I discovered you via your Max Headroom video, which is an absolute 10/10 masterwork. Watched all the rest of your stuff, subscribed. Imagine my disappointment when I realized that your most recent video was "1 year ago". Now, imagine my surprise and delight to see this. It's a good day.

2 days ago for me and completely out-of-the-blue unlike anything else that I ever see in my KZbin feed. And then you go and make a video about Firefly and its a wonderfully written and presented video aaand 2 more are coming. It's is the best gift of the year.

Jayne is what the crew of a pirate ship is supposed to be. These are the bad guys and Jayne is there to remind us (the viewers) that most of the time, what Mal and everyone on Firefly does, is at best morally ambiguous. The are walking a tightrope of morality and Jayne highlights that. As the season progresses and the siblings force the crew towards the light side, Jayne becomes less tolerable until the moment when he's almost thrown overbo---- out the airlock. At which point he is only saved by realigning (even slightly) towards good. When Jayne choses in full knowledge to do the right thing (in Serenity), you know exactly how important it is because even Jayne is behind it. And he's a space pirate! (Btw, amazing analysis. So much fun to watch. My fictional diagram was the Mistborn trilogy by Sanderson.)

Like others, also coming here after the Max Headroom video, which was also fantastic. Firefly certainly holds a special place for me, even though my first experience was through Serenity, and I was very confused for a hot minute after starting Firefly. This is A+ level stuff, it feels like professional level analysis and criticism, and still very entertaining. A refreshing respite after hours of Minecraft, Horror games, and TikTok react videos (that still hold their own place as good entertainment).

I wish I could have been this articulate when people asked "What's a Firefly?", almost 20 years ago. The exposition explanation made me think of the Leonardo DiCaprio 'Pointing Rick Dalton' meme.

"You probably think this is easy, just have a bunch of characters talk to each other" I HAVEN'T THOUGHT THAT FOR A SINGLE SECOND WATCHING THIS. I've instead been attempting to *not* give up writing entirely because jesus christ you just laid out what I'm struggling with in my own writing and served it up on a goddamned platter and now I've got to DEAL WITH IT SOMEHOW. Excellent video, 10/10, I'll just go ahead and add a rewatch of Firefly to my list of media to consume while trying to get my shit together.
@heathb43192 жыл бұрын
Just think back at why you got into writing... If the reason is still there and your heart is still in it...you got this. If not...well you now have knowledge and experience for your next endeavor in life. Either way...you got this. Good luck to you.

Wow, awesome write up, or how ever you call it as a video. After rewatching the show many many times I think my favourite character is Jayne. His arc is incredible. I care so much about the characters now, that when I watch the show I tear up. I didn't have that the first few rewatches. The relationships are sooooo freaking good. Thanks for making this video!
@feidry2 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with your disagreement on Jayne. He's actually a great character. Just don't turn your back on him cuz it'll likely have holes punched in it. I'd say my favorite character is the Shepard. He's just so interesting and mysterious, the depth of his character is immense. Space Feather has done an excellent job of cutting to the meat of what makes Firefly great, the characters and the relationships between them.

Amazing! This ticked all the boxes of what I’m looking for in doc, and made me realize there are more boxes! Im glad you didn’t squeeze everything into one video as you have so many great insights to share. I really appreciate your sense of humor and tone and really like the non linear (non-sequitur filled) but super logical presentation. 10/10 ( I also pumped on the Max Headroom episode)

"we dug coal together" I personally didn't like Justified as much as I did Firefly, but that still was one of a few series I watched to the last episode and have no regrets over it. Some characters are amazingly fleshed out. ...Might be also about the beautiful accent for me, though 😄

Super good video, but was definitely saddened when with the announcement that the long tangents about the Firefly rule 34 artwork would not be making the cut from the patron exclusive version to the mainstream version.

I lost it at He Was A Punk She Did Ballet. And you are absolutely right, each character here has unique way of interacting with each other character. Star Trek TNG couldn't pull that off in 7 seasons! And yahoo Adam Baldwin! It takes a genius to play an idiot.
