I was with a Vigi squadron out of Key West. Heavy 6. Deployed on the Kitty Hawk for WestPac 75. Beautiful bird but high maintenance!

@@charlesbukowski9836 Well the Phantom had to advantage in speed and raw power. Better radar for earlier detection, while being very smokey is always bad as it can be seen for miles. The F8 had a gun...a huge advantage. It may come down to experience, skill and training...enter "Top Gun" to teach pilots to get every inch an airplane has to give. Good debate question. BTW...I'm a Phantom lover!
