I live a mile from the beaches of SC in a town called Surfside Beach...I live the beach, the sun, surf, and waves...I raised my boys here and we all surfed, boogie-boarded, body boarded, and just languished on the shore, until I was no longer cool...then they spent long summer days sitting on their surfboards just shooting the day away with their friends...ah, summer...spring is the burgeoning time of our lives, summer is the beautiful experiences of love, fun, and angst, fall the Middle Ages of our lives and winter the end of of our lives...I have entered the winter of my life...but man what a spring and summer I had! Thank u sir for one more glimpse of my summer...

So I ended up drinking three cups of coffee thinking I wasn't awake. Did my eyes deceive me? Did I see a paint brush? Naw, maybe one more cup then my eyes will focus. Oh great! Now I'm I'm wired up and still can't decide if what I saw is what I think I saw. 😁 The hangman tower in the background really gives a whole new meaning to, Members Only. ☺ Honestly I don't know what that is in the background. No, it is actually harder to do it that way with this style using thick paint. If you were using thinned down paint then yes, letting the background dry first would be the way to do it.

I just prefer to coat the canvas in a dark colour. If I were leaving parts exposed upon finishing then it would be more useful, however it gets covered up and my colour grading / mixing is done a glass palette so it's purely just a starting point - it all gets covered quickly.

what mediums do you use? your oils seem nice and fluid when mixing them, i try to mix mine as such but they don't seem to leave the palette surface very well

and do you always black out your canvases as such beforehand? so you can get a good grasp of the colours you are applying orrr? want to know as i'm wanting to get into oils, only have good experience with drawing materials: charcoal, pen, pencil etc. so far

I use the acrylic paint base to seal the canvas surface from the oil paint. It all gets covered quite quickly anyway so you could use a light grey as well, something neutral. The oils are just standard as from the tube, all brands are pretty similar, could be that your palette knife is brand new and just needs to be used a bit to get the paint off the palette surface cleanly.

Hi, It's just oil paint without any mediums - if it were acrylic paint then impasto medium would be handy later on.

Substitute the little girls for my sons and that would be a summer day back in the 1980’s...what fun we had...I was young they were just tots and the world so big and innocent...now all my children are in their mid 30’s and I’m now 65! Where did my life go...I miss it so.so please enjoy everyday of ur life is what I tell my children. Bc it will be gone in a flash and know one will remember me. I will not be in any history books, no coins, or stamps with my picture on them...nope, I won’t even be a side note in any book...just a statistic that I was born and I died. Oh well hell, I lived a life most ppl only dream of. I played professionally in front of thousands of ppl and lived the life of a rock 💫 star even though I was not one...so I have nothing to cry about...now do I?
