The state record black bear in WI weighs over 800lbs. Now, I dont know how many 800 pounders are running around out there but I can guarantee you we have all kinds of 5 to 600lb bears. I lived up north for 40 years and have had a few spicy encounters, I do not walk in the woods without being armed as bears are now spread from north to south and from lake to river.

Up here in Northern Alberta, Canada we have some nice big Black bears but mostly medium sized blacks. However like you said a really big Black bear can be 6-800 lbs… so it makes me laugh when people say that an average adult black bear is 250 lbs.😂 A one year old juvenile would be closer to 250 lbs; they are heavier than most people realize.
@KennethRisner-fz9sc21 күн бұрын
@@T410ce I read where, and this was just a couple years ago, the PA state record black bear was 879 pounds. Very scary when a black bear can get heavier that an average lower 48 state grizzly. those 250 pounders they refer too are probably the ones passing through here in ohio

Don't sugar coat stories, just tell them as it was and the aftermath. Every story is different even though some common threads run between many. Every detail of these encounters is valuable to warn people of al the variables so they can broaden their awareness. The point of making them more public is to save lives.

@@elliebradley5192 the bear permits are given out to hunters because their population is deemed large enough to require a reduction in their numbers. Unless you’ve hunted it’s difficult for you to understand the passion involved. Humans ARE hunters and the drive still runs deep. The fur and meat would typically be put to good use also. Just because you don’t understand it you should also not condemn it.

@WilliamTuckwell-r8b I'm English and we don't carry guns here but it seems weird that bear numbers need to be depleted when they're in their own natural environment and not generally bothering anyone. I'm not condemning you but I love animals and it's sad to see them injured and shot.

@@elliebradley5192 I watch a couple of UK hunting shows. The spiritual home of the fox hunt and the Glorious 12th ( grouse season) have their beginnings in the UK. Firearm ownership is more difficult where you are but hunting and shooting are still very popular pastimes in the British isles.

?? They're sharing the story of what happened, what went wrong and what went right. And the consequences which was being killed and de-gutted by a bear for lunch. IF you don't tell or better yet, show people what deadly wounds a large animal can inflict in split seconds, then why even bother with any details from the encounter. Maybe I can go into detail of the fatal wounds a pack of coyotes inflicted on one of my favorite Border Collie pups. Or do you prefer to live in Fantasy Land?? I thought not enough detail was given. 23 stitches on one laceration is one thing, but spreading those 23 around your face looks a LOT worse. People will NEVER respect just how sharp those claws are unless they see real results. It certainly can happen and you don't even need to be hunting or hiking. People are oblivious to the horrific damage to the human body from a vehicle or m/c crash. Even a walk in a salvage yard looking at wrecks, many with blood in them, that gets their attention, it worked for me even while I had a learners permit.

Can it really be called hunting if you set up a trap literally in your yard and sit inside your own house waiting for the bear to walk into your sights? That's not real hunting. More like ambushing in the laziest possible way. I have other words to describe a father who would take a child so young into dense bush chasing after an injured bear. And that same father couldn't hit said bear even once from only a few feet away with a fully loaded pistol. This whole thing makes me feel like the two of them think they're playing a video game. Makes me wonder if that child had ever been in the forest doing actual hunting before or if he just 'thought' he was a good hunter because he could shoot from inside the house? That's probably the most dangerous thing to teach your kid. Not hiding safely inside your house to 'practice hunting' might have prevented Ryan from getting himself into such a situation and forcing his child to save his life. The poor kid will probably have nightmares for a very long time about missing the shot again. What a huge responsibility to put your ill-prepared kid into. Father of the year! What if that bear had jumped onto his kid? Wow. Neither one of them had any right to be hunting, or pretending to hunt, anything.
