption will continue...
