In this guide I’ll take you through how I overcame that roadblock and got myself to the point where I can easily take apart just about any settlement and succeed in Odysseys first person shooter scenarios in Elite Dangerous Odyssey.

I noticed you didn't gain notoriety as I did on my first kill, I saw further in the comments that someone found settlements governed by anarchy factions. Did I miss something in the video? Or do you just gain the notoriety and live it down?

My preferred method of choosing a settlement to raid is to look for ones owned by anarchy minor factions. This is because killing the people in them doesn't incur a bounty. As for stealthily cloning security profiles, one tip I have is that the profile analyzer works through windows.

I cannot recommend Stealthboys videos enough. A couple of things to note, if you are close enough to the npc you can hear when they drop their shields, some even call out "resuming patrol" or something like that which can give you a clue. It is worth binding the "drop your security status" to a handy key, if you get a surprise scan from a guard you have a couple of seconds to dump it and play innocent. Another useful bit of info is security levels are only required to pass through a door NOT to be in the area. If you are inside a restricted area your security level is irrelevant, you will either get the warning or attacked. If you are not in a restricted area the guards only care that you do not have a weapon drawn ( the energy tool discharge mode and scanner clone mode count as weapons), have stolen goods or are not wanted they do not care how you got through the doors. If the alarms are sounded sentry skimmers become hostile and can do a lot of damage to you quickly, if the alarms are disabled or you can sneak around they can be ignored.

So far I've been looking for systems in the Infrastructure Failure state and taking power-on missions. No guards, and free access to the whole place. Of course, this limits what settlements you get, and thus what items you get...I have a long way to go engineering my stuff.

That's pretty much the same method that I use! Alarms are the absolute top priority, after which the settlement is a cakewalk. I'm still more of a fan of the scarab for its speed and ease of parking on rooftops, but I agree that having more than 1 is essential. My go-to weapon of choice is a silenced+headshot P-15. At grade 5, it'll take just about any unshielded target out in one shot and is very fast on the draw. Having an Aphelion on hand is good for when shields need to go down. A tip that I would add would be to park your ship and SRV in places that have cover or aren't easily seen, by both the settlement defenses and staff, and definitely put 4 pips to SYS before getting out.

For missions to loot settlements, I prefer to operate from the Scarab SRV until all the outside NPCs are taken care of. Essentially sit in a place with a good field of fire and few obstacles around it, like the landing pad. Start shooting the twin plasma's and the NPCs will run towards the noise and present themselves as targets. If it gets too hot, retire and then return. Then it is time for dismounted action to clear the buildings. Preferred wapon, Karma C-44 as the remaining NPCs should all be unshielded. Much quicker using the SRV and less risky.

Thanks for another nice guide. The only thing that irritates me is that we decide on a supposedly sniper rifle, but it only has a 100m range and quite slow bullets - the complete opposite of a sniper rifle, which should have a much longer range and high bullet speed.

Nice to see videos about someone playing the game! Every other KZbin channel seems to be about the dramatic existential crisis caused by development news or the speculative reason behind there being no news (complete with steam stats to prove it) I have no time to grind for suit upgrades, but I do find settlement raids fun with the level 3 stuff I've picked up from pioneer vendors.

Thanks. I do understand the existential crisis stuff tbh. Fdev are pretty terrible at selling themselves and inspiring confidence in their game. Elite requires a degree of commitment from the player to get the most out of it and the existential anxiety is born ultimately out of a desire to believe that the game has a future I think.

Its not really necessary to max out the on-foot engineering. Upgraded stuff bought from Pioneer is plenty good enough for most things. Of course, grab the mats as you go and you'll find that you'll be able to bolt on some engineering from time to time without necessarily having to push for it at all. Don't ignore the data mats though! I foolishly did for the first month and found myself fully loaded with assets and goods, but very short on the data mats needed for any engineering.

I used a different strategy which I found to be quite a lot of fun. I was in a system with a lot of mining serttlements and I found I could clone an ID through the window of the power centre which also houses the alarms console. Once I had clearance I would just sneak into the building, use the charge overload for silent kills to allow access to the alarms console without raising the alarms. Once the alarms are switched off I would work my way around killing NPCs as I encountered them, usually using the charge overload thingy. Every now and then I'd get into a firefight but as long as the alarms are off its not a huge problem. Unlock extra backpack space asap, this saves going to and from the SRV. Try to get a silenced weapon for indoors and outdoors, it can be the same weapon or one for each. having silent weapons saves battery power because you don't need to use charge overload to do silent kills. Crouch is basically a superpower, use it.

My favorite trick is to sneek into the alarms room first, then work through all the guards. Guards will almost always try to scan you if you walk up to them. If the alarms are down their shields will be too and that scan animation sequence traps them while I pull out and discharge my power tool into them. Rinse and repeat until all guards are sleepy.

Very good. And yes stealthboy was also my lightbulb moment for settlement raids. My only differences are that I tend to sneak around to disable alarms first then unleash havoc. I also prefer the laser pistol for shields and then switch to the AR for quick takedowns. Other than that I followed the same route to quickly gather enough for grade 5 and engineered suits one of each and engineering the weapons I prefer. I still prefer the settlement "special operations" and only occasionally play the CZs just as a benchmark to see if the framerates are acceptable yet. They aren't.

How differently you do things than I do. I always turn off the alarms first, using stealth methods. I really enjoy that part -- getting them off without ever being detected. After that I'm free to do whatever I need to do. Sometimes I continue with stealth throughout the mission/raid. I love to complete the mission without ever being detected, or having anyone fire at me. Of course I don't always perform perfectly, and if I do get noticed then I either go full-Rambo or (more likely) get out of LOS of any NPCs and let them settle back down before continuing. It's a lot of fun. I think the Odyssey missions are very well designed, with lots of different ways they can go, so it's not exactly the same every time. Plus, I use the shotgun mostly. :)

I love that you made this guide for everyone, burr, but I mean, I literally accidentally deployed into a high intensity combat zone with nothing but a flight suit and a tormentor and still win without even dying and re-equipping. I was lucky enough to find a G3 Executioner with noise suppression already installed so that probably saved me some time, it's at G5 now with indoor and outdoor noise suppression, magazine size and stowed reloading, its pretty much all I use for raiding bases and clearing conflict zones. But yeah StealthBoy's content was what made all the on-foot stuff a lot more manageable for me, can't recommend his channel enough, also Dr Hope Math has some very good EDO content.

I played PayDay 2 a few times with friends. I found what I call the "loud and proud" method quite fun. The "cheeky sneaky" method is boring. Also, being a murderhobo for hire...going to try this method as I stopped playing Odyssey right after the alpha ended. Edit (approx 12 hours since original comment). Completed my first settlement raid! Took about 6 failed attempts before I realized I wasn't running away from the scene of the crime (shooting the guards). I was also extremely lucky in that I logged in and went to streight to Pioneer Supplies...Grade 3 Dominator suit! Very, very fun way of getting engineering mats. What ISN'T mentioned is that your notoriety will go up. But...that's part of being a murderhobo in Elite:Dangerous. You also don't have to be on the roof of a building (although that halps in avoiding being seen). There are times when I was on the ground, shot the guard and ran away. Just make sure there's no radar contacts. If the settlement is on the dark side of the planet, look for moving flashlights. 100% of the time, a moving flashlight was a patrolling guard. The highest level guard I've seen in a low security system at a low security settlements is 1. Out of curiosity, I want to a high security system/low security settlement...yeah no. There was a guard that I think may have been and elite+ (5 chevrons and a star). No way was I taking on that settlement.

I've had Odyssey for a couple of months and haven't even tried FPS as it's not really my thing. However, I've come to the stage where I think I should give it a go, but I am completely clueless as to how to go about it. I think this video will be a big help, once I've worked out all the keybinds to put on my controller pad thingy (I've always been a HOTAS user so far but bought a control thing just for this purpose). So once I have landed I leave my ship, and my beloved VR, and pick up the pad. It makes a good separation between 'in space' and 'on foot' and hopefully will make remembering the keybinds easier. Even setting the buttons up seems to be a massive challenge, but once I've got that working I intend to follow your instructions as best I can. Idk if something has changed in the last nine months, but now if you kill someone you get a bounty. After taking out an entire settlement like this, you're going to have several points of notoriety, which can take hours of in-game time to wear off. So while this method is still pretty efficient, the notoriety is a huge pain in the ass.

If I'm just doing a settlement raid, I prefer to just light up the place with the Scarab (Scorpion can barely hit the broad side of a barn), back off a bit then let the NPC security team come to me, and pick them off one by one. Once the security team is down, scan them for their credentials, for easy access to the bldgs and the soft targets. I use a Maverick suit in this phase with an Intimidator shotgun as primary weapon, and a Tormentor as the side arm, since they are both plasma weapons and do damage to shields & health; upgrade with extra magazine capacity, and extended range when available. Upgrade the Maverick when possible with night vision, extra backpack capacity (for looting phase), and either reduced tool power usage and/or increased battery life. Final note: Always take the power regulator at the end of the raid as you need those for suit upgrades.

I got lucky and found lots of level 3 pre-engineered the problem is it is so random as to what you find. My best is a level3 Shot gun with increased range and a scope And a level 3 Dom suit with damage reduction and increased combat speed. I agree that the sniper rifle is the best primary weapon. The one thing I had to do before I could enjoy Odyssey combat was upgrade my old GTX 970, 16 FPS is not playable. Love the content thanks for all you do for the game

It does put on showcase the issue that seems to plague Elite: Dangerous's universe - the economy. I don't mean just credits, but rather how you're forced to either play in one or two ways, or be rendered ineffective at getting the desired resources. I have to loot settlements to feel like I'm making any progress in getting engineering materials. (Not to mention the drop in reputation and a fine from taking out people giving bounties even when you're never caught, even with the stun.)

Lol thanks, i didn,t know that you can do this! I thought that the Guards are raising the alarm when a corpse was found. ^^ well let's See how long this method works. I always looked that i sneaked inside the CMD or Alert Console Building and tasererd all inside with the tool and then alarm off and killed all with the shotgun ^^ (started with full grade 3 thingys and now i have a grade 5 Dominator...) Well with that i can tank every alerted settlemt, when a EMP is coming i learned when to microturn off and in shilelds and then its almost godmode when you not in open field. Use cover or bubblegreanades, the npcs are dumb and dont react to it and standing just outside^^ there is just no AI Algorythm for that.

but most of the planets are without any atmosphere , nothing for sound to travel and bounce around. how can they hear the shots? I can see sound traveling inside pressurized environment, but outside that's just stupid.

The in-universe explanation is that suits are equipped with sensors dedicated to picking up audio cues in the surrounding environment and generating the appropriate noise inside the person's suit.

I think the "cannot disembark from my ship docked on a player fleet carrier" bug is behaving backwards. 1. Land on a player fleet carrier. 2. The "Disembark" button is enabled. 3. Click the "Go to hangar" button. 4. Inside the hangar, the "Disembark" button is disabled. I can disembark when docked outside the hanger, but not inside the hangar. 5. If I board my ship from inside the hangar, the disembark button is disabled. 6. When I lift the ship to the outside, the disembark button remains disabled. Unable to disembark has frustrated me since update 11.0; now I see that it is merely backwards implementation of disembark mechanics on a player fleet carrier. Why is software development so difficult for this game?

It's not for selling! It's used to engineer and upgrade weapons and suits. You can sell at the bar in a starport or also trade it for different materials.

Are you using a sniper rifle? And if so is it better than grade 1? To avoid the bounty go to an anarchist system and make sure you are attacking an anarchist owned installation... They're not all owned by anarchy factions.

@@TheBuurPit sigh.... i tried to do a delivery mission on foot, had to meet some dude at a planet base, i didnt have any bounties or fines or anything illegal that im aware of, someone scanned me i got told not to resist so i stood still, they opened fire on me must of been drugs in the package i dont know im just the mail man... ended up killing me got sent to detention station then tried to pay my fine, couldnt pay there have to risk going to another station so went to Mcarther station few jumps away paid the fine now im burned out...

This game eats away at the desire to play because it doesn't give you anything at all. I died because I ran out of fuel and ended up in an area where there was nothing at all. I tried to do some supply task, but I didn't understand at all what I had to take and where. Desperately cumbersome menu systems. I got another mission that ended up on a planet that was number 5C. This particular planet was not there. I came back to the main ship, I looked for the 5 C on the map on the way home, now it was found for some reason. After that I landed some 20 minutes on the planet because of a really poorly designed landing system. After that I found an abandoned building that wasn't abandoned at all but was full of some soldiers. shooting them with just the pistol at home, I didn't get a single life, even though I wasted 100 stakes on one person. The other day I went to see if I could buy a new gun. The price was over 200k, I got 145k. I left the game and realized that I wasted 14 hours of my life on two tasks.

Make sure you choose a base owned by an anarchy faction. The installation I was using during this video is no longer owned by an anarchist faction as the political background simulation ebs and flows ownership as influences change. Use eddb.io to find an anarchist faction near you.

Sorry Commander, sadly I have to file this under "Not For Me Thanks". I didn't want FDev to give us a Third Rate Counterstrike in the first place and the past year has just proven that they have shot their own game firmly in the foot :(. In the course of a year, I have gone from an avid daily player of a mostly well-functioning, well supported (by third parties), merchant trading game, to someone who can't even bear to log in any more. Give me the option to stay with an *un-messed-with* Horizons and happiness might return.

I show up to a Low Sec settlement, and no matter how far away I park my ship, the second I step foot in the settlement I get trespassing fines and everything immediately knows where I am. Tired of the bullshit that Frontier is calling a game at this point... There's basically no way to actually move forward in their bullshit on foot content

While this video is very well made the truth is, the only winning move in Odyssey is to not play. It looks bad. It runs bad. It plays bad. There's a reason why it has at atrocious review store on Steam, why huge swathes of the dev team left in the wake of this DLC and why most of the community avoids it like the plague.

@@timmccue355 I put a few hundred hours into Elite and did enjoy it for a while but it does get incredibly grindy and repetitive because truth be told, there really isn't that much actual content in the game. But I do understand how a lot of people can love the simulation aspects. Odyssey however is a very different beast and almost everyone I've talked to hates it and the reviews reflect this. It's poorly designed and broken on many levels and even when it works as intended, it's just a subpar FPS mode at best. So if you enjoy the base game that's fine, but if you're calling the problems with Odyssey "trivial" then I think we have wildly different standards for what constitute "trivial" problems.

speak for yourself. im currently having a ton of fun playing odyssey. im playing with a ps5 controller and everything feels so good to control. ship flight and on foot combat are both super fun and the game looks amazing in my opinion. the biggest selling point of the game to me is the in depth button binding system allowing you to bind controls to multi inputs or hold inputs. such a complex game yet because of this i can fit every single bind on my controller. i highly recommend anyone on the fence to try it and see for yourself!
